The Obama administration is expected to reject the controversial Keystone Pipeline this afternoon, according to Fox News.
The State Department is expected to vote against the pipeline this afternoon. Transcanada will however be allowed to reapply with an alternate route going through Nebraska.
The administration will be unlikely to approve the pipeline under the timeline for the payroll tax cut extension law which requires a decision by February 21
The project has been extremely controversial for two main reasons. Those in favor of the pipeline point to the 8.5% unemployment rate, and point out that the pipeline could create much-needed high-paying jobs. Moreover, it would provide cash-strapped governments with tax revenues. On the other hand after the BP Deepwater spill of 2010 and ExxonMobil's July 2011 pipeline spill, environmentalists are pressuring the Obama administration to nip the project in the bud.

I think how these candidates handle this issue in the debate will be the final thing to cement my decision about the primary. I suspect others will be paying close attention.
This issue is NOT a winner for Obamer and if those Repub candidates are serious they'll get out the long knives for Obamer on this one.
Our repersenatives are NOT representing the people.
If something like this was done by a conservative president, Harry Reid Peloski et al would be all over it.
The Hollywood vote and money is a lot more important than real jobs.
Many of the ranchers I talked to in Western Nebraska didn’t want the pipeline. The liability was to high, and they have been burned by energy companies before.
On the other side of clinton was nancy pelosi. This was taken immediately prior to the election. When action is required, the powers that be submit their 'needs' to bill who then directs the puppet in the white tent.
This is why poor wittle nancy can't retire.
Who needs a pipeline when your friend, Warren Buffett, owns a railroad and has a $38B subsidy to haul the oil?
