“It seems to me that a 9% sales tax would hurt retirees.”
Seniors are already paying that 9%. It’s hidden in the present tax code. All National Sale tax is take that hidden percentage tax out of darkness into the light. I will say this A National Sale Tax can only work at POS on the end user of goods and services. Example: A corporation buys a piece of equipment to produce a product. The corporation pays a National Sale Tax on that equipment. They are the end user of that product. That corporation sells product to me, I’m the end user of that product, I pay National Sale tax on that product. The raw material used by the corporation to make the product is not subject to National Sale Tax. $.45 to $.51 out of very $ you spend goes to pay for taxes and fees (Local+State+Federal). If you want smaller more efficient effective Government, then put the cost of government on the sales receipt at the POS.
Yes, I understand that. Call me a skeptic, but I don't believe that when the product finally gets to me, that the price will be lowered. Not only will I still be paying $3.99 for a gallon of milk but I'll have to pay 9% tax on that gallon.
That said, I am a Herman Cain supporter.
