Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry failed to submit enough valid signatures to qualify for the Virginia primary ballot, state GOP officials said Friday evening.
Perrys campaign told state election officials it had submitted 11,911 signatures, but a Virginia Republican familiar with the situation said that the Texas governor did not submit the required 10,000.
Earlier Friday, the Republican Party of Virginia certified former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and Rep. Ron Paul (Tex.) to appear in the March ballot.
Four candidates Romney, Perry, Paul and former House speaker Newt Gingrich turned in thousands of signatures by the deadline. State party officials are spending the day certifying the signataries.
They have not examined Gingrichs signatures yet, but expected to do so by late Friday night.
Candidates had until 5 p.m. to collect 10,000 signatures from across the state, including 400 from each congressional district.
Republican presidential candidates Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman and Rick Santorum did not submit signatures, according to state GOP officials

“Perry should just drop out and endorse Bachman or Santorum...
...the guys a goof.”
Neither of them made the ballot in Va. either!
Some un named so and so is telling us 10% of the signatures are not legit?
what’s the big deal? VA is just one state out of 50. It’s not like the noination will be decided there. It doesnt even have that many delegates.
Texas only has the best economy in the Country, who would want that? If every state was run like Texas we would be out of this mess.
Merry Christmas
I don’t think it will make any difference to the Perry campaign. He should be out before the VA primary.
Yes Virginia, something does sound rotten here!
The article does not say they were disqualified.
The way I read it, it seems to imply that they did not submit 10,000 signatures, which means their guestimate was probably a result of many miscalculations by volunteers due to the last-second chaos.
This would explain the “blind eye” comments, since it would be easy to turn a blind eye to some bad signatures, but impossible to turn a blind eye to not having the required 10,000 signatures on your submitted sheets. Then you’d have to let everyone on.
I have done these things before, and 10%+ DQs is mighty high. It is most likely that they simply never got a correct count amid the hubbub.
I would bet 10-1 that they just didn’t get 10,000 signatures at all. Just my experience and IMHO.
I say is BS. Note that its “someone said” not “the Election Commission ruled”. Sounds more like some Mitt “insider” is spoutin off late on a Friday when there will be no official correct until Monday.
Sorry, They are saying 20% of the required signatures aren’t legit.
This smells fishy
11,911 < 10,000 ??
Friday night news bomb.
I actually feel sorry for this gentleman. After watching him for many months I have come to wonder if he is capable of putting on his shoes in the morning without assistance? Does he tie his own shoe laces? Can he feed himself? Is he potty trained?
>>Good enough for Texas but then what ain’t?<<
Oh man, was that really necessary? Texas is a bastion of conservatism and you go disses us like that.
Besides, if it weren’t for Texas, this country would be in negative GDP growth.
Come on in for the big win...will ya.
Yeller rain is just POed at having to eat mustard n vinegar bar-be-que.
One would think, but Newt has had these issues as well.

Oops!
Can Bachmann open her mouth without lying about others? can Newt or Cain get to bed with out cheating on the wife?
Can Ron Paul root for America?
Do you see how silly you sound?
