An InsiderAdvantage poll conducted Wednesday night has former House Speaker Newt Gingrich now leading the Republican primary race in South Carolina.
The poll of likely Republican primary voters has Gingrich with 32 percent, ahead of Mitt Romney who trailed close behind at 29 percent.
The results are a significant reversal for Romney, who had led polls before Tuesday's Fox News debate. A poll conducted by InsiderAdvantage last Sunday showed Romney with a double-digit lead over Gingrich.
The InsiderAdvantage poll is the first major South Carolina survey after the debate. Gingrich has been crediting with winning the debate.
The poll found that support for Ron Paul and Rick Santorum is faltering, with both pulling 15 and 11 percent, respectively.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry finished last with just 3 percent of the vote. Three percent of those polled selected "other candidate" and 7 percent said they had no opinion.
The survey polled 718 registered Republican voters.

“Agreed. One is sinking, and the other is already sunk. Get those passengers over to the USS Newt as quickly as possible”
Hahahaha. I like that analogy. GO NEWT GO!
” why does this have to be some secret plot?” <<<
Marianne the Vicious is not a secret plot. You are absolutely correct. The marvel here is the superb, meticulous timing of all this, three days before the ballot. Marianne the Vicious has been sitting on “GO” for years, but to make her story catch fire someone had to time its perfect release to a national audience. Marianne didn’t force this timing. ABC didn’t force this timing it seems to me, or else they wouldn’t have been said to be in a “civil war” over it and when to release it. So SOMEBODY with power DID. Someone said go see Marianne, and go national with what she has to say, NOW, when it counts.
I ain’t gonna spoil the happiness, just let’s wait for the results.
Then we figure where we go from here.
Meanwhile now we can focus on dumping on Romney.
Well, from where I sit, Newt is winning. So why would you want Santorum to drop out, when Newt’s going to collect all the delegates from South Carolina?
Let’s wait for the results and then go from there.
I pray to God this is accurate! Mitt Romney must be stopped. Newt, with all his flaws and imperfections, is our last hope for having a level headed, mostly conservative President.
I agree, Newt will walk away with Florida if he pulls out the upset in SC. No cross over voters in Florida, so Romney will not be able to count on Dems and Indies to help him out.
Romney needs to prove that he can win a Southern state before Florida, or it will be 2008 all over again for him.
That is the dirty little secret no one talks about. Mitt has yet to prove he can win in the deep South.
“Its all up to him.
I think the nomination will be determined tomorrow night.”
Race is just getting started.
There's reason for that. It's a matter of record that Perry shoots coyotes.
but this interview apparently took place on monday, before the debate, when Newt was way behind and no one thought he really had a chance of winning.
They had no way of knowing when they did the interview that Newt would do great in the debate, Romney relatively poorly, Palin would “endorse” him, and he’d surge forward and possibly take the lead by Thursday.
As far they knew on monday they were interviewing the ex-wife of a guy on the verge of being blown out in SC and pretty much done heading into FL.
So why would someone say go see her on Monday(and the interview was likely set up a bit before that) when Romney was up by double digits?
I just think is good timing and luck that Newt ended up killing it at the debate and surging just at the time they did the interview. I don’t think there was any big conspiracy or plan, at least initially.
I do agree, that the decision to air it tomorrow night may be influenced by certain quarters. I doubt Axelrod. the dems would love Newt to be the nominee and would want this held till the fall. If there’s any outside push it’s from Romney and the beltway as a last ditch effort to stop Newt and save Romney.
I think if this was anything new and damning, it wouldn’t be on some late late night 1/2 hour news show that no one watches on ABC.
Botom Line: They’ve got nothing on Newt or this would have been the six o’clock lead network news story or sold to CNN. Instead this is pure National Enquirer retread filler.
If you’re going to persist in calling me delusional when I’m playing for your team after SAT, you’re going to eat a big plate of crow.
I suggest you refrain.
Now it’s 30 points of differential. By tomorrow morning it might flip.

I’m all in for Newt Gingrich, but I like Rick Perry second best. He’s the most personable and likable and he’s so friendly, nice and gracious in person, too. I am certain he would keep his word as president. I was surprised he didn’t get the endorsement of the Evangelical pastors. I guess they watch polls, too.
This probably isn’t the best thread to opine, but I’ve been thinking how different the results might be were one of the first primaries in my state of Mississippi for example, instead of New Hampshire or Iowa. I’m willing to wager Romney’s $10,000, that Southerner’s Perry and Gingrich would both be leading the Massachusetts moderate going into Iowa or New Hampshire.
OPEN primaries, in two purple states, permitted the Ron Paul vote and Romney to win.
But, it is what it is. The GOP is the stupid party.
Ironically the Cain attacks may have immunized voters against these kind of tactics.
“I do agree, that the decision to air it tomorrow night may be influenced by certain quarters”
I think that is just it. They had the interview in the can and were waiting to air it at the right moment. It just so happened the right moment in their minds came up sooner than they probably thought.
Michael Douglas as one of the stars of the movie "Wall Street" -- a Vulture Capitalist who bought companies, bought stock, then dumped it before gutting the companies and ruining people's lives.
Good movie. Check it out sometime.
Probably. They were planning on airing it monday. Likely as they figured after SC no one would care about Newt anymore and Monday would be the last day he’d have any relevance. Sort of a kick him while he’s down. The media never liked him and this was thier last chance to rub it in and dance on his corpse.
Now, they saw the polls, and moved it up.
Because Santo isn't doing anything but wasting his, and his supporters' time and money, while splitting the conservative vote.
I tried to tell you after Iowa, that Rick's poll numbers would revert to trend, and they're doing just that, day by day.
I don't personally have anything against the man, but like Bachmann, he's over-reaching in his bid for the presidency. He would have had a much better chance at the nomination, if he were a sitting Senator.
When he was a Senator, he didn't make the sort of large impact on national politics that could carry him through to a presidential run while out of office. Heck, most Americans aren't even sure who the guy is.
Rick is still young enough to serve a term as a state Governor, then come back to the presidential contest with some real governing stats and 'gravitas'. Even that's no guarantee that he'll ever win his party's nomination, but he'd have a real shot, in my opinion.
Speaking of winning Iowa..
I think early tomorrow morning Willard’s gettin’ bad news out of Iowa.
And we can ALL congratulate Senator Ricky Santorum for it!
Ironically the Cain attacks may have immunized voters against these kind of tactics.
**************
lainde, could have. But, millions of dollars of negative ads against Newt in Iowa, NH, and now SC-— What more can they possibly say about him that isn’t known? Seriously.
If Rush and the gang deal with this properly- and call it for the smear attack that it is- and rally folks against it——Newt will come out the better because Romney will look like the most craven, creepy politician imaginable.
