A passing motorist on Organ Church Road called 911 Monday morning after seeing what appeared to be a bloody body pinned under a lawn mower.
But authorities quickly learned that the body was actually a graphic Halloween decoration placed near the road by a neighbor.
It wasnt too long after we dispatched a call that we found out it was a Halloween decoration, said 911 center shift supervisor Autumn Davis.
The attention-grabbing gag, set up in the yard at 3475 Organ Church Road near Rockwell, wasnt surrounded by any other Halloween decorations on Monday. The set-up depicts a body with bloodstained jeans trapped under the blades of a riding lawn mower, with a can of beer in its hand.
Chris Deaton, the man behind the mower, said this is his second year with the decoration, and said he did it because it got great reviews last year.
Its cool for a Halloween ornament, he said.
Deaton said he hadnt been contacted by authorities or passing motorists, but he didnt think the decoration was offending anyone.
He got the idea from someone elses yard, Deaton said, while traveling to the beach one year.
Last year, Deaton kept the mower closer to the house, so only those on his driveway could see it.
This year, though, he wanted to try it closer to the road.
Deaton said he hasnt put any other Halloween decorations around the mower because he figures its going to get stolen and he doesnt want anything else taken.
Thats the only thing its good for, Deaton said about the mower, which no longer has a working motor in it.
Its probably going to be stolen and sold for scrap metal, he said.
I’m with you. Everyone in town knows we try to make our house the scariest, so they all bring their kids. We don’t do anything ‘graphic’. Fog coming out a caldron with skulls in it and spooky music. A skeletal guy in the darkened 2nd floor window with a cape and flowing robes and a strobe light. A trash can that has a hydraulic monster that jumps up when I hit the button. But the thing the kids like most is my husband comes from around the back of the house to chase them away in his gorilla suit. They know it’s coming and still get scared. And the times he couldn’t do it, they were disappointed and asked about it. Last year we really freaked them out, because we had TWO gorillas. The next morning I have to go out and pick up all the spilled candy from the kids running away. LOL!
What is your hang up with sex? It has nothing to do with Halloween. It had nothing to do with the article posted. What it is is a massive straw man built around your own obsession. For God’s sake man, get a grip.
one is predominantly considered “scary” and one just obscene.
the latter probably also has local and/or state obscenity laws against it unless you’re in San Francisco.
Oh, I agree. If it was me, I would figure if one person thought it was real then more would. Why burden law enforcement with coming to the house repeatedly. People who want to avoid Halloween for religious reasons can go to their Church for a “Harvest” celebration or simply not answer their door to trick or treaters. I know several religions do that and I support their choice and faith. However, I wish they would support a person’s definition of fun by hanging up a ghost or allowing their kids to trick or treat.
Halloween IMHO is not satanic. A person is satanic in their actions and deeds. More satanism occurs everyday... in ONE day at the local abortion clinic than in any Halloween display. A clinic with painted white walls and gleaming floors contains more evil than any holiday prop. (may be a side note but that is how I feel)
“Everyone in town knows we try to make our house the scariest...”
Those who want a good scare, come to your house. Those who object can stay home or go to another house. I don’t think anyone should be allowed to “object” to your spooky music or your gorilla. (wish I lived near you... we’d come!)
I’m amazed at the number of posters in favor of censoring this.
Did somebody change the web site to Uptight-Stick-In-The-Mud-God-Forbid-Someone-Have-Fun Republic while I wasn’t looking?
It’s my birthday
It was fun as a child
Our local Wally World has had rows upon rows of candy and 'decorations' up since Labor Day......and yesterday, I saw that one end of the store is all Christmas gear.
This looks somewhat familiar ping.
You know what, Texas_Mrs? You make kids happy. You make their Halloween fun and exciting. You are probably making a lot of adults laugh with joy, too! That’s what life is about... having some laughter and enjoying some things on occasion. Without it, what a boring existence. You have some great FUN this Halloween!
I agree. And as a Roman Catholic of Irish descent I fully understand the origins and meaning of Halloween. Dressing up to scare the Devil? I’m in!
It’s a fun holiday. Each to their own. I just don’t like censorship no matter the source.
I consider blood and guts displays to be completely inappropriate for one's front yard - just as I would consider a display of graphic sex to be inappropriate.
Again, I would not advocate government interference. But if I were a neighbor of this numbskull, I'd be getting a few others in the neighborhood to go and pay him a visit. (No, I'm not talking about getting violent.)
I’m Catholic of Irish descent... we’re twins from a different Mother! Censorship/regulations/restrictions start “small” and grow into a big consuming monster. I believe the ancient Celtics carved faces into turnips to scare away evil. Today, we use pumpkins. (that is far better since carving a turnip could prove dangerous!!! LOL)
I would too, except for Halloween and deer season.
It’s not that difficult if you have a chainsaw.
You are hysterical, Trisham!
:)
See post #20........It sure must suck being one of your neighbors.
I’ll ask you again, are you opposed to santa and frosty the snowman lawn ornaments during December? And how about your neighbor’s nativity scene, does that piss you off too?
