Santorum Suggests Obama Preferable to "Etch-A-Sketch" Romney.

Rick Santorum's latest attempt to use a Mitt Romney aide's "Etch-A-Sketch" remark against the Republican front-runner instead gave his rival a chance to fire back on Thursday, after Santorum seemed to say he'd rather see President Obama reelected than send Romney to the White House.

Speaking at an event in Texas, Santorum again made the case that Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom's comments Wednesday on CNN about a "reset" of the campaign if Romney clinched the nomination showed the former Massachusetts governor's efforts to appeal to conservatives were insincere.

"You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," Santorum told a crowd in San Antonio, according to NBC News. "If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate of the future."

Rick’s just reading FR.

There many are posts throughout the forum with people saying they weren’t going to vote for Romney if he was the nominee or that we might as well keep Obama since Mitt and Barack were so much alike. There’s no difference between THOSE comments and what Rick state.

Wow!

It’s a good thing for Saintorum that he became a politician, he would have starved to death as a lawyer.

I wonder how long before Obama will put out an ad, using this to show Saintorum endorsing him.

If Romney looses to Obama, I hope you’re right.

But I’m not ready to sacrifice my country just to prove a point.

I’d rather get the best person we can get into the presidency. And then go election by election and get the best (read most Conservative) person in each office in Congress.

In my opinion you get the most Conservative person you can get, which at this moment, is Mitt Romney. My candidate was anyone but Mitt. But the simple truth is that’s a fantasy at this point.

Loosing to Obama just to be able to say, Hey Look! That’s a *Democrat* that’s destroying the Country, and not a *Republican* strikes me as kind of irresponsible. How about get the most Conservative president we can get?

Hint: Obama is *definitely* not a Conservative.

Then, get the most Conservative House, most Conservative Senate, most Conservative Dogcatcher, etc. The fact that the president is not Barry Goldwater does not mean you can’t get a Conservative Congress. It’s not an either / or.

Should I say the dread words: Third Party.

It doesn’t exist yet, but maybe it will. I wouldn’t vote for either Romney or Santorum, who are both big government, nanny state guys - the latter with an Evangelical twist and the former with crazy Mormon eyes.

Romney and Santorum are both career-driven liberals who have had to tack to the right and the Evangelical piety side in public for the purposes of the primary. And they’ll both renounce these things when it gets to the general election.

I wouldn’t vote for either one of them. Frankly, I’d rather vote for Ron Paul as a protest vote.

But maybe it’s time to acknowledge that the GOP is dead and go on to...a third party. And I honestly never thought I’d hear myself urging this.

Sorry folks, but that is just nuts.

Hillary Clinton would be better than Obama...Santorum is wrong.

But this is exactly what you newt supporters say every day here. That you’d rather Obama wins, you won’t vote for mitt.

That is a pretty offensive statement, and not true. I have not seen any Newt supporter say that, though I'm sure there could be some.

But since you included me, my position has always been, and I have posted it here - I know Santorum supporters can't be bothered with facts - but I have posted it here prior, and that is: some of us will have the honor of fighting against Obama with our preferred candidate, and some of us will have only the honor of fighting against Obama to save our country.

Please get your facts, representations, and slimy statements to minimally reflect reality.

That’s impossible, Santorum is, and I quote, from many a topic, “a stalking horse for Romney”.

Thanks true believer forever.

How typical. You point out obvious errors in logic to a party-line voter and they can only respond with insults or establishment talking points.

You know what? It was people like you, people who aren’t willing to think beyond the GOP lever, that pushed me to re-register as an Independent. No Democrat is worth voting for, but it’s wrong to go to the other extreme and assume that every Republican is automatically worth voting for.

That's what the GOP-E will become if they nominate Romney.

So your argument is to hold our noses and vote for another Liberal Elitist RINO as the alternative? I did that with Dole and McCain never again!!!!! Nothing and I mean Nothing will change with Romney just look at his tenure as Governor of Mass.
Well this Conservative and many others will just say no.
The country for the most part is lost and the Economic Debacle that is coming can happen on Obama’s watch rather than a Republican’s.
Between Entitlements along with the Debt and Deficit we are heading Lightspeed into a mountain so let Obama have all the credit.

Santorum’s finished.

Concur; Santorum is out of his league. It is an anomaly he is still in the race. Santorum does not seem presidential.

The statement is bogus. Hopefully we are all more loyal to our God than our country, but how is that a bad thing? Mormons are a very loyal bunch of people who believe in obeying the laws of the land. If a Mormon is convicted of a crime he may get kicked out of his church, certainly he won't be allowed to go in their Temple.

I don't have a problem with being loyal to God, except I'm afraid that Obama is being loyal to the Muslim god.

This same logic was used during dole, bush twice and McCain. Tired of est repubs taking my vote for granted every election cycle. Did bush help conservatism move forward or weaken our cause much like Romney will?

I’m not so sure

Okay, I'm a Newt all the way to Tampa supporter. But, to be fair to Santorum, all we have is this quote according to NBC News. This would be such a crazy thing for a candidate to say that I'll wait for a more reliable source.

I looked for a video, but it's a little early yet. But the romney camp did respond, so they took it for fact, and may have their own sources (though they've never been stuck on truth, I know):

"I am in this race to defeat Barack Obama and restore America's promise. I was disappointed to hear that Rick Santorum would rather have Barack Obama as president than a Republican. This election is more important than any one person. It is about the future of America. Any of the Republicans running would be better than President Obama and his record of failure."

It was an idiot thing for little Ricky to say, but it makes no difference really. If Romney is nominated, Obama will be elected.

If Santorum had strickly stuck to economic issues and left the social issues alone he just might have made it.

But true believer, I’m afraid that to the rock solid Santorum supporters, NOTHING he says will ever make a difference. I have never seen such loyalty, not even for Huckabee. In fact, if they were to read our criticism, they would see it as persecution of Santorum, and would be even more determined to vote for him.

For the life of me, I have no idea what to do about this.

And this is exactly why Newt should be the frontrunner right now, but for some reason many Republicans just refuse to vote for him. He would be a good President and MUCH MUCH better then Obama, he would crush Obama in any debate. Santorum seems like a good guy but saying stuff like this, considering he endorsed Romney in 2008, shocks me. ANYONE is better then Obama, ANYONE..now as much as I can’t stand Romney, even he is slightly better then Obama. If we have 4 more years of Obama we won’t have a country anymore. Obama will officially turn this great country into Greece. Its the GOP RINO’S fault for pushing Romney so badly instead of a true Conservative who would unite us all together
