Bill Maher may be anti-religion, but he's got faith in one thing: Herman Cain won't be the the 2012 Republican Presidential nominee.
Maher bet CNBC correspondent Michele Caruso-Cabrera $1 million that Cain won't earn the GOP nomination, and shook hands on the wager during Friday night's taping of his HBO political comedy show Real Time with Bill Maher.
Caruso-Cabrera was arguing that Cain's "incredible likeability factor" could carry him all the way when, Maher snarked back that he'd put a million dollars down against her one dollar that Cain won't win the nomination because Republicans can't deal with a non-white candidate.

I think that Perry has the experience and money to run past Cain - but you are right - Cain has forced others to put this on the table. I would absolutely love a Perry/Cain ticket - or a Perry/Gingrich ticket. This to me, would be the best of worlds. I would also like a Perry/West ticket.
Yes, I have.
Just trying to get you slow down a little on this Cain thing.
Think about this. Cain’s mentor is Alan Greenspan. Cain is part and parcel of the system that got us into the fix we are in. Cain is old. He will not live the 9-9-9 nightmare he wants the next generation to live. Cain helped get us into the current nightmare. Cain will happily administer the millions of federal government employees, and government beneficiaries, who are living off the production of the real taxpayers, for his 4 or 8 years. Cain will gladly spread the wealth around the way he and his cronies see fit, and distribute the trillions of dollars in revenue his “9-9-9” plan will generate.
Cain talks the conservative line, but it amazes me that so many Freepers can’t separate what they want to believe about the guy from the reality of what he has done and what he will do.
...It seems to me that a 9% sales tax would hurt retirees....
If something isnt done soone retirees will have no Social Security or Medicare or it wil be reduced more than 9%. Are you ok with that?
Do you have children do you know people younger than you? How about helping them get jobs and prosper, is that worth anything to you? How does another decade or so of 18% unemployment sound to you? (real unemployment not govt lies)
How about taking the power that Congress uses to give rewards and take away tax breaks to special interest groups in return for corrupt dollars, would you like to eliminate that and what is that worth?
I see no factual basis for your assertions.
I also don’t see how any of the objections you stated go to the efficacy of the 999 plan to fix our economy, limit government, increase freedom.
You’re talking short term, and that may very well hold true for that period. However, over the long term the market will ‘force’ employers to adjust their wages.
If we are looking just to satisfy the next couple of years, let’s just lower the rates using the current system. That can be accomplished with one session of Congress and the effects will be immeadiate.
However, if we are looking to create a better economy for our children and grandchildren, then something big and simple needs to be put into place, and the 999 plan does that.
Whether I like Perry or not, my call is that he probably won’t recover from his slump. Whole bunch of reasons, some related to him, some “just the way it goes.”
But I’m all for all these guys stepping up. Well, no. Not Romney! I wish he’d go away.
I’m just really juiced that we are actually having a national conversation, which will only grow larger, about massive tax reform.
Hmm what nightmare? What does the next generation have to look forward to besides higher taxes high unemployment lower wages and a continuing corrupt Congress that to me is the nightmare that Cain 9-9-9 and the Fair Tax can change.
Take the non-productive tax preparation industry and reduce corporate taxes and special interest loopholes out of the equation and the economy will leap forward.
“It seems to me that a 9% sales tax would hurt retirees.”
Seniors are already paying that 9%. It’s hidden in the present tax code. All National Sale tax is take that hidden percentage tax out of darkness into the light. I will say this A National Sale Tax can only work at POS on the end user of goods and services. Example: A corporation buys a piece of equipment to produce a product. The corporation pays a National Sale Tax on that equipment. They are the end user of that product. That corporation sells product to me, I’m the end user of that product, I pay National Sale tax on that product. The raw material used by the corporation to make the product is not subject to National Sale Tax. $.45 to $.51 out of very $ you spend goes to pay for taxes and fees (Local+State+Federal). If you want smaller more efficient effective Government, then put the cost of government on the sales receipt at the POS.
How many HBO poobahs did he have to deepthroat to get that?
Didn't get it on talent that's for sure.
“Take the non-productive tax preparation industry and reduce corporate taxes and special interest loopholes out of the equation and the economy will leap forward.”
And the 999 plan will not do either of the three things you claim it will.
It just gives the federal government more revenue streams.
> It seems to me that a 9% sales tax would hurt retirees.
I’m 64.
It will affect me only if I buy big-ticket items. If I have the money to buy the big-ticket items, the 9% is statistical noise.
Consider.
A $100 item will cost $109.
A $1000 item will cost $1090.
Not really a big deal.
Much better than the hidden tax of the current runaway inflation, where the government is printing money almost as fast as they can spend it.
Cain is part and parcel of the system that got us into the fix we are in.
Cain is old.
Cain helped get us into the current nightmare.
Cain will gladly spread the wealth around...
If you support someone else, fine. Make your case.
But to spew delusions is not helping your cause.
I have been following Cain for many months. He is the most knowledgeable candidate on the economy and business there is. He is the real deal. By not meeting your need for a Christ like candidate you are exhibiting tunnel vision that prohibits the larger view.
your apparent like for romney is a bad choice. he is a Massachusetts yankee liberal of the worst sort.

999 does NOTHING to reduce the size and scope of the Federal Government. After reading your posts I realize that you, like JAG, like Cain, do not want the role of the Federal Government in your life reduced at all.
...And the 999 plan will not do either of the three things you claim it will.....
How about not misquoting me? How about backing up your “nightmare” statement?

First of all even now on most big ticket items you can get the seller to ‘eat’ the sales tax. Second if you have reduced the home builder’s tax burden from 30% to 9% it would be a lot easier to get them to do that. Lastly the plan isn’t written in ‘stone’ yet. Like any plan it will need tweaking.
So tell us of those running who has the best plan in your opinion and tell us why it’s the best plan.
I have a daughter. I more than helped her get a job. I, financially and otherwise, helped her start her own business and she is prospering! Because her business requires her to be on the road constantly, I take care of her three children, sometimes for weeks on end. I also hire my semi-employed neighbor, who is a welder by trade, to do all the handyman work around my property. I also mind his kids, without conpensation, when he does get a welding job. Am I doing enough to satisfy you?
I still think a 9% sales tax will hurt retirees.
Yes, I understand that. Call me a skeptic, but I don't believe that when the product finally gets to me, that the price will be lowered. Not only will I still be paying $3.99 for a gallon of milk but I'll have to pay 9% tax on that gallon.
That said, I am a Herman Cain supporter.
