NBC: Romney Wins Illinois Republican Party By Michael O'Brien, msnbc.com
Mitt Romney won the Illinois Republican primary with some ease on Tuesday evening, allowing him to likely add at his advantage over his rivals in the tally of delegates needed to secure the party's presidential nomination.
NBC News projected that Romney had won the contest, the lone presidential primary taking place on Tuesday, shortly after polls closed. The primary offered Republicans maybe their best chance yet of a genuine one-on-one battle between the former Massachusetts governor and Santorum, his chief competitor for the Republican nod.

JC is not about States. It is about the delegates those states have.
Okay lets assume Santorun wins all 11 states and gets ALL delegates. Which is impossible.
You would have it MT=26, SD=28, NE=35, TX=155, LA=46, AR=36, KY=45, WV=31, IN=46, WI=42, PA=72. That is 562 delegates add to that Santorum current delegates of 236. This will give Santorum 798. He will still need to find 346 additional delegates somewhere.
That prospect puts Øbama into orgasm.
I think Santorum has said he would take it to the convention. I think it might be too late to form an alliance. So many states that are left are liberal “Illinois” types. CNN (I know they stink most of the time) but they did a map and Romney has 3 ways to win this thing and they all take into consideration Newt staying in, Newt getting out, Santorum getting out, all three staying in and each time Romney gets 1140 before the convention. It was depressing.
In Nov they will be meaningless to us since Illinois won’t be going Republican anyway. Anyone really surprised that a far left state like IL went to Romney..the exit polls showed that “Conservatives” voted for Romney, nuff said
Romeny has been running for years now.
He has all the money in the world,lots of organization and does not suffer from all the problems that the other two candidates have as far as running a campaign goes.
It's hardly a surprise that the guy with all the money,the willingness to go negative forever,and do most of the right things won.
You could have replaced Romney with anyone of a dozen or so other pubbies and the result would have been the same. Now our choice is to keep whining or get behind the nominee in order to try and salvage what's left of the country. Not for us but for our kids.
This is a commanding win for Romney no matter how you look at it. It’s over. The fat lady is about to sing. Santorum could have stopped Romney either in MI (Romney’s home state where he won by a squeaker of 3%) or in OH (where Romney won by a hair of under 1%) if only Gingrich had done the honorable thing and withdrawn after Santorum’s stunning trifecta win. But cheered on by the “Go Newt” crowd, he chose to stubbornly stay and now here’s the result.
The only republican nominee to get 20+ states and fail to win, is Reagan, and he took it to the convention.
There is no sense in quitting now, especially not with Texas, and so many Santorum states still out there.
There is going to be alot of pressure for deep cuts in the military in coming years in spite of the fact that we are a nation at war. Romney in my opinion is likely to make massive cuts, because he will have the cover of making cuts no democrat can, he will have the dim and Rino’s in congress on his side.
Secondly if Romney is elected the oldest conservative justices (Scalia and Kennedy) are likely to retire. They would never retire if Obama was still in office. Romney will undoubtedly appoint much more liberal justices than either Scalia or Kennedy shifting the balance from conservative to liberal.
I don't buy the ABO strategy. Its real meaning is anybody but a conservative. Four or potentially eight years of a liberal Romney will inflict more damage on the conservative movement than four years of Obama ever could as O tends to unite conservatives and focus their attention on what is happening to the country. Romney is a disaster and I find it beyond belief that any conservative would vote for him under any circumstances.

With Romney, at least we have a chance at getting our country back; with Obama, our fate is sealed. Again, I'm preparing myself to deal with the potential “reality.” I hope I'm wrong. Maybe by some chance (miracle) Santorum may win.

Salvation is eternal. What does how you vote in a Primary have to do with your salvation.
That’s the thing about Mitt’s “scorched earth” campaign strategy. Gingrich & Santorum supporters have one thing in common - they’ve been burned too badly to ever even consider voting for Mitt.
A fears back, I use to think that Romney would be a lesser evil than John McCain. Then I saw the dirty tricks he and his Mittwits used against Fred Thompson. That really opened my eyes.
Many conservatives will stay home this time, or vote 3rd party or write in Sarah Palin’s name.

It’s Huckabee bullheadedly plowing ahead of Thompson by sheer belief in his own holiness all over again. The story always starts out the same: Conservatives get a credible alternative to the Establishment front-runner, and he starts getting attacked.
Then the SoCon who stayed under the radar (Huckabee then, Santorum now) becomes everyone’s plan B, because the guy who could have won (Thompson, Gingrich) was unloaded upon by the GOP-E money machine. Then the smug supporters of the upstart underdog all thump their chest and say “NO.....YOUR GUY SHOULD DROP OUT!!”
Then the vote is already split, the credible candidate becomes non-credible because of vote-splitting, and the upstart winds-up in second place because folks trying to beat the Establishment liberal switch to plan B because the smug voters of the only holy candidate make it loudly clear that they’re going to support the holy upstart candidate even if it means the Liberals win.
It JUST KEEPS HAPPENING.
In reality, what needed to happen was for Santorum to drop out early, when it became apparent that there was someone who could lead Romney in the polls for a long time, and when it was clear he had a friggin’ LITANY of ballot and delegate issues. Even if it was not Newt at the time (heck, replace Newt with Perry), Conservatives should have united around a single candidate with a full organization and little to no ballot and delegate issues, and there SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A PLAN B. Conservative should have been forced to STAY united, learn to DEFEND their candidate rather than defect because the rich, Establishment Liberal was able to smear the credible Conservative with overwhelming cash.
If there had been no Santorum, Newt would be leading right now. He would be leading because we would have been united against Romney from day one, and there would have been no defections based on the fact that - by simply running under the radar - someone else rises because they haven’t been unloaded on.
We CANNOT keep doing this. We CANNOT keep Santoruming and Huckabeeing ourselves based on some sick notion of the holiness of a politician. We cannot keep some broke one-percenter in the race because they were able to show well in Iowa after living there for two years and facing almost no attacks because of their low polling. We cannot keep rewarding these guys for throwing Hail Mary passes when we have a chance to defeat the Liberals. No more “shoestring” campaigns, no more one-percenters who surge in time to do well in Iowa, no more long-shot dreams based on the notion that some candidate is the mostest Christianest candidate of them all.
No more Huckabees, no more Santorums. No more long-shots who surge in Iowa. Rule them out before they ruin another Primary season. Santorum was never going to get 1144 delegates - it was NEVER going to happen. The fact that people bull-headedly refused to waver from him KILLED us - and then they turned around and taunted Newt and Perry voters for voting for Santorum in desperation, citing the vote count as if nobody knows what was actually happening.
No more Santorums, no more Huckabees. No more long shots, period.
Stop playing the blame game. You sound like Obama. Just as strong a case could be made against Santorum for not helping newt in florida, getting out, or at least repudiating romney.
We hear the same nonsense every presidential election, “anyone but the Democrat”, as we get do nothing RINO’s shoved down our throats who are just as bad. Time for a new direction.
