I’m an old traditionalist on black friday, that’s put up the decorations day. Am planning on going to a museum after the decor is up, eating lunch at the cafe. But while I don’t do the crazy shopping thing I’ve got no problem with stores trying to under cut each other. That’s what capitalism is, competition for the pennies. While I’m sure it stinks for the employees that’s why they’re entry level jobs, you’re supposed to aspire to something better. And really Christmas seasons stinks for low end retail employees anyway, the 45 minute tape loop of bad Christmas music they will have memorized every note of after 2 shifts makes sure of that.
Being a zookeeper and earning a little extra cash beat the hell out of having a Thanksgiving dinner alone at the local Denny's.
Thats what capitalism is, competition for the pennies. While Im sure it stinks for the employees thats why theyre entry level jobs, youre supposed to aspire to something better. And really Christmas seasons stinks for low end retail employees anyway....

Dittoes. And I wonder how many millions of un-employed workers would like to take their place?
I worked the night shift at W-M for three years. When some of the younger guys talked of making it a career path, I tried to talk them out of it. Retail is a crap trade even in good times. I told them the only ones working at W-M or any other such type of store should be us old retired beer-money fuds or young guys working to pay for a trade school or a college degree. The lifers didn't like to hear that. Went back last week and didn't recognize a soul - day or night shift. Either the kids took heed or got fed up with the B/S.
