Gingrich Over Romney 26-22 in NEW Quinnipac Poll
Hot Air ^ | 11/22/2012 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 11/22/2011 6:29:07 AM PST by katiedidit1

Newt Gingrich gets good and bad news from polls today, one taken nationally and the other in the key primary state of New Hampshire. The national poll taken by Quinnipiac shows him doubling his support in the last three weeks to jump into the lead, 26/22, over Mitt Romney. He bests Romney in a two-man race by a wider margin, but still hasn’t gained much traction against Barack Obama:

Isn't she a first-term governor?

Shades of 2008.

I agree. Bachmann would be as well.

I sincerely doubt Romney will make the same mistake if he ends up being the nominee.

>> Newt is U-Haul truck, and it’s full of baggage <<

Good image!

But you forgot to mention that the U-haul also contains an unstable IED, a ticking time bomb, a/k/a Newt's big and occasionally uncontrollable mouth.

This bomb may go off during the primary season, or it may go off after Newt gets the GOP nomination, virtually guaranteeing that Newt's opponent will beat him handily.

Moreover, I predict that whether the explosion occurs in the pre- or in the post-primary season, the majority of today's hot-to-trot Newt-boosters will be asking themselves:

“What on Earth was I thinking? Why did I ever fall for this reprobate’s overblown verbiage? Why in the name of Creation did I ever support him?”

You need to find a thread that the candidate you support is on. Hopefully it’s this website, but can’t tell from your postings.

The KEY to defeating Romney is to wait until the last poll in each state before that state’s primary and identify the conservative candidate with either the largest lead on Romney, or the closest to him in the polls, and then have ALL conservatives in that state unite behind that candidate to insure a Romney defeat.

Come convention time, the conservatives will have the majority of the delegates and can work a backroom deal for the top two conservatives to unite on a GOP ticket - thereby freezing Romney and the establishment OUT.

All the things you listed have been public knowledge for weeks and in some cases years and yet here he is rising is all polls and leading in some. Fact is it appears a lot of people have taken a liking to his message. I understand you may not agree but it is an election not a coronation.

The Freddie allegations are pretty new. And he would have us believe that he has never lobbied - period. Bullcrap.

Yeah, it is a very important election, and IMO the most pressing need is to try and alter the course of our federal government. I don't see a consummate insider as the person to fight that cultural mindset - that DC can do whatever it wants to. Newt has shown precious little inclination to believe in limits on federal power.

If Bachmann drops out and endorses Romney it will have minimal impact on the polls, but it will be the death of Michelles Bachmann’s political career. Her sucking up to Romney is well known. That’s one of the key reasons she’s languishing in the polls. Conservatives are wise to her now. Like Mitt, we do not trust her.

Can you imagine her showing up at Tea Party rallies and proclaiming “Mitt’s the Man!” She’d rightfully get run out of there on a rail.

Nikki Haley can stay right where she is, thanks. If she joins Slick Willard’s failure train, she’ll lose every ounce of respect I have for her, which is quite a bit at the current time.

Pretty good analogy for Newt.

It’s the reason I’m staying agnostic about him. I’ll need to see Newt at least make it past Iowa without shooting himself in the foot before I’ll consider going out on a limb for him.

I agree. Besides, I’m not sure why someone who could hold an important office for another seven years would ever give that up to run for an inherently unimportant office.

Besides being “not worth a bucket of warm piss” in John Nance Garner’s immortal words, the Vice Presidency is grossly overrated as a stepping stone to the Presidency. Of the 14 Vice Presidents who later became President, only five did so without having their Presidents die in office or resign, and only three of them have done so since the ratification of the 12th Amendment.

Before Freepers wish for their favorite candidates to run for Vice President assuming that they’ll have the inside track to the top job, they should brush up on their history.

We conservatives need a reality check every once in a while. Fact: We don.t have enough votes to force a candidate. The independents chose presidents so we have to work within that frame work, and before you get excited I don't like it any better than you do.The top three candidate right now are Newt, Mitt and Paul Newt has been steadily climbing from 2% to the present, Mitt and Paul have stayed pretty much where they are. Most of the rest have come and gone or are not going to show at all. Times wasting : It appears these are the choices.Sorry but reality is what it is.

Fact: We don.t have enough votes to force a candidate.

Cripes, given the polling history of the last few months, in four weeks Newt could be right back down in single digits. Nothing is inevitable at this point.

I think Newt is the wrong answer at this point to the question Who is the best choice for anti-Romney - for the conservative reasons I have given. I feel no compunction to pretend otherwise. If Newt emerges as the lead anti-Romney after a three or four caucuses and primaries, I will support him over Mitt. But that point has not been reached yet.

Vice presidents get elected when they follow a popular president. Most of the time they don’t get reelected becuase they are to stupid to continue a successful reign...i.e. Geo. H.W. Bush!!!

You maybe right...but then again you may not. Problem with you wishful thinking is nobody even imagined he would be where he is and his biggest negatives don't appear to be hurting him...yet. I know you don't like him but his climb to the top is truly amazing and he's done it pretty much by himself...nobody handles Newt.

I do not believe that...oh ye of little faith. When we select our candidate...the grassroots voters will come from the rural areas, the tea party folks will unite and Obama will go down.
