"Of all the Republican candidates he's the one who stands out the most on wanting to deal with this issue and put it to bed and resolve the problems," said Jim Gilchrist, co-founder of the Minutemen Project, a Tea Party-aligned activist group that monitors activity along the U.S.-Mexico border.

11 years as governor and yet Texas is one of three states with an INCREASE in the number of illegals.

I would guess that Perry has been responsible for the detainment of more illegal aliens than everyone on that stage combined.

His aides believe that his decade of experience as a border-state governor bolsters his credibility on immigration and border security.

Oh, and that's why Texas is literally drowning in a sea of illegal aliens Mr Perry? Boy howdy, there seems to be no limit to how incredulous this political animal can become. Maybe they do grow some things in Texas bigger than life like Gov Perry's lies on illegal immigration.

“His aides believe that his decade of experience as a border-state governor bolsters his credibility on immigration and border security.”

:::::::

This is the kind of statement that enrages people. It is a useless statement, it means nothing, and makes no representation of REALITY. The reality is: the border is still open, they flood in every day, when they get here, into Texas, they get pandered to, so what has Perry done other than crow about spending lots of taxpayer money on the border and on college tuitions for ILLEGAL invaders of America??? Pure bull excrement!!! Keep tap-dancing Perry. You have RINO written all over you, and it won’t come off.

Pay no attention to that 10 year Border State Governor, the one with a 1200 mile problem he has to wrestle with every day, with the Feds tying his hands while their hands are busy dropping the ball. He doesn’t have anything to offer on dealing with the subject of illegal immigration, or with the fallout on his state from the Feds dereliction. He doesn’t know anything or care about any of it. Pay no attention, pay no attention. Let’s listen to Mitt Romney, Chris Christie and...well, you know, anybody else but RP. /sarc

“Governor Perry is desperate to shift attention away from his liberal policies that encourage illegal immigration,” Romney spokesman Ryan Williams said.

What Perry has done.

He said he vetoed a Texas bill that would have given illegal immigrants driver’s licenses, helped pass a bill requiring voter identification at the polls, spent $400 million on security measures to help secure the state’s border with Mexico, and strongly opposed granting amnesty to people who illegally entered the United States.

Where's the liberal record? Do we really want another northeast blue blood Pub as our nominee?

With Perry I'm confident he will listen to the conservatives in the House and Senate and push that agenda. With Romney I am equally confident that he will find a way to make excuses why he can't pursue that agenda.

How can this be ?
Herman Cain said he couldn’t vote for Perry in the general because
he was “ soft “ on immigration.
Mitt says he’s a liberal on immigration.
If Perry had worded his response differently and highlighted again and
again and again what he has done to combat illegal immigration-
his foes ,
ie: the other potential nominees and the FOX News anchors
wouldn’t have been able
to Alinsky him.

I look forward to Perry's clear, detailed, and persuaisive explanation of these accomplishments at the next debate.

But I'll settle for another chance to laugh at him.

E-Verify and az style laws, along with fence, would make a difference.

Perry opposes common sense approaches to combat illegals.

You cannot fix the illegal immigration problem without repairing welfare. I am voting for the person who is experienced in jobs growth. Texas economy is far more positive than most states in the country. Perry is a very popular governor as well, so he must have done something right? Texans do not want to lose Perry. I vote for experience in the above First Factor--an environment where jobs will grow which means less government interference, regulations etc. Maine is seeing this for the first time in decades--it works.

Herman Cain knows about rebuilding an economy and is well spoken, intelligent; already a leader or he would not be in the "play-offs". I really don't what Cristie has really achieved to better NJ, like other newly elected Republican governors.

Letterman has already started with the "fat" jokes saying Christy will need to choose a Secretary of Cake. But how's the abs thingy photoshoot in Hawaii working for ya, one might reply? Clinton did not take care of his health til he was forced to, Bush is still mountain biking.

However, when you have a vibrant economy you will have more service jobs as there is more money to spend..you know the jobs Americans won't do because they can make out better on welfare programs.

The government hasn't won the war on drugs which impairs job performance--if Americans want to be users, then they in many cases they blindly support terror.

Illegal immigration bothers me on the health factor mostly..TB, other diseases once thought eradicated, now reappearing.

A "Useful" education is also needed to be job worthy.

Palin will not run. People need to realize anyone can beat Obama--there is no such thing as a perfect candidate, so Republicans need to relax.

If Perry is so tough on border security.... as he proclaims, then why didn’t he do the following:

(1.)... Demand that Texas House Speaker Joe Straus “fast track” the sanctuary city bill through committee process to a house vote?

(2.)... Propose his own Arizona style immigration bill? He hid while Texas Reps Debbie Riddle and Leo Berman’s very tough immigration bills died in committee process.

Perry is a master at looking like he’s doing a lot on border security while ensuring that his big $$$$ GOP donors
have a steady supply of cheap labor illegals.

Jan Brewer ought to return his nuts. She’s carrying them around in her purse.

Perry is partially if not almost entirely responsible for the illegals in his state for the last 10 years.

The federal government is responsible for border security, but states can make it less hospitable for illegals, and Texas has been a hospitable state for illegals under both Bush and Perry, which is why it has massive amounts of illegals in the state and has turned the demographics of the state upside down.

Texas is more like California than it is like Arizona.

And the reason illegals love California is because California liberals have the welcome mat open for them.

If California was more like Arizona, it wouldn’t be as bad as it is now, same goes for Texas.

I don’t trust Perry on illegals. I think his instincts are to be like Bush and McCain, which is to supplicate to Mexicans and their illegal invasion.

I bet Perry’s first major policy push would be for amnesty.

I don’t say this because I hate Perry, but his record speaks for itself.

If we are going to elect another Bush like candidate for amnesty, we might as well elect Jeb, at least he is smart and can communicate in complete sentences.

He said he vetoed a Texas bill that would have given illegal immigrants driver's licenses,

But he'll give you in-state tuition!

helped pass a bill requiring voter identification at the polls,

So you can be college-educated, with no voting rights, and no ability to drive to work... to a job you shouldn't have as an illegal immigrant!

spent $400 million on security measures to help secure the state’s border with Mexico,

While enticing more illegal immigrants with... in-state tuition!

and strongly opposed granting amnesty to people who illegally entered the United States.

No amnesty, but you can go to college, with in-state tuition!

Perry claims his "Texas Dream Act" is not the same as the "Federal Dream Act" because it's a "states rights issue" for Texas.

Then Perry turns around and says Mitt Romney's "Massachussetts Health Care" is the same as the "Federal Health Care" and has nothing to do with states rights. The Texas two-step us dumb Yankees just don't git?
