Does the thought of Mitt Romney, a devout Mormon and Mormon leader, becoming President scare you? After reading this testimonial of an ex-Mormon ((http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/richard_packham/why.html)), I am scared of Mitt Romney becoming President. Remember when Barack Obama was seeking the nomination in 2008, his 20 year attendance at Jerimiah Wright's church where radical preaching took place was glossed over by the American public and the press. I say we do not make the same mistake with Mitt Romney and his leadership role in the Mormon Church. In the GOP nominating process, let's explore Mitt's Mormon beliefs. Am I totally off base? Please read the link on the ex-Mormon above!
and isnt now
otherwise you wouldnt be sending 2 of 52,000 ignorant intolerant Mormon teenagers to my Christian door to tell me that Im in the wrong religion...
Wheres the principle of religious liberty in that ???
By your comment, I dont think religious liberty means what you think it means.
Personally Ive never had a Mormon come to my door, live alone one (and Ive know a few over the years) tell me Im the wrong religion. I know they go door to door, but theyve never come to my door so perhaps Im missing something.
OTOH, Ive had quite a fair share of JOHOs and evangelical Christians tell me growing up as a Catholic that I was the wrong religion, that I was not a Christian and was an Papist heathen idol worshipper. And Ive had a fair share of Catholics tell me I was wrong when I left Catholicism, including my own brother. Ive had more than my fair share of Christians, of many persuasions tell me that I was evil and going to Hell, etc. when I became an agnostic and eventually an atheist. And many of them were and are quite nasty about it.
And I should mention that Im not one of those non-believers who is anti-religion. I believe it is a personal choice, protected by our Constitution even for those of us who have chosen not to believe. I dont go around telling people they are stupid for belonging to a religion, I dont BTW go around protesting public displays of religion, i.e. Christmas trees in the town square. I think they are beautiful and represent our shared Christian cultural heritage.
But if a couple of young men come to your door wanting to tell you about the Book of Mormon, thats not a crime even if you find it personally offensive. You have no right BTW not to be offended thats Liberal territory.
All you have to do is say No thanks. Im not interested. and shut the door. I do the same thing when the JOHOs come to my door, when my neighbor and co-worker invites me to come to their evangelical church, when my SIL asks me to go to Mass with her, when kids come around selling magazine subscriptions and when telemarketers call me.
Im not pro-Mormon, Im certainly NOT pro-Romney (I cant stand him and dont trust him on the issues) and Im as I said not anti-religion and particularly Im not anti-Christian. But if you are inferring that Mormons or any persons of a religious faith (including Jews, Buddhists, etc.) have no right to espouse their faith and tell you about their faith, that their very doing do so is a personal affront to you and your Christian door, keep in mind that the gate swings both ways.
You and others believe Mormons are blasphemous, fine. Im not going to argue with you nor do I care to. A lot of religions believe other religions are blasphemous and so it has been since man looked to the heavens and tried to find answers for difficult questions and it goes even today.
The Founding Fathers, many of them devout Christians themselves, well understood, not having been too far removed from the many violent religious persecutions of all types in Europe, the importance of the Freedom of Religion and that includes the Freedom of Religions you dont agree with, the Freedom to speak your own mind and the Freedom to ignore that with which you dont agree. Therin lies the "religious liberty". I will defend to my very last breath, your right to believe as you see fit. Would you do the same for me?
For a guy who says he doesn’t care, you sure used a lot of words to tell us that.
Hi TN,
And you have the very same freedom to teach your beliefs to me. Thank God we live in such a country!
Go back and read what I actually said. I dont care what one religion thinks about another because of their particular interpretation of scripture and disagreement with another or of what any of you believe about the true nature of GOD. There are many religions and even many sects within Christianity who believe different things, some on minor points some on major ones. Fight among yourselves if you wish and Im sure your will, youve done this for thousands of years now. You are entitled to agree or disagree.
I do however care and I care very deeply that our Constitution says you all have the right to believe as you see fit. The Constitution says there is no established religion and even gives me the right to not believe without fear of prosecution or retribution by the government. The First Amendment gives us all the right to express our views as it likewise allows us to dismiss those views with which we do not agree.
I will defend with my life your right to believe what you will about God just as I will likewise defend the right of a Jew, Mormon, Catholic, Buddhist, Wiccan, even dare I say a Muslim. As long as you are not putting a knife to me or trying to blow me up or force me to believe as you do, as long as you believe in my and everyones Constitutional right to live as a free person with all the individual Liberties our Constitution affords, I dont care what you believe, but I defend your right to believe.
BTW Im a gal, not a guy. : ),
A guy in the generic sense.
So lots of words to explain again.
Show me where anyone has said mormons can not beleive what they want.
It may serve you to actually learn about moromnISM.
Your list of who you will defend is interesting as you leave out Christians.
Really? islam.......Oookay!
Shut up; Satan...
Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, Did God really say, You must not eat from any tree in the garden?
*The following is a letter from Elder Lance B. Wickman, General Counsel of the Church to publishers of major newspapers, TV stations and magazines. It was sent out on Tuesday, June 24, 2008.
Recent events have focused the media spotlight on a polygamous sect near San Angelo, Texas, calling itself the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. As you probably know, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has absolutely no affiliation with this polygamous sect. Decades ago, the founders of that sect rejected the doctrines of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, were excommunicated, and then started their own religion. To the best of our knowledge, no one at the Texas compound has ever been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Unfortunately, however, some of the media coverage of the recent events in Texas has caused members of the public to confuse the doctrines and members of that group and our church. We have received numerous inquiries from confused members of the public who, by listening to less than careful media reports, have come to a grave misunderstanding about our respective doctrines and faith. Based on these media reports many have erroneously concluded that there is some affiliation between the two or even worse, that they are one and the same.
Over the years, in a careful effort to distinguish itself, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has gone to significant lengths to protect its rights in the name of the church and related matters. Specifically, we have obtained registrations for the name The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mormon, Book of Mormon and related trade and service marks from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and corresponding agencies in a significant number of foreign countries.
We are confident that you are committed to avoiding misleading statements that cause unwarranted confusion and that may disparage or infringe the intellectual property rights discussed above. Accordingly, we respectfully request the following:
Stated simply, we would like to be known and recognized for whom we are and what we believe, and not be inaccurately associated with beliefs and practices that we condemn in the strongest terms. We would be grateful if you could circulate or copy this letter to your editorial staff and to your legal counsel.
We thank you for your consideration of these important matters.
Sincerely,
Lance B. Wickman
General Counsel

BOO!
When CHRISTIANS start claiming to be Jews, and the ONLY TRUE JEWS at that; THEN start to worry...
Could... but what are the odds?
Sure; believe what you want; but PLEASE!!! Don't be upset when OUR 'freedom' permits us to TALK about your heretical way of belief.
They would NOT be so intolerant if they were NOT so ignorant of ALL of the facts out there!
Agreed, MD Expat.
I like to chat with Jehovah’s Witnesses when they come to my door and I even take their literature. I know they think they have the true religion and that I am probably a lost soul — it doesn’t bother me a bit, so long as they are friendly and go away and leave me alone when the conversation is over.
I think it is great to live in a country where we can share religious beliefs, even if they are different.
I have been a Mormon missionary and gone door to door talking about our faith. The goal is not to tell people how wrong they are; it’s to offer them something that I think is worth knowing about. My life changed for the better because of Mormonism, so I’m glad to share that knowledge with anyone who would like to know about it. Probably 99 per cent of people I talked with as a missionary weren’t interested, so we said goodbye and moved on.
And the mormonISM delusion continues.....place marker
I do read the Bible. Have done so all of my life. Both before I became LDS and after.
Read Genesis 1: 26-27. God himself says, “Let us make manin our own image,” male and femalee. So apparently there is an “us” to the Gods, and male and female have something to do with being in their image. In Genesis 3:22 after Adam had sinned, again, God said, “he (Adam) has become as one of us,” again speaking of the plurality in Heaven, and showing, BTW that the lie Lucifer told Adam and Eve was not that they would become as the Gods (because God himself in vs. 22 says that they had), but that Adam “would not surely die,”...because God brought him into mortality, dust to dust afterwards.
In Matthew 5:48, Jesus Christ commands us to, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in Heaven is perfect.”
We believe He meant it. Paul spoke of that potential as well in Romans. John also spoke of it.
At Christ’s baptism the Holy Ghost descended, Christ was being baptised, and the Father spoke from Heave...indicating a plurality. The same occurred at the mount of transfiguration. The martyr Stephen saw Christ sitting, seprately on the right hand of God, also indicating their seprateness and plurality.
Jesus Himself explained in the intecessory prayer in John what their oneness meant when He prayed that His disciples would, “become one,” even as He and the Father were one. He didn’t mean for them to come together mysticly and be one entity/personage with twelve different representations, He meant for them to become perfectly united through Christ in heart and mind.
There’s lots more.
So, there is plenty of evidence in the Bible itself for what those men opined on in their personal teachings.
You disagree hotly with their interpretation and that is fine, you have every right. But do not suppose or indicate that what they were talking about does not have biblical, both Old and New Testament, reference.
So, yes, I believe as Christ commands that I can become as God the Father is. It will probably take many, many millinea in the herafter I suppos...or longer, but I believe that is what He wants for His children because He had Jesus Chriost Himself command us to do so. I also believe that becoming like Him involves more than me, it involves my wife, as God indicated when He created Adam and Eve.
You believe differently and I am sure can show me all sorts of great scholars who indicate differently...but I read the Bible and take it for what it says, and believe it when Paul also indicated in the New Testament that Christ’s Church was made up of Prophets, Apostles, Evangelsist, Teachers, Bishops, etc. It is the way the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is organized precisely for that reason.
Those apostles did tell us to look out for false prophets, and I agree...but they also taught that His church would have prophets so there clearly should be true prophets as well.
You believe and teach Joseph Smith was false. I have a testimony of him being true. We disagree.
In the end, it will be our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and Him crucified that will both save us and lead us to all truth. And that is where I am content to leave it.
You are perfectly free to call me a heritic. And I am just as free to tell you or anyone else that you full of it.
Ain't Freedom grand that way?
Go back and re-read what I said and tell me where I left out Christians.
Jew, Mormon, Catholic, Buddhist, Wiccan, even dare I say a Muslim
Jeff, why aren’t you answering the questions directed to you?
Do you beleive as lds have taught that there are Quaker like people on the moon?
Do you beleive as lds teach that you will receive your own planet?
Which is the fourteen versions of the first vision do you consider “true”?
The goal is not to tell people how wrong they are; its to offer them something that I think is worth knowing about

C’mon Normy
you know thats not why those 52,00 ignorant intolerant Motmon teenagers are out knocking on the doors of Christians...
BTW it takes knocking on 700 doors before a JW will make a convert...
Mormon kids dont do as well...
in fact for the 1000s of doors that Willie Mitty knocked on in the 2 1/2 years he vacated in Paris, France during his draft dodging instead of serving our country and going to Nam
he admits he got NONE...
Nope not one convert
not one sale...
Now that is not a successful man...
a real poor salesman...
the socalled “one mighty and strong” is really a pathetic weakling loser..
so much for experience..
so just maybe people think what you are selling is not really that worth having or even knowing about...
