Gingrich Calls Obama’s Trayvon Martin Remarks ‘Disgraceful’
ABC ^ | 3-23-12 | Dover

President Obama’s remarks today about the killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin drew scowls from GOP presidential contender New Gingrich, who called them “disgraceful” and divisive.

“What the president said in a sense is disgraceful. It’s not a question of who that young man looked like,” Gingrich said on Sean Hannity’s radio show.

President Obama today offered a personal reflection on the tragic shooting the Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, saying the incident requires all Americans to “do some soul searching.”

“When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids,” Obama told reporters....

Gingrich said on the radio show: ”Any young American of any ethnic background should be safe period. We should all be horrified no matter what the ethnic background. Is the president suggesting that if it had been a white who had been shot that would be ok because it didn’t look like him?”

He went added that it’s “just nonsense dividing this country up. It is a tragedy this young man was shot. It would have been a tragedy if he had been Puerto Rican or Cuban or if he had been white or if he had been Asian American of if he’d been a Native American. At some point we ought to talk about being Americans. When things go wrong to an American. It is sad for all Americans.”

Gingrich, a former speaker of the House of Representatives, said: “Trying to turn it into a racial issue is fundamentally wrong. I really find it appalling.”

....“I think all of us have to do some soul searching to figure out how does something like this happen,” Obama said. ...But my main message is to the parents of Trayvon Martin: If I had a son he’d look like Trayvon

He’s right. Excellent statement from Newt.

I believe that Newt's contribution has still to come. He may not be President, but he certainly will be included in the task of figuring out how to fix it.

After this disgraceful election, that has rewritten ALL of the past rules on how NOT to conduct an election, is finally over, we have the opportunity to rebuild a party that has lost all sight of it's original philosophy and agenda.

We can start an entirely new party, complete with a new name. (Tea Party perhaps) It may be led by Newt, Sarah Palin and several others with the vision to lead. I am certain that we have not heard the last from either Newt or Sarah.

Al Sharpton makes his living by playing the race card. Did he ever apologize to the Duke LaCrosse players or their coach for ruining their lives?
Sad what happened in Fla and I pray the truth comes out soon. The shooting was wrong and tragic..no matter what race the child was and Newt is right.

This incident fits so well with the infirmative-action, socialist president’s Chicago thug-style political strategy as it divides Americans (although in this instance incorrectly as “Black-White” rather than as “Black-Hispanic”), it allows him to rile up the racist criminal elements of his base, and it provides a forum for him to promote his fractional (and fictional) “blackness”.

Obama is about self promotion.

Consider, if Obama thought Zimmerman was truly guiltly of a racially motivated attack, then what Obama did was the worse possible tact toward justice. Likeminded people, Obama likeminded, will now be quickly removed from the jury pool as being bias by Obama’s influence. Obama would recognize this even if he only has a mail order law degree. But again, Obama could care less, this is about Obama’s self promotion.

Yes, and b) it is "community organizing" on a national scale, and finally c) it does not let a good tragedy go to waste (i.e. it can be harnessed for political reasons).

What we are watching is PURE Saul Alinksy, right before our eyes.

We are finding out more and more about this mass as time goes on. My concern is that even those who want to replace them do not in fact want to replace his policies. Like getting rid of the dog who leaves a strain on the rug but not replacing the rug, although the best cleansers do not obliterate it. As Ike left so many New Deal policies in place.

If you think Obama signing what amounts to a martial law EO and this case are not a coordinated event, you should sit back and suck a gun barrel.

Trust me! One of the very first things I thought! Second, was the possibility of rescinding the "Stand Your Ground" law. Like I said, the media, Bowbama and his minions, are fueling the fire!

This whole country has been behind this horrible murder but Al Sharpton has to stick his nose in because he knows the camera will be on him. He will act like he’s the savior and came to the rescue. We didn’t need him to tell us how bad that murder was, no matter what color the young man was.

It used to be Jesse Jackson when anything happened but now its Al Sharpton. I’ve seen him on MSNBC for a few seconds (that’s all I can take of him) and he’s the biggest racist in this country. He says horrible things about anyone who is on opposite sides of the political situation. He hates all Republicans and says anything, even if he has to make it up. I can’t like the man to save my life. In more descriptive words, I can’t stand him! He’s a big joke on MSNBC, just like the other jokers they have on that channel.

“The GOP ruling establishment, the current plutocracy and the socialist Dems constitute a statist oligarchy, wholly antithetical to the Founders America.”

That we agree on, and the fact that we don’t want Romney, but I will take anyone as a temporary stop on reversal of this trend. Anyone but Obama is the only tenable tack at this time.

yes, I re-listened to the tape and he did indeed call the dispatch (not just the clerk’s office). They said - as you also note, that they didn’t need him to do that, not DON’T FOLLOW - big difference!

*******

Robert Zimmerman said that his son, George Zimmerman, 28, then called a non-emergency number to report this stranger.
