I just faxed Bill Flores (Tx) and asked him to reconsider his “YES” vote. This is the kind of stuff they were supposed to stop!

While I agree with you that the bill does not do enough, have you considered what the alternative outcome will likely be?
1. Reid proposes his bill in the Senate. John Kyl has already said that the GOP would not filibuster, but they would vote no, allowing to pass with only Dem votes.
2. The bill goes to the House. Tea Party favorites (including a lot of the freshmen) vote against it, but enough Dems join the establishment GOP to pass the bill "to avid an economic catastrophe".
3. Obama gets his debt ceiling increase and pushes the issue off until after the election. The Dems and the "moderate" GOP members are portrayed as saving the country, while the conservatives and Tea Party candidates are vilified for "pushing the country/world to the brink of economic ruin".
4. Obama wins re-election in 2012. Tea party candidates are defeated en masse as the House goes back to the Dems.
And I want to support this why?

It’s 25 now, I’m hearing.
I don’t care if the GOP wins if that fight they are engaging in serves only to protect Boehner’s reputation. If the GOP were fighting for us that would be another matter.
I posted a quick tweet to show Manchin was voting no. I don’t care who tweeted it or if that poster agrees.
but crap..I didn’t see he was a democrat.
If Beohner loses, Obama wins. This will be spun as (and will actually be) a huge GOP loss and huge gain for Reid and Obama. The bottom line is Obama will get to push it all past the 2012 election. It will take all the pressure off for cuts. Disaster.
What happens if this bill doesn’t get through the house?

The votes are not there. Where do we go from here? Boehner was right when he pushed for Cut, Cap and Balance....and he was splendid on his rebuttal last week.
Can he craft something better and get the votes?
