White House: 'Significant' debt deal possible (Dems propose $400-600 billion in new taxes)

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House said Monday that a "significant" deal with Republicans on cutting government spending and raising the nation's debt limit is still possible, even as the administration hardened its stance on the need for increased tax revenue to be part of any agreement. President Barack Obama made his first direct foray into the deficit negotiations Monday. He met with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the Oval Office for about 30 minutes Monday morning, and planned to meet with Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell in the early evening. White House spokesman Jay Carney said Obama's meeting with Reid was "constructive" and the president concluded that there are still opportunities for a deal to be reached. But he said the only way to achieve that objective would be to include tax increases or the elimination of tax breaks for big companies and wealthy individuals.

"It's the only way to get it done," Carney said. The White House has proposed raising about $600 billion in new tax revenue, including ending subsidies to oil and gas companies, an idea that failed in the Senate.

“Obama’s budget wants $85 billion in new user fees over 10 years, including raising the airline passenger security fee from a maximum of $5 per one-way trip to $11.”

It's a tax and because the middle-class uses the airlines it's a tax on the middle-class.

Some good points:

1. We never agreed to their 1 trillion stimulus (Bribes to their constituents) or their health care crap.

2. Why the kcuf should we agree to pay for it?

3. Let these A-holes who had fun spending it find a way to make the cuts (to their constituents) to pay for it.

4. Get Guns and ammunition ready. Were dealing with scumbags.

I have a rifle with ammo for each window in my house for when the Welfare checks start to bounce.

When the Zombies from the hood step on my lawn, I’m ready. I’m looking at this as my patriotic duty.

What benzene in the tap water?

They may lower the welfare check thresh holds but not stop them IMO. That’ll be the last to go if at all. Rather they’ll stop Social Security and Medicare....seniors are easier to contain in their minds.

So the WH announces $600,000,000,000 in new taxes. We have just over 300,000,000 people in the country. An accurate depiction of this tax would be

“White House announces significant debt deal. Agrees to raise taxes 2,000 per person for every citizen in the country.”

And that only counts taxpayers. Since about half the country doesn’t pay taxes, in reality, it’s probably closer to $4,000 per taxpayer.

I wonder how that headline would go over?

We need to identify essential spending first, then cut whats left.

1. I think the War in Libya is essential, and should remain priority number one. It pumps up our presidents ego. Makes him feel like a man, not a Chicago fag on the down-low.

2. Trips to Africa and Spain with Sashta an Malika, priority number two. If Michelle isn't happy, the man with the nukes isn't happy.

3. Vacations to Indonesia and India, Priority Number three. After working hard to get his golf score into the low 90’s , our president deserves a reward and a moral boosting billion dollar trip every year.

Who the heck raises taxes before an election, especially when he is either at or below 50% approval? What an idiot!

How about raising taxes on Americans that pay no federal income tax whatsoever? IMHO, all employed Americans earning over $10,OOO per year should pay some low level of income tax. This “Obama Stash” welfare state must go. And....... add Bill Maher, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Oprah Winfrey, etc.,etc. to your list. Yes, let’s tax the people that really deserve to be taxed at high rates since they love to support politicians that waste our tax dollars by the trillions.

Yep. Increased taxes are not going to help this economy. But they will provide cover for a new wave of Democrat spending.

[Obama] met with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the Oval Office for about 30 minutes Monday morning, and planned to meet with Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell in the early evening.

McConnell's riposte: Great idea, Mr. President.

"Why don't you tell ol' Harry that, if he can get your plan for tax increases thru the Democrat Senate, we'll talk.

"Until then, we've got nothing to talk about..."

Compromise. Democrats get all of what they want, Republicans get half of what they want.

What has Obama been smoking? Republicans have made it very clear that no tax increases would pass or be acceptable. Obama simply can not pass up a chance to try and spend more money. Gee, he or his wife must have more foreign trips with their cronies lined up.
