CNBC just broke in and told the audience that the President has requested airtime and will speak to the nation at 1300hrs EST (12 noon central, 10 AM PST) on the US national debt downgrade.

He has a nice cocktail of drugs given to him to try and keep him sane looking...once that cocktail is not effective then another cocktail is given to him. Otherwise, he’d have had the breakdown. This can only last just so long...So who has secretly put together the papers to invoke the 25th...is the question.

The "payroll tax credit" is a gimmick. It's borrowing from Social Security and will have to be "paid back" through general tax revenues.

It is insane to extend UI benefits. This is already part of the problem. I have a buddy in California who didn’t even start looking for work until his benefits were almost exhausted. He eventually had to take a job below his “status”, but at least he’s now getting a paycheque. He could have had the same job within a week of being unemployed, but knew he didn’t have to make the decision immediately and then the government kept extending the benefits. Subsidize unemployment and you will get more unemployment.
