Brutal Newt Gingrich Ad in the Works
abc ^ | Jan 27, 2012 10:40am | Jonathan Karl

Newt Gingrich is responding to last night’s debate with a brutal new ad accusing Romney of trying to mislead, deceive, and distort his way to the White House.

Here’s the money line: ”What kind of man would mislead, distort and deceive just to win an election? This man would: Mitt Romney.”

The ad essentially accuses Romney of lying at least twice in the debate last night: 1) about his blind trust and, 2) about his vote for Paul Tsongas in 1992.

The ad is still being produced, but here is the full ad script:

Governor Mike Huckabee:

“If a man’s dishonest to get a job, he’ll be dishonest on the job.”

Voice-over:

“What kind of man would mislead, distort and deceive just to win an election?”

“This man would: Mitt Romney.”

“Romney said he has always voted Republican when he had the opportunity.”

Newt missed a great opportunity last night.

CNN called out Romney when they said Romney, after Mitt’s denial and ignorance, was in fact running anti-Newt ads about “ghetto” language, saying that the ads ended with Mitt’s vice approving the ad.

Newt should have said that it is obvious the type of president Mitt would become... the buck not stopping at his office... denying anything that goes wrong in his administration... sounding much like Holder in the fast and furious scandal... sounding like Obama.

If Mitt cannot control and take responsibility in a campaign, just think what his administration will be like.

I think Newt and Romney should agree to settle this thing the old fashion way, pistols at ten paces. The winner would be elected in a landslide. Obama would be to terrified to run a single negative ad.

I agree that Gingrich should have done a little more gloating when Romney was proved to be a liar again.

He should also have asked how Romney could possibly govern the country when he can’t remember an ad he personally endorsed, doesn’t know what was in his last year’s tax returns, even where he deposits his money and what he invests in. Gimme a break. How does Romney remember to put his shoes on in the morning?

Correct. He also did himself no good in last night's debate by running to the left of Romney on immigration. Goldberg ran a great article on the Newtzilla. Basically, it said only the Newtzilla can beat the Newtzilla.

I hope Rick Santorum can hang on just in case that happens.

I think they should just put out a video with Romney’s best “I don’t know,” “I don’t remember,” or “I have people to do that for me” moments. You know, referring to ads he has personally endorsed, his last year’s tax returns or what he invests his money in or even where it goes. This is a businessman?

Newt was unfaithful in the PAST. He admitted his errors and changed.
Romney is a liar NOW. He admits nothing and hasn’t changed his ways.

2012 is make or break for capitalism in the entire U.S.! Will we have a return to the U.S. as a country of capitalism, or will we have a third world, socialistic U.S. for a very long time to, even, forever? U.S. conservatism could be DOA very soon, if true conservatism doesn’t win, at each and every political level, during the ‘12 November general election!

If the Lord can forgive and give second chances shouldn’t we as well?

Only the Lord can look into the heart of man and know if repentance was sincere. Man can't. Voter's just have to use their judgment in deciding what to believe. Some will believe the changes of heart and/or mind of Newt or Romney or others, and some won't.

But this sort of ad can cut both ways, whether from Newt or Romney or whoever.

-- Whatever happened to the L-word? Is Newt afraid to simply call Romney out on his intentional lies? --

Newt did say that Romney "can't tell the truth."

It is discouraging that lies get as much traction as they do. Surprising how many otherwise upstanding people go in for lying on behalf of Romney.

That ended after Iowa, sir. Romney the rhino couldn’t just win on the issues and so it’s a bloody battle of ads...which is unfortunate but that’s how it is. Unless of coarse you want the conservative to just give in...?

Rick was ,my man and I agree with him more but in this tight race and Rick looking to pack it in then I’ll be going for Newt and no way Romney.

Rick is just too nice to go after Obama and right now we need a fighter and someone who shake up DC and the establishment knows this and that is why they are fighting tooth and nail to stop Newt and they’re using dirty tactics too, like filling up the crowd last night with the Romneybots.

I wish Rick would now do a Perry which got a lot of respect form many and drop out and endorse Newt thus giving Newt those votes he so much needs right now to take him to win my state and then there is no stopping him

We have been here before.

Way back in 1884, Grover Cleveland (D) was running against James G. Blaine (R) for the presidency.

Blaine was a profoundly corrupt businessman - tons of influence peddling scandals, etc.

Cleveland was pretty honest for a politician - cleaned up first his home town and then Tammany Hall in NY State.

But during the campaign, Blaine's people dug up evidence that Cleveland (a bachelor) had fathered an illegitimate child on a sprightly widow back home in Buffalo.

So they rang up the 'hypocrisy' accusations on 'Grover the Good' - e.g.

"Ma - Ma - where's my pa? Gone to the White House, ha ha ha!"

But perhaps the best word was that of somebody who wrote a letter to the editor of one of the Cleveland papers - and it's equally applicable today:

"I gather that Mr. Cleveland has shown high character and great capacity in public office but that in private life his conduct has been open to question, while, on the other hand, Mr. Blaine, in public life has been weak and dishonest, while he seems to have been an admirable husband and father. The conclusion that I draw from these facts is that we should elect Mr. Cleveland to the public office which he is so admirably qualified to fill and remand Mr. Blaine to the private life which he is so eminently fitted to adorn."

The real story here is that ABC News apparently has someone on the inside of whatever production company Newt is using for this ad.

Surely Newt himself isn’t leaking the script - why would he give away its contents to Mitt before the ad can even air and have an impact?

My wife is from MA and she has family there and she said that Romney was out and out lying about Romneycare.

He flipped and flopped nearly all night on the issues and did not even answer the questions from the crowd.

I;m like you I just don’;t see how anyone could vote for Romney after all the lies and attacks he has done along with his big Govt policies in MA

BTW I lived with my wife up there when Romney was Gov and he seems to be living in fairy land to how he describes MA when he was there

That would be a incredible and Santorum would have conservative appreciation for decades to come.

But they are NEVER called LIAR as in liar, liar, pants on fire. We tip toe around that word. It's well past the time to resurrect it.

I’d have hoped Newt and Rick would have sat down and said listen we can help this country , our cause and take Romney the snake out of this.

You will have a top position in my cabinet etc.
