You conduct polls to shape public opinion, not measure it.

It's the internal polls that matter, and we don't get to see those.

Why don't they conduct the same type of poll for Paul or Gingrich or Huckabee or Romney or the RINO cowboy?

Because they'd get the same results, that's why.

But single out Sarah, and it looks like it means something.

The longer she delays announcing her candidacy, the longer she keeps the ruling-class RINOs, state-controlled media, DemocRAT and Republican opponents, etc. in complete and total disarray.

Why should she give up her strategic advantage?

To make it "fair" for the RINOs and 'Rats?

Palin is coming, and the Tea Party is coming with her.

ineluctable

Going by this, we shouldn’t allow primaries to be held. Just have some poll a year and ahalf out and then cut right to the establishment candidate.

Yup, same old same old will save the country. Go fo the status quo! Don’t stick your head up once you’ve been slimed by the left, just crawl in a hole and die. Don’t fight on, just succumb! That’s the good old American spirit, give up and die so your betters can make decisions for you.

Resistance is futile!

I am inspired by your post! I think I’ll just go kill myself, so much easier than bucking the tide.

I wish more people would take a look at Buddy Roemer, former governor of Louisiana, and US Congressman. Got into trouble by opposing the Red River Navigation Project which is probably the kind of government boondogle that many of us would be against. Recently gave a really interesting speach/history lesson on the role of tarrifs in US prosperity, with definite comments regarding China and our debt. He has years of business experience, founded two banks, and has done business in person in China.

Palin has had two years to fix her very high negatives among the broader GOP, to say nothing of the broader electorate. It hasn't happened.

Announcing for POTUS won't make it happen by magic either...though it may extend the shelf life of brand Palin a bit.

Draw your own conclusions.

O.K. My conclusion is that the left is scared witless by the very thought of a Sarah Palin candidacy and the Republican establishment feels the same way. These polls are intended to (a) discourage Palin and her supporters and, (b) set up the 'too divisive'/'she can't possibly win' meme the media will push the instant Palin announces her candidacy. If she doesn't run, the same MSM will crow that they 'pushed Palin out of the GOP primary race', exposing their real goal with these constantly negative polls. Too late, then. However, I trust that Sarah Palin will make her decision on her own timetable, not the timetable of the MSM, Karl Rove, Charles Krauthammer, Dick Morris or people posting on FR that already back other Republican candidates. If Palin runs, everything changes and the naysayers will be ignored, if not silenced. I can hardly wait.

A poll? Like in a phishing poll? Where you phish the poll until you get the results you want?

I don’t believe in polls. As Sarah said on C-Span today, polls are for strippers and cross-country skiers.

'self described tea party'

Right there I know this is a useless poll. Every person I know that is a tea party member would love, love, love to see Sarah get in the race. This is just media BS.

I wonder how many times they posed the same question to Perry, Huntsman, Paul, and the Three Stooges?

Ms. Palin still placed third in a survey of GOP primary voters, polling at 8% behind Mitt Romney with 18% and Texas Gov. Rick Perry with 26%.
At this stage that wouldn't be bad even if she was actually in the race...which she's not

Why would they take a survey of "primary voters" and ask about someone not even in the primary?

If you ask me, the survey of primary voters asking about a non-primary candidate is a slap in the face and a no confidence vote of the announced candidates.

We need Sarah in the race to push Perry aside.

Rick Perry has surged to the front even though he is a flawed candidate. But too many people are in a swoon without looking closely at his background. That is how we got Commander Zero in the White House.

None of the others vying for the nomination seem to have the strength to knock him out of the #1 spot.

100% of me thinks too many people use public opinion polls as a substitute for thinking for themselves and for reasoned argument.

Polls and poles are for strippers and skiers. My conclusion is everyone with an agenda to get Sarah out for whatever reason is paying anyone they can to do what they do best, push poll, lie and smear.
