Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama is seeking $3 trillion to $4 trillion in deficit cuts over the next decade, a move that would require putting Social Security, Medicare, defense spending and tax reform on the table as part of a balanced approach to cuts, Democratic officials familiar with the negotiations told CNN.
The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, did not say what types of cuts would have to be considered under such a proposal. In the past, one Social Security adjustment debt negotiators have discussed is cost-of-living.

This is BS. I dont want cuts over a decade. I want them today.Exactly. And if the House refuses to raise the debt ceiling, then we get $1.6 trillion in cuts NOW.

focusing on the poor folks on SS and MedicareNot everyone on SS and Medicare is "poor."
See picture below (the idiot on the left, and I'm not talking about Obama) for example.
Spending will be cut, and everyone--I mean, everyone--who has elected to depend on Big Government will feel pain, no exceptions.

Yes, but they’ll still line up to vote for him!!!

I agree that his plan will be for very small cuts for 5 years and 80% for after that.
And remember, tax reform is in that list. I would assume all the debt reduction for 5 years is increased taxes.

He may as well resign if he does as the left will rip him to pieces
They may rip him to pieces in the ether and on the internets, but when the vote comes around where are they going to go? He will be reelected - this is the most liberal President ever in the history of the USA and the left in America will lick their wounds and send him back to the WH.
The people that want to save America have to turn out in higher numbers than the left.

This is just the bump before the check in a game of political poker where 0 has blinked while holding a busted inside straight and the Republicans hold four aces.
Hoping very hard that the Republicans hold fast and make 0 cave.

Republicans could be holding 4 aces and would ask for three cards on the draw.

I can't help but think about President Bush and all the h*ll he took ...when he started proposing changes, improvements, and wanting to turn control over to the retiree's of their SS.
President Bush warned this was coming sooner...rather than the Democrat later...
Democrat propagandizing the issue for political gain is going to result in the austere cuts they are going to see today. And yes, they will be austere cuts rather than relinquishing control of the money back to the people. This austere step they will take to maintain control over those SS funds, that are yours, will re-trigger the 401K & IRA debate for a confiscation .
Republicans need to stay ahead of this issue, as soon, people will realize the GOP may have gotten taken on the deal.
We can stay ahead of this debate, in that we need to push the history of republicans wanting to give the people control over their retirement money....NOT TAKE IT AWAY.

It means absolutely nothing. It is page 41 of how to grow government. Talk about spending cuts, using 10 year out, cumulative big sounding numbers so you sound like you’re serious.
Then, don’t even submit a budget for 2 years, and at the same time, deficit spend 1.5 trillion per year. Voila, Government gets bigger. NO MATTER WHAT.

That's equivalent to less than half a trillion a year. This is still petty cash. I hate how they try to inflate how impressive the cuts are by stating them over a decade.
Before: Hopelessly in debt
After: Hopelessly in debt.
To: sunmars
$4 trillion in cuts over 10 years? That will leave us with, what, just $1 trillion even in deficit per year?

I have felt for a long time that the Democrat Party has compromising pictures of the leaders in the Republican Party. I can’t believe the Republicans are so stupid as to go against the majority of the voting public.
