Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

Looking at ~30 weather stations in my immediate locale, the wind speeds vary from 0.0-17.6 mph. Temps range from 86.7º-93.9ºF. Humidity range 21-92.7%. No sale. Not interested.
Surprisingly low pressure for a storm so wide, with it’s center over land for the past 12 hours... Storm surge will be pretty bad at that level.
If this thing re-develops an eyewall, it could get fiercer pretty quick. Most likely... not. But, I don’t think it can be ruled out yet.
Yep...but will the public be fooled by his desperate publicity stunt? I don’t think so....the locals and state officials have been preparing for this thing for a week, while he was out playing golf....LOL!
Yep. We are not that far away.
I googled a number of recent Obama photos and was unable to verify your observation in re grey hair to look like a CiC and black hair on vacation.
Thanks Guys.
Well, here in SE PA we’ve had 3 hours of gentle rain and minor breezes. Just now it has started picking up, so it will be getting worse. Irene is expected to hit Cape May NJ between midnight and 4am, which is about 90 miles east of us. I’d rather have this taking place during daylight so we could keep an eye on flooding. We’re being told to expect 6-10 inches of rain by our local newsies - yikes!
I would suggest if you don't like the media coverage your watching then turn it off. Your posts on this thread come off as creepy and devoid of good will to those being affected. This isn't a pissing match about storm strength although I do hope this thing fizzles out and spares our coast and gives folks like you the chance to say “I told you so.”
Are you and your daughter are in a safe place? we’ll be here with you through the storm. Keep the faith! {{{hugs}}}
It will all work out fine, Fatima! Promise!
You enjoy your time with Mary, and spoil her rotten. (And give her lots of (((((HUGS)))))!
I got the only flight into Gulfport that Monday from Memphis. It was total hell looking at the region. My ride back to the base showed numerous tornado paths that was just incredible.
Oh, I quite agree with you! That was my point. Check out my posts on this thread to see how I became persona non grata for expressing the exact same sentiment.
I live in Virginia, less than 15 miles from either the Atlantic Ocean or Chesapeake Bay, when this witch has passed us by and all is well here, and I know all are well further up the coast, then I maybe I will start worrying about what Bloominidiot or Christie is or has or has done.
I’m sorry you had property damage. Glad you survived to tell us about it :-)
Hurricane Ivan killed my cat.
I am so angry with myself for not listening to that small inner voice which told me to open a particular window. I’ve never opened that window since I’ve lived in this house so I ignored “that” voice.
Now, when “that” voice tells me to do something, I obey, no matter how stupid it is.
GREAT post. In context, that is. That context being the dark shadows and crazy kleig lights of being overly obsessive in following the reports of media on weather events. Or any event.
My previous response to you was pretty snarky - please accept my apologies. It was not directed at you personally.
Pretty easy, the media on this one is beyond hysterical and off the charts batsh$t crazy. I think they hope it will be catastrophic)(it won’t be). I think they are making a political event out of it. How many times has TWC mentioned “the president”. Every other sentence?
We just briefly lost power and the high winds come tonight. I hope it was just blip but cable TV signal is getting a little rough.
No there isn’t but most of the base was sent out on buses to handle the traffic and I was sent out with a chainsaw with a crew to handle the historic parts, including the Jefferson Davis Home and the Confederate Cemetery. It was a mess.
