WASHINGTON (AP) -- Newt Gingrich says he has no doubts that the Republican presidential candidates who fall short of winning the nomination will unite behind the eventual nominee - despite the often tough rhetoric the contenders are throwing at each other during the campaign.

If Romney puts Santorum or Gingrich on the ticket he might get conservatives in. Even then, I doubt the Gingrich crowd will come in if it's Santorum. If he picks someone else, and gets endorsements from both, that won't fly. He'll fail worse than McCain.

Unfortunately, I sincerely do not believe Romney can win. Even if he did, he will not be a strong Commander in Chief. Mormons do not serve in the military and no one knows what Romney’s position is on Afghanistan.

Newt is the only one running who understands the military and our current situation. I heard him state that without a complete reversal in the attitude of the Afghan government, he would advocate bringing our soldiers home immediately. He said it was not worth the life of one more American to support a government that stood by and allowed our military to be murdered by Afghan soldiers.

I haven’t heard the other candidates even comment on this issue.

Sorry, nope...not this time. Won’t do it and won’t waste my time and money supporting it.

My fault 0bama gets another 4 years..ugh! No not my fault...the GOP-e’s fault.

We can have a dictator now or a dictator later, but in less than 4 years from today we will have one. I predict ...less than 4 years from today FR won’t be around. And yeah, yup, you betcha’ it will be the fault of those who would ‘settle’ and condone the ongoing halfheartedness of the Republican Party. To blindly follow the party, in this election cycle is to commit treason.

The GOP has no choice but to unite or face 4 more years of Obama. Even the Conservatives will hold their nose and vote for Mittens—Unless they have a choice in the form of a 3rd Party. I am sure the Democrat/Progressives will work hard to fund and support a 3rd Party movement and use the MSM to place that candidate in the debates. Ron Paul maybe? (I think not) or someone else (will not be Trump or Sarah P.) What Conservative will step up to get Obama Re-elected? Who ever the GOP selects will be the Anti-Obama Candidate. Still, a lots id going to happen before November.

Maybe uniting around a third party candidate, but principled conservatives will not be voting for Mitt Romney

Sprain your arm patting yourself on the back. High-five yourself in the mirror for all your uncompromising high-mindedness.

Just don't try to convince me voting third party is anything other than re-electing a president hell-bent on the total destruction of conservatism.

Fool yourself..but it won't work on me.

Either there are alot of people here who actually believe that, or they are here posting for Barry....

I will vote against Obama. Hopefully by 2016 there will emerge a real Tea Party candidate in the Republican Party—one of those elected in 2010 who will have an actual Tea Party record to run on by then.

As demonstrated with Clinton the
Republicans don’t have the gonads to convict an impeached President... not even the usurper Obama with his wanton deconstruction of the Constitution

I will vote for the nominee even it’s Mr. Magoo or Charlie Sheen. If it’s Mittens, I’ll vote for him. I won’t like it. I may need a three day shower and gallon of cheap whisky to get the smell and taste of disappointment off me but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Getting rid of The One is that important. Besides, could he do any worse?

Obama WILL be impeached if re-elected.

I would like nothing better, but if he's not being impeached now, what on earth changes if he gets reelected?

He owns the justice department, and if he gets reelected he is going to own the Supreme Court in short order.

You are replacing rational thought with "hope."

Oddly enough, Sheldon Adelson seems to think Romney will be the nominee but he continues to fund Gingrich.

It is voting the party-line BS that has gotten us into this mess, into this soft tyranny, dominated by progressives and RINO’s.

Those RINOs got there through party-line voting and they will continue to ‘get there,’ until we figure out WE are the one’s putting into office those who WILL TRADE AWAY OUR FREEDOM.

The RINO is worse than voting for the democrat, the RINO is a sneak, liar, and horse-trader of Rights that are not his to barter with the devil with.

One out right takes our Rights and the other willing trades them away.

And you all sit there behind your keyboards acting all high and mighty holding your noses pulling levers and casting votes as if they actually matter.

Obama is doing to the USA what the Black Plague did to Europe in the Middle Ages. He is a pestilence on the land.

I’m a big time conservative and abhor RINOs, but will vote for whoever the GOP ends up nominating. One can’t sit home on election day when the house is burning up all around you.

I do agree the GOP leadership has let down we conservatives and TEA Party followers. We yelled and they refused to listen. We are not going away and may need to build a conservative third party structure after 11/2012, but not voting for Obama’s GOP opponent means the America we hope to save will be in its death throes if Obama gets another term.

Romney is too progressive himself to stop the groundwork laid in by the 0bama regime. All Romney is going to do is trade away our Rights. 0bama gets back in it forces the democrats to take way our rights.

In the end it is the same damn thing.

We either really get off our backsides and push for Newt or our country is over. Rino Romney isn’t going to be able to do a thing to stop the slide, Romney doesn’t have the guts.

This GOPer will unite behind Gingrich or Santorum.

The GOP establishment needs to get this into their heads. Many in the GOP will no longer blindly follow the wishes of the NRC. They now vote their values.

Whoever wins, I believe the Alan West for President 2016 campaign should begin on inauguration day 2013 !! But to abstain from voting or voting 3rd party or write-in makes one an accomplice in the next 4 years of America’s destruction via the Obama Socialistic Movement. As bad as Romney is... and I agree with most said here...he is NOT an avowed Socialist, is a legal natural born citizen, and I believe he has learned an appreciation for the constitution (albeit after a temporary bout of government overreach insanity with MassCare) and will overall be better for the country than 4 more years of Alinsky-Dorn-Ayers-Marshall inspired “fundamental change” this tool of the left has placed in the White House.
Flame away if you wish, but I agree with the posters who say they will crawl through broken glass and the fires of Hell to vote AGAINST Obama and for whichever candidate the GOP finally places in nomination. The cliche’ a half-loaf is better than no-loaf certainly applies.

Believe me, I haven't given up on Newt yet!!!

I can't disagree w/any of your conclusions; Romney may well lose even if I vote for him. I just know I have to do whatever is possible to try to defeat Obama at all costs. That's the bottom line for me at this point.

As long as someone’s son, daughter, husband, wife, mother, father, sister or brother is wearing the uniform of one of our armed services and serving this country in a war zone I owe it to them to try to give them a President who will, at least try, to do what is right in order to support them.

I don't expect much out of Romney ...domestically he could well be worse than Obama; particularly if he has a good majority of “go along/get along” Republicans in Congress to pass legislation that incrementally moves us more leftward. Of course we can try to ameliorate that by getting as many strong Conservatives elected as we can “down ticket.”

If Romney wins his preordained “coronation,” just as soon as this election is over there needs to be serious third party discussion!!!

-Take care,

-Geoff

Newt, Santorum, Palin, whoever, will unite behind the nominee.

Just watch. Can’t prove it now, but you will see it is so eventually. LOL

ABO, conservatives had their chance but failed to support conservative candidates without baggage and push them for a win. Instead we trashed our own looking for the perfect which does not exist. Nobody can pretend they are pure and perfect, those folks decided they were not even going to try.

Food for thought.
