NBC: Romney Wins Illinois Republican Party By Michael O'Brien, msnbc.com

Mitt Romney won the Illinois Republican primary with some ease on Tuesday evening, allowing him to likely add at his advantage over his rivals in the tally of delegates needed to secure the party's presidential nomination.

NBC News projected that Romney had won the contest, the lone presidential primary taking place on Tuesday, shortly after polls closed. The primary offered Republicans maybe their best chance yet of a genuine one-on-one battle between the former Massachusetts governor and Santorum, his chief competitor for the Republican nod.

I had said that I wouldn't vote for Romney in the general election should he become the GOP nominee, but I'm not sure any more. I'm supremely disappointed that Newt didn't do better...he was my first choice; Santorum was my second choice.

I just don't think I have it in me to sit out this election and simply give the win to Obama by not voting. This is a decision everybody must make; I think I'm going to end up voting for Romney if he does indeed win the GOP primary. The only thing that might make this decision a little easier to swallow is if he picks a strong VP choice.

Agree: Anybody but Obama. The only question on the table now is who will be the VP nominee?

There’s 10+ Santorum states still to come.

This isn’t over tonight, either.

Eric Ericksson of Red States says on CNN, that Romney has now wrapped it.

If Romney is going to win the nomination, I want him to start winning decisively. Because I am not a RINO, my number one priority is replacing Obama with whoever wins the Republican nomination.

Had everyone gotten behind Santorum after Florida, we would see Santorum winning this thing, but now Romney will probably win it.

Had everyone gotten behind Newt in Florida, coming out of South Carolina, we would see Newt winning this thing. And that is someone who could take it to Obama big time. He's already living in Obama's head. tonight, they just responded to another Newt statement. Wish Santorum had a little humility and a realistic understanding of his limited capacities and abilities.

In every single race the talking point were that Romney would wrap up the race when he won - until he lost.

This race isn’t over because Romney won a totally Democratic state, Obama’s home state.

This idea not anyone but Rick Santorum cost us this election. Voters didn’t want Rick so they moved over to Mitt. Soc cons really messed this one up. Rick is so weak now, he cannot stop Romney.

“Why on earth is IL a must win for Santorum?”

Most of the remaining primary states are liberal, like California and the Northeast, states where a RINO like Myth should thrive.

I agree. Rush has been predicting that whomever the GOP candidate turns out to be, the GOP (and Independents who've turned from the temptations of the Dark Side) will unite to defeat the Marxist. I was certain that I wouldn't vote for Romney if he were to become the GOP nominee, but I'm changing my mind. I'm also beginning to agree with Palin and her thought of: Anybody but Obama (ABO).

Its not over but Mittens has just found the target's range.

It has been leaked that Newt has offered an Alliance with Santorum I doubt we will ever have proof positive. The Ball is now in Santorum corner he must join an Alliance with Newt Now before LA. They can settle Pres/Vice in Tampa or add someone else then.

We need Santorum’s SoCon and Newt's FiCon as one team. Without the other’s strength Mittens will continue to unleash the GOP-e Millions on Whomever threatens taking delegates.

IMO

Who know what would have happened. Sure I wish that Santorum would have endorsed Newt in Florida and have Newt endorse Santorum in Ohio, Michigan and Illinois, but it didn’t happen. I am now completely afraid that we ALL are going to be disappointed in the nomination. Quite frankly, it is a shame that what is going to get us back “as one” is having the worst nominee out of all of them.

Well, if you want to quit now, be my guest.

I count 11 states of those remaining that should break for Santorum.

MT, SD, NE, TX, LA, AR, KY, WV, IN, WI, and PA.

11+10+2 = 23 meaning he’d need another 2 elsewhere. OR is one.

This isn’t over by a longshot.

I remember posting on FR about this time in 2008 that a McCain yard sign would never cast its shadow on my front lawn. I wasn’t going to sit out in November, but I certainly wasn’t going to lift a finger for him or show my support in any way. That changed with one helluva fantastic VP pick. Being a big fan of Palin long before he chose her, I was doing cartwheels when he picked her. I was immediately trying to find where I could get McCain/Palin signs, buttons and bumper stickers. And I was donating that very night.

Who I wonder could be Romney’s Palin? He better start giving that some deep thought.

Krauthammer just said on BOR that it's going to be Rubio. Another possibility is Gov. Susanna Martinez of NM. Female, Hispanic.

Your right Santorum can still win. I am sending him money online tonight telling him not to give up. People around here sound like fox and msmbc. AND like Romney supporters. I’m not giving up.

Excuse me, but why should Newt exit? He cleared the field, leaving it all to Santorum. Santorum campaigned his heart out and just got his clock cleaned. Obviously, it’s time for Santorum to exit, and let Newt have a clear field in Louisiana.

We are in the situation that we are in because of attitudes like that. The Republican establishment thumbs their nose in our faces because they say "You don't have anywhere else to go." So they feel confident with putting forward increasingly more liberal candidates without fear of any conservative backlash.

Sure, Romney is more conservative than Obama in most ways, but Harry Truman and John Kennedy are more conservative than Romney. If we keep encouraging the liberal Republican establishment by voting for the establishment choice, then eventually our choice will be between two candidates even more liberal than Obama. At some point this acquiescing to the liberal Republican steamroller has to stop.

The greatest enemies of social conservatives are liberal Republicans. In Roe v. Wade, 7 of the 9 Supreme Court justices were appointed by Republican Presidents. In Lawrence v. Texas, 5 of the 9 justices were appointed by Republican Presidents.

It is scarcely mentioned in the mainstream media, but people with conservative religious beliefs are already being fined, fired, not allowed to graduate from college, and even jailed simply because of their faithfulness to those conservative religious beliefs. Perhaps those willing to always vote for the Republican establishment's choice will not face those problems, because they will probably not have the courage to stand firm for their beliefs. But a good many of us have more reason for concern.

Regardless of the odds, regardless of the outcome, some of us will continue to speak from the public square, from the corners of the crowd, from the recesses of society, from prison. Our voices will echo from the grave.

Voting for Romney is not the answer. It only postpones the inevitable.
