DAMN
In 1972, we had an earthquake centered in Sylmar, California. At the time I lived about 20 miles away in La Crescenta. The magnitude was 6.5.
It took place around 7:00am. My friend had opened up the local Mobil Service station and was there alone. He was out front where he could look up the street, and he watched the waves come down toward him.
This unnerved him so badly, that he jumped in his car and drove home leaving the business wide open.
For this reason, I know that those waves can be seen at much much lower magnitudes than 10.0.
(... that D.C. is no more.)
Totally Unexpected!
They got a list of states affected on Fox but NO DELAWARE!
We felt it big time in Delaware!
Secaucus, NJ
At first, I thought my upstairs neighbor fell down and was rolling on the floor.
Kitchen cabinet doors swayed open, and a floor fan toppled over.
Mad Maxine trying to get DC go to hell!
One of their doctors quit... I want to say recently, but my perception of time has become a little out of whack, maybe in the last few years. Think she went to SF or something.
It’s a goddamn Sphinx? Geesh, what a monstrosity.
Much of DC is built on drained swamp land. Not many high rises..witht eh Wash MOnumnet, you have a very heavy structure, with a small fooprint. ( so the load isn’t spread) on soft ground..remember..it was built long ago...they may NOT have anticipated this...
If my memory serves, the U.S. Capitol building has no steel in it...just stone blocks stacked on top of stone blocks.
True Statement...
They will continue to follow thier un-godly desires until they are destroyed....
Matt, I felt it here in Enfield, CT. My house started creaking and the kids toy horse on springs was moving side to side.
Strange reaction.. Huh? Gold is down 44 bucks. Oil stable in the mid 80s..
Sister Mineral in Charles Town, WV says she got a loud rumble from the ground, but no shaking or damage. Didn’t care for it though.
Virginia has seismic design included in their bridgge design for some areas of the state.
Here in Baltimore, Md - shake was easily 2 minutes long...
Was on 3rd floor and high up on a hill, my computer jumped
up and down (but never lost connection).
As a joke we have 7-11 Obama cups on refrigerator...they
were the only things to fall on the floor...I take that
as a good omen...
P.S. kitty still under bed...
My father was in the basement of the Los Angeles County Hospital when an earthquake came through decades ago. He stated that he saw a wave coming down the hall toward him. I don’t know which earthquake it was, or what the magnitude was.
We saw the same shot, and agree, it *appeared* to list to the right very slightly.
I had friends that lived right along the Ramapo River and had told of many times when the dishes on the shelves would start softly rattling
