Conventional wisdom hold that black support of Barack Obama is due solely to the color of his skin. I question that. To be sure, he received 95% of the black vote, but 4 years earlier, John Kerry received 89% of the black vote. That 6% difference is magnified by a noticeable increase in the black vote. But President Obama also received a slightly higher percentage of the white vote.
Maybe black people overall have a different view of government from white people do.
Maybe black people believe in the central government more because of their experience in the South in the 1960s when the federal government ended 100 years of Jim Crow law.
There also is the identification of slavery with capitalism. Overall, white people would reject that notion. But I can see that if I were black and a descendant of slaves, I might connect the two.
Perception is nine-tenths of the law in politics.

Even if Obama got 100% of the “black vote”, they are only 13% of the population. He needs white votes and Latino votes desperately. His party neglects the black voters simply because it doesn’t have to spend any political capital to get what it already has..............

Sheesh, Surber You conveniently overlook the fact the Republican party was formed partially to end slavery, that Republicans fought a war costing us over 600,000 American lives to end slavery, Republicans set up Reconstruction in the South to assure civil rights for blacks post bellum, and Democrats created (or ignored the creation of) terrorist organizations to make life hell for blacks after the army pulled out of southern capitals in the 1870s.
More realistically, it seems most blacks have somehow been unable to move beyond a plantation mentality and still live on the Democrat plantation that “cares” for them cradle to grave.
These stupid singers and Hollywood people must be empty headed fools to want Obama re elected.

Party trumps race when blacks vote in general elections. Black Reps have found that out when running against white Dems. Obama has garnered even higher support from blacks, including turnout, because of his race.

Recall the Alvin Greene vote in South Carolina (already two years ago?). More than one open-minded, pure of heart black voter was quoted as saying he knew nothing about either candidate, so he simply voted for Alvin Greene because that name sounded more “black”.
So, I asked him, “ do you support abortion?” he said no.
I then asked, “do you support gun control.” he said no.
I asked, “do you know what habeas corpus is?” he said, well kinda.
I went on for a bit asking questions regarding conservatism. He answered just as a conservative might.
So then, why are you voting for a man who supports gun control, abortion and all the rest?
He looked at me with this deer in the headlights look. He had no clue. Based off his answers to my questions, it certainly wasn't O-bozos stand on the issues.
He verbally danced around and had a difficult time articulating the reason he'd vote for O-bozo. It was because, he was a negro.
