Rick Santorum's taken a large lead in Michigan's upcoming Republican primary. He's at 39% to 24% for Mitt Romney, 12% for Ron Paul, and 11% for Newt Gingrich.
Santorum's rise is attributable to two major factors: his own personal popularity (a stellar 67/23 favorability) and GOP voters increasingly souring on Gingrich. Santorum's becoming something closer and closer to a consensus conservative candidate as Gingrich bleeds support.
Santorum's winning an outright majority of the Tea Party vote with 53% to 22% for Romney and 10% for Gingrich. He comes close to one with Evangelicals as well at 48% to 20% for Romney and 12% for Gingrich. And he cracks the 50% line with voters identifying as 'very conservative' at 51% to 20% for Romney and 10% for Gingrich.
Santorum's benefiting from the open nature of Michigan's primary as well. He's only up by 12 points with actual Republican voters, but he has a 40-21 advantage with the Democrats and independents planning to vote that pushes his overall lead up to 15 points. Santorum is winning by a healthy margin in every region of the state except for Oakland County, where Romney has a 40-26 advantage, and the area around Lansing where Paul actually has an advantage at 30% to 27% for both Romney and Santorum.

Santorum has this vote from Michigan.
A Romney loss in Michigan would be a very good thing.
Wow is right! When is the primary election in Michigan?
I’m sure the Romney smear machine will be putting itself on overdrive. They won’t tolerate this outrage!
Glory be to God. I was hoping that Sanatorum was our candidate. Now I am convinced that he will be. This guy is brilliant. What a great campaign he is running. He has a great strategy that is working. He knew he didn’t need Florida or Maine. In Maine although he did not campaign, he still got 18 percent. Not terrible. I am becoming so much happier everyday that Santorum will be our President. I hope he will have a constitutional amendment abolishing that horrible abortion. We FINALLY will have someone in office how will at least fight for this. We are so lucky! Thank you America!!!!
Maybe Newt and Paul need to drop out.

Has the negative ad blitz started yet?
Ouch!
The only thing worse than Santorum taking Michigan [Romney’s home state] would be Santorum taking Georgia [from where Gingrich served as Representative].
Santorum may have acquired the Big Mo in a Big way.
Stunning. A loss fort Romney in Michigan would be devastating to his campaign. Consider that the there are more delegates at stake in the two primaries at the end of this month than in all of Super Tuesday in March according to what I saw last night.
I can vote for Santorum if I have to, but I don’t think he can cut the Mustard as President.
However anything is better than what we have.
Byron York said on Bill Bennett show this morning that he expects Romney to take Michigan, but if Romney loses to Santorum in Michigan that it would be a ‘huge’ and major blow to Romney’s campaign.
his own personal popularity (a stellar 67/23 favorability)
Sad that the 23 percent are FREEPERS. I tell you 67 percent popularity is INCREDIBLE. Thank you God. Santorum will be one of the best President in history.
Waiting for the smears...
Tick Tick Tick
I was actually gunning hard for Newt, but if Santorum turns out to be the strongest, he's got my vote!

Newt staying in is Mitt’s saving grace right now. Santorum would be up 48-27 in MI if Newt dropped: http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2012/02/santorum-moves-ahead-in-michigan.html
Michigan??????...............(Thailand?)..........
