2012 Iowa Caucus Live Thread
Iowa GOP ^ | 1.3.12 | Free Vulcan

Posted on 01/03/2012 8:08:24 AM PST by Free Vulcan

Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.

Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.

We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.

My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:

Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1

Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.

What’s the basis for your racism charge?

You’re right. Palin been such a disappointment to millions.

She needs to go BOLD for once this cycle.

Endorse Newt or Santorum, even.

Loving the strong showing for Santorum. Today was a bad day for Kenobi, but a good day for America. That’s enough to give me hope.

That, sir, was a gentlemanly comment.

Really? I am not watching, just reading this thread, but that sounds great. Good to know Miss Sarah is still driving the pundits crazy.

I am going to watch the local news at the top of the hour to see how cold it’s going to get here tonight!

Darn, I hoped Santorum had enough of a lead. Down by just shy of 500.

It's up to 59 percent of the caucuses counted, and Santorum seems to be edging into a lead, with Romney third. Many of the major counties with Christian conservative populations have broken solidly for Santorum, but a lot of the counties left with significant history of Republican turnouts have yet to vote.

Two interesting question marks are Orange City and Sioux Center. Both are college towns, but both are heavily Dutch Reformed. If they follow the pattern of Pella, which despite having Central College went for Santorum and not for Ron Paul, those areas could put significant numbers of voters into the Santorum camp.

With 30 days notice, one can switch parties in all closed primary states, such as FL. No notice is needed for the fifteen or so states with open primaries, such as SC, GA, and AL.

Too far to the right with an uncompromising position of “pro life” anti-abortion and we will lose. At least give the mother one month after the earliest date to know of her pregnancy to make a decision.

You post the words, pro-life, in sneer quotes, then go on to suggest that a mother be given 30 days after a positive pregnancy test to do what, exactly? Murder her unborn child?

You ought to get the ZOT for that statement.

How popular is Sanford NOW in SC? How will Newt’s similar personal morals go over there? If Newt were running with a (D) behind him that wouldn’t be a problem, but with an (R) I’d think there’d at least be second thoughts.

What a night.

Well by golly, if Fox news keeps things going their way, they should be able to get Obama’s reelection guaranteed, well before the general even begins.

Every single on of those Fox new bastards make me sick.
