Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.
Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.
We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.
My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:
Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1
Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.
The anchors sounded so phony talking about that “missing truck”.
2008 all over again.
“Mitt is far less offensive than Santorum I would think than Santorum.”
Iowa’s a purple state, and is not that far off from Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc.
The only state that Mitt is polling above 25 percent is Michigan.
A Santorum tie here, puts him around 15-18 percent nationally, maybe more than that. Given that he’s from PA, that shifts more votes to the rust belt for Santorum, so I’d call it a wash, everywhere but Michigan.
It’s in Clinton county. Romney is winning the county, barley. But that means nothing. The second to last precinct was in a county that Santorum barley won and it resulted in a net gain of votes for Romney.
We are dealing in a very small number of votes here.
Why are you posting this to me? I was knocking down the stupid “not a natural born citizen comments”
“HE WON ... AGAINST ALL ODDS, MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND THE HUGE ROMNEY MACHINE and BELTWAY ESTABLISHMENT! Sweet victory”
It’s as sweet as it gets. Conservatives should have sweet dreams tonight!
yes; sorry; was delayed on Fox. Just heard that. I need to get current; lol
Yes, the 2008 race was definitely insane. No way in hell should McCain have wound up as our nominee. Only some serious manipulation and rigging of the system could have produced that disastrous outcome.
And don't forget that it happened on the Dem side, too. It took a lot of crooked dealing to force Obama to the top. To this day, a lot of Dems believe that Obama stole the nomination from Hillary.
But we are a Dem county and oh yes alot of vote shenanigans go on in Keokuk.
Excuse me if I don’t trust the counting abilities of the leaders of a state party that refused to report any of the votes for one of the candidates four years ago.
Not according to CNN. They turned in the results, but somewhere the statewide republican say it is missing. CNN has women on who turned in the votes.
Sure sounds like Fox wants to brag about those 14 votes.
Oh, I expected this for sure. Occasionally the media would put out an article about him when he was hovering in single digits in Iowa. The libs would bash him in the comments section. You ought to read the Huff Post comments. They hate him with a ferocity similar to Bush Derangement Syndrome. They are about to rain the fires of hell down on this guy.
Go Rick!
Some not-so-funny business going on late tonight in the Iowa countryside, it seems.
A 14-vote Romney “landslide” featuring missing ballots. Of course.
The whole thing is rotten from the top to the bottom but I still refuse to give up.
Once again CNN whops FAUX on gritty details. This is wild.
The Santorum campaign should have said that they would wait for the official results. There is nothing obstructionist about that. This would have stymied tomorrow morning's media spin for Romney.
He doesn’t care about the money and I am willing to bet he is getting a lot of emails from co-religionists who are putting his name on the temple ‘prayer rolls’.
Pay lay ale, anyone?
Once again CNN whops FAUX on gritty details. This is wild.
