A Hurricane of Hype
Minneapolis StarTribune ^

It's a hurricane, not Armageddon. Good grief. A Category 1 storm, you'd think "Irene" was the worst storm America has ever endured.

There are 10 people dead so far because of this “overhyped” storm, including an eleven year old child who was apparently allowed to go outside by parents who thought this was a “little, over-hyped storm”.

OMG. . .PEOPLE DIED. . .OMG. . .RUN FOR THE HILLS. . .OMG. . .A LITTLE BOY. . .OMG. .. .NO ONE SHOULD DIE. . .EVER. . .THE CONSERVATIVES LIED AND PEOPLE DIED. . .LET'S RUN TO THE DEMOCRATS. .THEY WILL PROTECT US.

Please dear God stop this nonsense. . .Do you know about how many people died this past July?. . you better sit down. . .men, women AND CHILDREN died in July. OMG. . SOMETHING IS WRONG. . OMG!!!!SOMEBODY PLEASE FIX THIS MESS WE ARE IN!!. . .Look, people die everyday. . .we don't stop the world because of it. . .this was nothing but a media-driven event stoked up by the recent anxiety over an earthquake and seasoned with a bunch of cowardly, self-interested politicians that were only afraid of getting tagged with the Bush-Katrina label. . which, itself, was one of the greatest travesties of history (Blaming Bush for a Hurricane). It is liberal, media WUSSIFIED CLAPTRAP. . .we are supposed to be a nation that has a pair. .and comprised of citizens that are confident to face life's challenges. . .not a bunch of cowards with gelatin souls cowering in the corner overwrought with angst and fear because a branch struck and killed an unfortunate child. . .please!

“There are 10 people dead so far . . . “

600,000+ “military” deaths alone are recorded for the North’s war of aggression against the South. The “dramatic” earthquake last week and this “worst hurricane in the last hundred years,” while not nothing, are close enough to nothing to make the whole collection of self-important busybodies that inhabit the Boston to Washington corridor look like a bunch of infantile morons.

Oh, I forgot - “including an eleven year old child . . . “ - my gosh, what an insensitive a**hole I must be. All the hype and hysteria is “FOR THE CHILDREN!!!”

You’re all children. And despite your curse, there is no evidence of a pox on my house, although I’m sure the danger of one could now be hyped. “Wiser now”? I think not.

It’s beyond shameful and ridiculous. All hype to cover for Mr. “I Won”. I can see the writing on the wall. High unemployment numbers and sinking economy due to the catastrophic storm, Irene.

I wonder how many of those power outages are because they turned the power off. I know in my county when the wind reaches a certain point, they turn the power off to avoid live downed wires and people getting electrocuted.

I was watching one station and they a reporter was standing in a cul de sac and there was water about 3-4 inches in about 6 homes on the circle at the end of the street, She panned a little too far and standing right behind her was a guy with a camera taking photos of the house with water an inch from their doors and he was on dry ground, standing on grass.

Shep on Fox was talking to a reporter in either NJ, or NY, forget which one but OMG they had seafoam all over the place, even on the doors of the restaurants and hotels that faced the ocean. It was a little odd because the seafoam was an icky brown and she said it smelled horrible. I’ve never seen seafoam that looked like septic tank sludge. Florida’s seafoam is white and it does not stink.

This entire thing is bordering on the absurd.

Yes, throughout that two thousand years London has endured. It will not, however, withstand the Muslim and foreign infestation it is faced with now. The only thing that will rise from the ashes are minarets.

Ah yes, and if I was to laugh hysterically at pics of earthquakes in CA I’m sure you’d understand, oh look, hahahahaha, the building is swaying, oh look a buckle in that highway, hahahahahahahaha. Do not make lite of something you are not experiencing. You can laugh all you want but those of us in the middle of it do not find it amusing.

> I’d like to thank all who came down to help after
> Katrina.God bless all of you.

Thanks.

A lot of churches organized up here and sent busloads of folks with tools to help with cleanup and construction. Many who were not able to go sent money, tools and supplies.

There was a lot of destruction in MO that the news did not report. They seemed to be focused on LA.

More people died in car accidents last night, than died in all of this storm.

It is never funny when someone dies. But you have to keep this whole thing in context.

But this is not even close to being a major storm. Except if my power goes out. Then I will be pissed.

If you live on the water, eventually you will live in the water at one time or another. Deal with it. It’s the price you pay, clean up the mess and move on and thank God this was not a Katrina, Camille, etc.

That number would have been considerably different had people not stayed home as Governors and news agencies worked to keep people safely out of harms way.

The same people complaining the storm wasn’t near what thought possible....and it was highly possible...are the same ones who complain when they aren’t warned sufficient enough and then file law suites for that.

Thank you Mojo....I agree...there should be a river flowing of gratitude this was not what could have been quite possible.....but it rings true no matter how people are warned..or not...they will complain and bellyache.

I think you are missing the point.

No one is saying that Hurricanes are not serious. But when they hit FLA you get 5-10 minutes on the news, every cycle.

The local TV stations are wall to wall, and that is fine and to be expected. BUT, the national news services are acting like a bunch of little babies. The is no reason for CNN and Fox to be wall to wall, except that it is impacting THEM personally.

They should dial it back and let the rest of the world know what is going on elsewhere.

More people die from drug overdoses daily in the cities/states affected by the storm, but the government does nothing to cut off the supplies of illegal drugs that cross the border from Mexico every day.

There is another story about that brown seafoam the reporter was frolicking in, it was raw sewage.

I heard on another website that a couple of the people who died in this storm were killed in a car accident trying to evacuate from it. Its probable that they would have been safer if they had ignored the governments directions to evacuate.

They’re pinning a number of deaths on this storm that are the result of negligence or barely related. I saw on TWC this morning a Florida death was blamed on Irene. What? I mean, we had some rain and breezes this morning, but....

Hurricanes always spawn tornadoes. Hurricanes can happen on any coast. Cat 3 and over, we’ll feel some sympathy. Anything less is just a storm.
