The McRib makes a McComeback
Associated Press ^ | October 24, 2011

The McRib, the pork sandwich that likes to play hard to get, is coming back.

McDonald's plans to announce Monday that the sandwich, usually available only when individual restaurants feel like making it, will be sold at all U.S. locations through Nov. 14.

They need to offer a 4 oz hardwood smoked bacon only sandwich.

Yum, with lots of mayo! And will that come with FFs?

I have a different theory about McDonalds. You see, the food isn't good enough to justify the massive global presence. I mean, they are everywhere. So if it's not for the food, what? I think I know. It's a secret government plot. Inside the basement of every McDonalds is a crack squad of Navy SEALS. If the word is given (i.e. "Take down France!") those SEALs emerge and quickly and efficiently get the job done. Governments know this, so they don't really mess with the US unless they are the few that have no significant McDonalds presence. For example, Iran, Cuba, Libya, etc.

It's just a crackpot theory I made up but now that I've voiced it I expect Michael Moore to run with it.

I ate a McRib some years ago. I liked it. But now I’m never going to buy one ever again.

I worked for Mc Donald's years ago when the Mc Rib was developed. It started out as a special that was rolled out into the northeast states..... About 1989 I think... It was a major hit. What makes the sandwich is the special BBQ sauce which was made by the people who make Bulls Eye products. The meat paddy is 100% pork with gulten and smoke flavoring. There is a balance of meat, fat, and grizzle that is a highly kept secret.
Mc Donalds decided to roll it out at the beginning of the fall season every year. The McRib is expensive to produce and is a product that is used to draw in customers. I love these sandwiches and look forward every fall when they are rolled out. McRib... large fry... medium Coke... God of the Gods!

And Foie Gras is nothing but fatted goose liver, where they force the goose to eat corn in a sick an disgusting way...

You have bought the leftist lies. I presume you don’t eat veal, because a lefty took a picture of a calf in a tiny pen 50 years ago?

The geese come running at feeding time.

And it is one of the most delicious foods on earth. Equivalent to “meat-flavored butter.”

(Oh, crap! I forgot. I’m not supposed to admit liking anything common. How “elite incorrect” of me!)

Actually, the snobbery around here usually goes the other way. See post 33.

Just in time for Ramadan! Wo0t!

Best sandwich McDs ever made, if they would only nix the pickle. Even when you remove it, it leaves a nasty pickle aftertaste in the BBQ sauce.

McDonalds is a very well run company...The improvement of their stock price, along with the healthy dividend they pay out, reflect this.

I'll buy their stock then, but I'll never eat there!

Normally I don't side with the moonbats but with respect to McDonalds (and fast food restaurants in general), I agree that this is not a good way to eat. Fast Food franchising is a very low margin business and thus they are always looking for ways to save costs in their supply chain. This typically means processing the food centrally and then freezing it for months, or even years, before it is delivered to restaurants where it is either re-heated or re-constituted (or both).

This just can't be healthy!

Now McDonalds wasn't always that way. I remember going to them as a child in the 1960s and they made their burgers from fresh beef and the milk shakes were real! In fact, that's how Ray Kroc first got involved in the business, he would sell them milkshake mixers as they made the shakes onsite with real ingredients. These days, the "milk shake" comes out of giant machines - just not the same.

That said, McDonalds is a very well run business so by all means, own their stock. Did you know that most of McDonalds profits come from real estate? The corporation basically buys the land, builds the restaurant and then leases it back to the franchisee. That is why most McDonalds have been in the same location for 30-40 years. The corporation owns the land/buildings free and clear and makes a bundle of money on the leases.

My mother and ex-stepfather both used to work in McDonald's corporate HQ, so I'll confirm what you say. What I was told was that McDonald's isn't a hamburger business, it's a real estate business. The day-to-day work at corporate is about the acquisition of real estate. Once they have the land, the rest is just a highly refined system to make money off of it.

Regarding their stock price, McDonald's always does well in down times. Sales go up as consumers cut their food budget and customer service improves as they get a better pool of potential employees to choose from.

One of my top 10 favorite episodes of The Simpsons.

McRibs always remind me of the show "King of Queens."

I don’t watch TV any more, so all I hear are radio ads. They all seem to feature young loser OWS-living-in-parent’s-basement types who revel in the $1 menu. I’m lovin’ it!

Hate to tell ya, but Ramadan already passed.

I tried a McRib just out of curiosity and I found it vile. The BBQ sauce tasted like ketchup that someone sprinkled with low-grade tabasco sauce. The meat tasted like a cross between SPAM and that mystery meat high school cafeterias served in the 70’s.

I’ll eat almost anything on the McD menu, but not that (Or the McGriddle breakfast sandwiches. Maple flavor in a bun? Please.)

To me, the McRib™ is the nastiest single item of fast food in existence, and that covers a lot of territory.

The oddly spongey, vaguely meat-like substance pressed into a form to resemble bone-in ribs is disgusting enough, but the sticky-sweet sauce is what takes it to a new level of nastiness. The nutritional data reveals it to contain 11 grams of sugar. That's almost a tablespoon (1 tsp. of sugar = 4 grams; 1 tbsp. = 3 tsp.)! Clearly, this candied pork product was dreamed up by a bunch of sugar-crazed six-year-olds.

Every time something is posted on FR about fast foods, the usual boo-birds come to life for a few minutes, slouching to their computers to proclaim all the food is really dog and maggot meat and all sauces are pond slime.

There's something really sick about their obsessions. They comment on things they know nothing, nada about...just their own particular tastes and prejudices.

A gal I was confirmed with and her husband own one of the plants supplying meat to MacDonald's. Believe me, these two conservative, Missouri Synod Lutherans and middle-west natives run a clean, quality plant with high standards. They would have it no other way.

BTW, actually I only patronize MacDonalds when they have the rib sandwich. I love 'em. I prefer BK for a tasty lunch of a Whopper Jr. and a chocolate shake. Yum, Yum.

I guess all this makes me a gun-totin', bible-clutching yahoo....oh, yeah.

Something wrong with a rib meat sandwich that has air pockets in the meat when you take a bite from it.

You nailed it. Years ago I tried one out, thinking it might vaguely resemble some North Carolina ribs (more fool I). The damn thing tasted like they took breakfast sausage and molded the "ribs". Your description exactly fits this crap.
