President Obama let his frustration over the stalled debt talks seep into an address on Latino issues on Monday, confessing that hed like to bypass Congress and change the laws on my own.
He told the National Council of La Raza, Believe me, the idea of doing things on my own is very tempting. I promise you.
But he told the group meeting at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel that he has to work with Congress and will continue to fight for what he called a balanced plan that does not focus solely on spending cuts but that spreads the sacrifice to the wealthiest Americans as well.
La Razaand activist Latinos elsewhereare disappointed in the president for not keeping his promise to champion comprehensive immigration reform in his first year in office. They are particularly angry that his administration has been aggressive in deporting undocumented immigrants, but the president defended the record number of deportations, contending he has had no choice.
Those are the laws on the books, said Obama. I swore an oath to uphold the laws on the books. That doesnt mean I dont know very well the real pain and heartbreak that deportations cause.
He added that he shares the concerns of Latinos. I understand them and I promise you we are responding to your concerns and working every day to make sure we are enforcing flawed laws in the most humane and best possible way.
His ''I'd like to change'' comment followed a section in his speech that mentioned the limitations of Washington in stopping deportations. He then spoke of his frustrations in dealing with Congress. His ''bypass Congress'' comment drew applause and chants of "Yes, You Can," a 2008 campaign slogan.
He did. Where is your sarc tag?
We don’t know what the pirate Roberts allowed him to swear to in that ‘private’ swearing in, January, 2009.
Obama’s comments to La Raza are frightening!
The headline reads “change the rules” but the video shows that Obama actually said -
“some people want me to bypass Congress and change the LAWS on my own............believe me, the idea of doing things on my own is very tempting.”
And the crowd chanted “Yes you can.”
Who are these people who want him to bypass Congress and change the laws? Could this be considered sedition??
I swore an oath to uphold the laws on the books.”
Apparently “The Constitution” isn’t ‘on the books.’

His ego ("I have the gift"), his demeanor (Mussolini picture below) and his monstrously socialist background have instilled him with a hatred of hard work, real sharing and traditional American values.
He's nothing but a petty third-world dictator seeking to subjugate complainers and turn them into idolizers or just punish them out of existence. He's a tyrant and when he's amongst friends (La Raza), his true colors out.
Ping!
I think he IS trying us - with countless czars and executive orders that contain edicts that would NEVER pass a legislative vote, he IS bypassing congress and making rules on his own. There doesn’t seem to be anyone in government who cares or has the stones to call him on it though.
And mega dittos on the FUBO!
“...very tempting. I promise you.”
Wishful thinking I fear.
The late Congressman Norwood knew of which he spoke.
Sure it is, but get two thirds of the senate to call it that.
The last time we did this our own party shut it down. All about sex, sex, sex.
Bingo!
Nor have the required him to enforce current law.
Thanks - Didn't know that.
Can you give a reference?
Obama: I’d Like ‘to Bypass Congress and Change the Rules on My Own’
Obama: I’d Like ‘to Bypass The Election and Declare Victory on My Own’
Obama: I’d Like ‘to Bypass The 22nd Amendment and Be President as Long as I Want’
Obama: I’d Like ‘to Bypass Reality and Be Competent and Capable’
Good luck with that.
just for kicks, i’d like to see boehner let it leak out that he’s called a secret meeting of all republican members of House Judiciary Committee
I'm sure Hitler and Stalin felt the same way.
I expect that soon we'll have our own Reichstag fire then within a few days he can round up all of his political prisoners and torture them to death.
Next time someone calls a conservative a nazi, remind them that von Hindenberg was no flaming liberal and Hitler, the force for change they could believe in, was no card-carrying conservative.
This may have been said, but a generation ago, when there were still some people up there with integrity, he would've been tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail for a speech like that.
GOD I hate that man!
