The Senate voted to kill a House-approved bill to raise the debt ceiling, leaving the ball in the court of Senate leadership to produce a deficit reduction bill, with just days before the Aug. 2 deadline. The vote was 59-41.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid followed through on his promise to kill the bill, pushed through the House a day late by House Speaker John Boehner. The White House, which has thrown its weight behind a Reid proposal, had promised to veto the bill had it miraculously passed the Senate.
The Senate also killed the Cut, Cap, Balance Act last Friday and has yet to vote on a formal proposal. Having passed two proposals and with little appetite and time to attempt another bill, the House now waits to act on a Senate bill.
I stuck my neck out a mile to get an agreement with the president of the United States, Boehner thundered from the floor after the vote. Its time for the administration and time for our colleagues across the aisle to put something on the table. Tell us where you are!
Brad Dayspring, spokesman for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, announced via Twitter that the House will vote on Reids plan Saturday to show that it is not capable of passing. First votes are expected to begin at 1 p.m.

Not so fast. The House may not approve of the Senate Bill.It depends what is in it, and the Tea Party House Reps will stand firm.
American Thinker thinks it is possible that Reid was afraid that Demint had or was about to get the votes...and so he tabled it.
Something just happened. I feel optimistic for some reason.
Isakson and Chambliss can bite me.
here we go...mcconnell reid deal
Considering the GOP only has one branch of government, it’s kind of hard to get bills passed.
They really can only block...and even then UP TO a point.
Anyone who thinks they can block enough to get CCB actually passed in the Senate is insane and needs to go to the loony bin tonight.
I think we need it, but I just don’t see a way to pass it.
We were successful in keeping out any tax increases.
That’s at least something.
You were not successful in keeping out tax increases. That is up to Super Congress.
and might I add:
“It does not include any penalties or triggers to force Congress to enact entitlement and tax reforms in the coming months. “
No one seems to anymore.
Go ahead and raise your debt ceiling.
Did you ever think to ask your creditors what they thought?
Get ready for the plug to be pulled
Bravo! I too am tired of giving up. We keep having to swallow every new insult. We live with their massive voter fraud and let them put their people in place, we let every horrendous new law disappear from the national discussion as soon as it’s passed.
I’m going to keep calling and talking about the debt and spending even when they’re done with this fiasco. The media quickly changes the subject but we need to fight and not let their side effortlessly meet their goals.
Stay the course, you’re doing the right thing.
GOP should filibuster to demand a vote on CCB ahead of any other vote.

He ain’t lyin’!

Early last evening, it began with Krauthammer. He looked imperiously down his long crooked nose, resembling so much the cartoon guy in the film “Despicable Me”. He said, with disdain that he should have to answer such an obvious question. “Of course they will pass Boehner’s bill, (this BEFORE the BBA was added). It will happen sometime tonight but it will happen.” Krauthammer then sniffed.
Before him it was Bill Crystal on some web site or another, also sniffing. “Boehner’s bill will undoubtedly pass tonight. The Tea Party types gotta make like they’re griping but it’ll all come together before days end.”
On and on it went, all day and all night. George Will. the Wall Street Journal. Kathryn Hamm. even Laura Ingraham for God’s sake.
they sniffed and smirked and winked their eyes. As I paraphrase as I did above, they kept telling us that the Tea Party guys just wanted to rough Boehner up a bit. Soon, so they all were so smug and sure, the bill would pass.
Today, as I sniff and smirk, I note that Boehner had to add that balanced budget thing in there and even at that he still had a whole bunch of votes going against him.
As I sniff....the pundits told us what would happen.
NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM GOT IT RIGHT!!!!
BWWWWWAAAAAAAHHHHHAAAAAA!
I must sniff.
Here is a previous thread on Lauras personal life. Very telling. Dated both Keith Olbermann and Sen Robert Torricelli. Yeah, that Torricelli. The Rat crook.
Laura Ingraham Once Dated Keith Olbermann????
Like a loose ball flying around on the field in football...the ball is still in play....
Not good for the Dems or Obama.
“I would have just told Harry that we sent them the CCB legislation and let him deal with it. Dont know why we had to do a re-do.”
Strongly agree!
Surprisingly not....
It was DeMint, Graham (well yes, that is to be expected), Hatch, Lee-Utah, Rand Paul, and maybe 1 other that I can't recall. See the roll call link on post #17
Mike Lee? He doesn’t want to raise the debt ceiling until a Balanced Budget Amendment has been passed by both houses and sent to the States for ratification.
maybe he just wants to default and see what emerges from the wreckage.
The list of those in both House and Senate voting to increase our debt will be those targeted for defeat next cycle. We need to make sure they KNOW.
.... and Vitter
