Newt Gingrich gets good and bad news from polls today, one taken nationally and the other in the key primary state of New Hampshire. The national poll taken by Quinnipiac shows him doubling his support in the last three weeks to jump into the lead, 26/22, over Mitt Romney. He bests Romney in a two-man race by a wider margin, but still hasnt gained much traction against Barack Obama:

“Former pizza magnate Herman Cain drops from the top spot with 30 percent in a November 2 national survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University to third place with 14 percent today. “
Way down to 14%.... ouch!

I wouldn't be so overconfident. A lot can happen in a year, and Obama holds a powerful advantage in being the incumbent.
When the incumbent President is nominated for re-election, he is 7-3 in elections since World War II, 13-5 since 1900, and 20-10 all time.
Of the three who have lost since World War II, all three had serious primary challengers. There is no indication that a strong primary challenge to Obama will materialize in the next couple months.
Now, there have been some strong arguments made as to why this election will break the trend (
see this powerpoint presentation by Bill McIntuff, for example). However, we're kidding outselves if we believe this will be anything but an uphill fight.

You maybe right...but then again you may not. Problem with you wishful thinking is nobody even imagined he would be where he is and his biggest negatives don't appear to be hurting him...yet. I know you don't like him but his climb to the top is truly amazing and he's done it pretty much by himself...nobody handles Newt. No one thought Cain would climb to the top tier. Perry rocketed to the top and fell back down.
It is absurd to surmise that the current front runners now will be the front runners in a month.

Nice try at shutting down the debate. This isn’t even a Newt thread, it is about polling.

Of the 14 Vice Presidents who later became President, only five did so without having their Presidents die in office or resign, and only three of them have done so since the ratification of the 12th Amendment.
The dynamics have changed only in tghe last few years. For most of the 19th and early 20th century, the VP spot was to provide geographical balance. That has mostly faded away (Clinton/Gore, McCain/Palin, Bush/Cheney as recent examples).
The VP is considered to have both Foreign Policy and Executive experience, he will be more well known than almost any Senator or Representative. Sometimes he can even be the focus of the election (Palin).
Nixon and Bush the Elder would not have gotten in without VP experience. Certainly Ford and LBJ would not have (neither was elected to first term, of course).
Dole, Mondale, Humphrey won nominations in large part because of VP experience.
Palin would not have been taken so serious had she not been a VP nominee.
And this is all in the last 50 years. All in all, having been VP is a heck of a lot better than not having been VP (Not to mention the fact that presidents DO get removed from office through death or resignation). Cheney also showed the office doesn't have to be primarily ceremonial.

Have a reading problem, the negatives have not changed, results will be the same as McCain. Try subtracting the poll number from 100.

I’m confident.
OBAMA’S GONE.

Gingrich already stated that he made a mistake supporting Scozzafava...where did you hear he would pick her? wanna bet? Relax... I was joking there. I put that up when I saw the reference to "someone in the North East." I KNOW he'd know better than to get within a country mile of Dede.

agree 100%.
The GOP was fooled by this media in 08 about McCain, they were fooled over the failed debt meetings as obama got what he wanted.
He got massive cuts to the military and kept his social spending and obamacare.
Of course what the media forget is that obama and the Dems when in power cut half a biLl to medicare but they get their pals AARP to run AD’s against the GOP.

I still think the unemployment rate will be the biggest factor in the outcome.

If I lived in New Hampshire, Id vote for Gingrich in order to defeat Romney. If I lived in the Carolinas, Id vote for Cain to defeat Gingrich.

You’re absolutely right; the comment on #7 wasn’t what I thought was a polling debate either. Sounds like a few sociology degrees in here, dirtboy.
