Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."
"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."
Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.
"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

When Sarah announced she wasn't running, Cain's numbers shot up, because her supporters chose him as the next best alternative.
They didn't flock to Perrry, whose numbers actually softened during the same period. Now that Cain is out, those who are looking for an outsider to carry forward, aren't likely to choose Perry for the same reasons they didn't flock to him before.
From what I see, it'll take a miracle for Perry to regain what he's lost in the race. He hasn't closed the sale with enough voters to really be a contender, and I highly doubt that he can build the sort of following necessary for him to clinch the nomination.
I agree with the individual you found on FaceBook. The candidate is either going to be Newt or Rommney and obama won’t even have to campaign.
Political outsiders wanting to really change the system are not welcome by media or the current insider players. Haven’t “earned” it, put their time in, played the game to be brash enough to say the system needs to be overhauled.
That said, the thing with this gal is weird. I understand most of the calls were her to him, begging for money. She was the one who did the odd hour calling. Almost all calls except one or two from him to her were him calling her back.
The weird part was not discussing it with the wife, about a non-family woman you’re financially helping out. That’s bizarre to me.
Go to her Facebook page and tell her that it's time for her to answer the call of duty:
This was Rove and Rommney. Too early for Axlerod.
Hopefully, for me, Cain's supporters will go to Michele. She forgot more about our Constitution than Barry learned in all of his law school years (if he actually like ever showed up for any classes). And she could out debate Barry with one high heel shoe on. (Barry can even wear both of his High Heels)
I really like Santorum too but he's gone absolutely no place.
(Yes she's my candidate and always was.)
I too am saddened, but he is a far stronger person than I to have endured all these baseless accusations which I am sure have taken their toll on his personal life...........
Halftime score:
Libtard MSM - 1
America - 0
We must draft, nominate and elect Sarah Palin president in the most crushing tidal wave of enthusiastic good judgment ever seen in the history of this nation.

YES!
I am going to write her in also...
“Having everyone rally around Michelle Bachmann at this point would be good.”
I won’t go as far as voting for obama, but, I will be a son of a bitch before I will vote for the Republican Establishment’s nominee. I will write in Sarah Palin.
This was a blow. I am so very sick and tired of defending people who won’t defend themselves. I think back to our Founding Fathers who pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to this unborn country in the labor pains of a fragile birth. I am sure that it was hard on their friends and families as well. I am sure that they were slandered and libeled by the establishment. How can we conservatives do any less? I am sorry that Mrs. Cain was upset by these lies. I am sorry the kids had to suffer the indignities of hearing their father and grandfather accused of immoral acts. But it is a momentary difficulty especially when compared to the tragedy of losing our country! We must set aside our personal lives at this time. Our country is being attacked. Our republic is being invaded! To arms!
But instead, we have leaders who surrender.
Yes, we must regroup and reload. It has been just a few hours since this announcement. I must mourn.
They got him. It was a lynching. I have no words... Oh, that’s not true. I have plenty, but if I posted them...
Yes, it is like a death. I am sorry for the loss of your kitty. I still mourn the death of my companion, Tippy, a dingo who died in 2004. No other dog has been like him.
I’ll evaluate what to do next. I think maybe I should go Galt.
The Leftists I know are sighing in relief. Cain was the one they feared. At least some of the allegations were true, or Cain would’ve endured. Hopefully Ms. Palin will be receptive to our overtures...
We should all go Galt. If we don’t, nothing will change.
C) He’s ending his campaign to avoid destroying his wife and children with FALSE allegations.
He did NOT DROP OUT!...
He SUSPENDED his CAMPAIGN!!!
Big difference.
Unfortunately, no one wants to face the possibility that he might not be as innocent in all of this as we’d like him to be.
Photos, hotel receipts, credit card print outs - anything other than a he said/she said type of deal. People in this country have abandoned the innocent until proven guilty premise in favor of trying someone in the court of public opinion - namely, the MSM. It may be true, however, I still want proof.
This doesn’t necessarily mean there was really something to the allegations. It seems at least as likely to me that Cain just got a taste of what it is to be a prominent Republican political figure and simply decided it wasn’t worth it anymore.
There were plenty of indications that, at least at the beginning, Cain was not really that serious about running for President. He didn’t seem to get serious until the polls indicated that he had a real shot at winning the nomination. Now that the nomination is seeming much less likely, he is probably less willing to pay the price than he was before.
