Black Friday is just another racial term to keep the working class stiff down.

Don’t they realize that the having the Diversity Crowd/Herd doing their trampling at midnight is just going to worsen the problem?

Retailers would give up this practice if people stayed home. There are people who decry these outrageous hours, but they are often first in line when the store opens.

I’ve been saying for years on this forum. The war on Thanksgiving far outpaces the war on Christmas.

Many retailers rely on the Christmas season to make their entire year of operation worthwhile.

In a depressed economy it's more difficult and the retail consumer becomes much more valuable, and they pull out all the stops to entice 'em into the stores.

Employees are loaded with the hours deemed necessary to accomplish that goal.

I’m an old traditionalist on black friday, that’s put up the decorations day. Am planning on going to a museum after the decor is up, eating lunch at the cafe. But while I don’t do the crazy shopping thing I’ve got no problem with stores trying to under cut each other. That’s what capitalism is, competition for the pennies. While I’m sure it stinks for the employees that’s why they’re entry level jobs, you’re supposed to aspire to something better. And really Christmas seasons stinks for low end retail employees anyway, the 45 minute tape loop of bad Christmas music they will have memorized every note of after 2 shifts makes sure of that.

I managed in retail many moons ago. Mon thru Fri we opened at 10am, closed at 9pm.
On weekends we closed at 6pm Saturdays and stayed closed on Sundays and holidays.
This started changing in the mid 70s and that was it for me. New career.

And moreover, critics assert, the earlier opening times are encroaching too much on a holiday that should be reserved for family – not for shopping.

When the females in my family get together, one of their favorite family things they like to do, together, is shop.

Having been in business for a long time, if retailers thought customers would show up on Thanksgiving they would be open. Capitalism works it is not kind, fair, benevolent or anything else. Black Friday is all about which shark eats fastest and hardest when the baby seals hit the water. The seals have to swim and the sharks got to eat. Merry Christmas!

I now ALWAYS go for an extended day hike with my dog on Friday - rain or shine.

My shopping is done, and mostly via internet shopping. I hate the mall and all the grabby nasty people.

Thanksgiving afternoon and the rest of that weekend is for decorating and wrapping and chilling with the family.

I worked in retail a lot when I was younger. I never saw it as a career. The hours suck.

As these people are learning. :-D

I worked a job for 25 years where the only guaranteed holiday was when it fell on your day off, and days off rotated each week. Weekends off only came around every fifth and sixth week. If you needed a specific day off, you were encouraged to swap your shift with a co-worker. Of course you’d have to pay them back. When I had 23 years under my belt, I was stuck working 16 hours straight on Christmas Day. Having to work double shifts, weekends, and holidays was a part of the paycheck. If you didn’t want to do it, you found another career. How many holidays and family celebrations have the men and woman of our armed forces missed over the years. These people should be ashamed of themselves, and be grateful they at least have a job.

I hated my college job at Tar-jay during this time.

Had to be there at 5AM till 2 the day after Thanksgiving just to be trampled, cursed at, and berated by a bunch of future broke people loading up on crap from China.

I feel sorry for those workers that are there today. It is no fun at all.

It’s safer to go to an “Occupy” protest than it is to shop on Black Friday.

Retail employees complaining about working on the most profitable day of the year is like accountants complaining about missing out on the early April flowers.
