Rick Santorum's taken a large lead in Michigan's upcoming Republican primary. He's at 39% to 24% for Mitt Romney, 12% for Ron Paul, and 11% for Newt Gingrich.
Santorum's rise is attributable to two major factors: his own personal popularity (a stellar 67/23 favorability) and GOP voters increasingly souring on Gingrich. Santorum's becoming something closer and closer to a consensus conservative candidate as Gingrich bleeds support.
Santorum's winning an outright majority of the Tea Party vote with 53% to 22% for Romney and 10% for Gingrich. He comes close to one with Evangelicals as well at 48% to 20% for Romney and 12% for Gingrich. And he cracks the 50% line with voters identifying as 'very conservative' at 51% to 20% for Romney and 10% for Gingrich.
Santorum's benefiting from the open nature of Michigan's primary as well. He's only up by 12 points with actual Republican voters, but he has a 40-21 advantage with the Democrats and independents planning to vote that pushes his overall lead up to 15 points. Santorum is winning by a healthy margin in every region of the state except for Oakland County, where Romney has a 40-26 advantage, and the area around Lansing where Paul actually has an advantage at 30% to 27% for both Romney and Santorum.

It says the blue collar socially consrvative Reagan Democrats are on board.
What planet have you been living on? This has been the case since the Nixon/Kennedy showdown.
Women are the backbone of the election this November, and if a wholesome, family-based man is on the Republican ticket, then they will support him.
Gingrich's baggage with bad marriages will NOT get him the support that a family man can get from women voters.

Not sure what to make of this.
Actually, it's because my sense of humor is so well-developed, that I find yours so disturbing.
But if it makes you feel better, keep thinking you're funny. And we'll all keep laughing..... at you........
Sorry, Newt has been his own worst enemy... I really, really liked him up until he bought into global warming, and began pushing, along with democrats, the crap and trade bs... then to see him setting on a couch with that whacked out Nancy Pelosi and THE REV. AL Sharpton, just made my head explode. But I decided I would come back to him during the primaries and give him a chance, he has failed. He has shown himself to be petty and undisciplined, not to mention narcissistic, which is probably why he’s been divorced more than once.

Bwahahahaha! The MSU yute vote. Red Cedar Days would be a Paulinista’s dream.
Probably polls well in Washtenaw County, too. Hash Bash Paulbots.
likely a college kid...
Not only that, but the numbers just cannot add up for Santorum. He had almost no money, organization OR popularity until the Primaries already started.
It's beyond too late to gather all of that together, this late in the election. There are too many key states in which he is not even on the ballot in.
And all of this latest “surge” is based on 3 sudden insignificant early states that don't matter in the count until the convention.
But the Lemming stampede is determined which cliff they want to run off of for the moment. That much is crystal clear.

Wow. Slamming women's suffrage. Are you for real?
I would like to see Newt debate Obama, but after his Florida debates that desire diminished greatly. especially when he said he didn’t do well because he was shocked that Romney would like about what Newt was claiming. WTH does he think Obama is going to do in a debate? It will be all lies and Newt admits that he can’t handle an opponent that is not intellectually honest. So I’m not sure he would win either.
Anyway...I am STILL in an anti-Romney mood...and always WILL be. It is clear that as we near super Tuesday...Newt needs to go. He had his chance and he blew it. Rick lasted longer than him and he needs to bow out. If it doesn't...he takes away from Rick and slits the vote. All those who were calling for Rick to do the same thing should have some intellectual integrity and see that the worm has turned.
MSU is relatively conservative compared to UofM. I live about equidistant from Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Hillsdale.
Santorum, like Romney, is a big spending, big government liberal, but what the heck, he never sat on a couch with Pelosi................UGH! OBTW, St. Rick's views on social issues, once known, won't fly with most Republicans must less independents.
:: the “debates will magically save everything” and wishful thinking ::
I’m more and more convinced that Obamugabe will simply not debate the Republican challenger, no matter who it is.
Two Words - Brokered Convention.
Palin is letting the nominees self-destruct, throwing enough hints about supporting Gingrich to keep Romney from locking in the nomination. The HBO hit piece movie (Game Change) was probably timed to sink her nomination; with her not running it will draw a yawn from the media and be old news by the convention. Then she will step forward and be the only candidate not damaged by the nomination fight.
About time for the media attack machine to start on Santorum - if we are lucky they will try to make hay of his daughter's health as a reason he can't concentrate on the Presidency. That might backfire ....
What do looks have to do with anything? What a sexist thing to say. I don't like Gingrich because Gingrich IS Washington. I don't like Gingrich because of his ties to FM/FM. I don't like Gingrich because I don't trust him, no more than I would trust ANY serial philanderer.
He was asking me what I thought about the candidates.
He was stunned when I told him about "H3" and why Newt wants to go to the Moon, and he was Flummoxed why the media didn't tell him the truth ( hang with me here...)
He then says what do I think about this Santorum guy as he mispronounced his name.
I said ya I like him and told him a bit about him.
But his answer was the money something to this effect; "This Romney guy come across phony like a takeover guy, This Rick seems Blue Collar"
Ding, ding, ding we have a winner...
I have been saying for a few weeks, Rick could get the support of the "Macomb County Democrats" ergo the Reagan Democrats of which many were Catholic.
If so like I predicted, Michigan could become ground Zero for Zero....
Apparently n00b, you don't have the courage or the courtesy, that when you stab another forum member in the back, you at least include their name in the post.
And calling me a “College kid”? ROFLMAO! Oh, I went to College alright, I am a Petroleum Drilling Engineer, who was last in College, on the GI Bill over 35 years ago.
60 years of living and near dying experiences, has taught me that beyond all doubt, cowards like you are a dime a dozen and especially love to shoot from behind the cover of their keyboards.
Do you have a backup MI ping list? MY pc crashed over the weekend, still in the process of moving docs from the dead to the living.
