DAMN
>>Dear West Coasters: When you can get 1 snowfall and not have a 197 car pileup, then we can talk about overreacting to earthquakes.<<
Dear East Coasters,
When you get a couple feet of snow you call out the National Guard and call it a disaster. Us West Coasters routinely get as much as five feet of snow in a snowstorm and we don’t even close the roads. FYI, this last year we had 17.2 FEET of snow in the Sierra Mountains and we’ve had single storms that have dropped fourteen feet of snow and we call that a good reason to get out the snowboards.

Sure is different from the Shep Smith who railed on and on how bad Katrina was and how things were falling apart and it was near Armageddon...
Makes me wonder how his demeanor would be if a Republican were in the White House...
Now he is saying he is done talking about the Earth Quake and will now only talk about the history making that is happening right now in Libya...
hahahah what a freaking Obama shill!
...Is it true the washington monument is leaning now?
Drudge is now reporting that it may be leaning....
Maybe old George is rolling over in his grave watching the Usurper in the WH destroy the US.
In 1972, we had an earthquake centered in Sylmar, California. At the time I lived about 20 miles away in La Crescenta. The magnitude was 6.5.
It took place around 7:00am.
LOL Obama was golfing and possibly MO was dancing in the vineyard. I wonder if the reported monument lean is LEFT?
Yes and no, Megyn Kelly reporting a “one line message” that the Washington Monument is tilting.
****
Somebody saw a cloud pass by the top of the monument and processed an optical illusion of the tower moving instead of the cloud.
My daughter and I felt it here in Central NJ but other people in the house didn’t notice. We didn’t even know it was a quake - we’re used to rumblings from a quarry but this was silent and slower vibrations. Then we shrugged and said oh, well. Kids #3 and #4 are really ticked they didn’t notice. Not fair, we NEVER feel and earthquake!
Hm. See how it looked like someone put a stick into a hornet’s nest, with all the people appearing immediately on the roof of the White House? I’ll bet there were folks up there with shoulder fired SAM missles looking around.
Best to stand under a doorway. They are reinforced. It’s what they teach us in California.
AG...here you are with the laughs.
USGS estimate on this epicenter was 4.6 miles, not a half mile.
USGS Website— ANSS.
I read article where AT&T rep said it was due to the volume of calls, no damaged to equipment.
VA just had an aftershock but we did not feel it over here by the Chesapeake Bay
From CNN Website / http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/08/23/quake-hits-near-washington-d-c/
Updated 2:47 p.m. ET: A “considerable amount” of water from a water pipe has flooded two corridors of the Pentagon, according to an announcement in the building. People who work in those areas are being asked to stay in their offices while workers try to repair the damage.
The National Cathedral in Washington is damaged, CNN has confirmed.
And Dominion Generation, which operates the North Anna nuclear power station in central Virginia a few miles from the epicenter of the earthquake, is trying to reach operational staff at the plant, according to a company spokesman. Landlines to the plant appear to be down.
Shortly after the quake struck, traders in the New York Stock Exchange also felt the quake and shouted to each other, “Keep trading!” CNN’s business correspondent Alison Kosik reported from the floor at 2:20 p.m. E.T.
Considering we live near 3 major faults ij the south bay and gosh knows how many other as yet discovered.. all one can do is be as prepared as one can,,
only a few things are certain in life.. besides taxes and the big leap
a big one hitting the West Coast someday is on the list.. hopefully we are on vacation or long gone when it hits..
I’ll take one over a tornado anyday
Sounds like a good thing.
WHEN the big one hits us we are going to need help from all over.
We have Tule fog for that...
Need to see damage assessment. I can see new government spending demands to repair damages. Never let a good crisis go to waste.
About the dogs — my son is in No Virginia and his 2 Burmese Mt. dogs didn’t react either. My son said that about five minutes before, he and his wife heard a loud tapping sound like someone hitting a pipe. He is about 80 to 100 miles away from Mineral.
