CHARLOTTE It was clear that Liza Jacksons luck had changed when she drove her pearl-white Dodge sedan, the one with the huge pink plastic eyelashes over the headlights, into Pinebrook, an eight-year-old subdivision where residents tend to notice cars with huge pink eyelashes.
There goes the neighborhood, one homeowner said when she heard that her potential new neighbor had a federal housing voucher known as a Section 8.

Love this remark in the article
....In the recession-era economy, the voucher is becoming a golden ticket to almost anywhere, a point hardly lost on Liza Jackson, whose cellphone was now ringing Lil Wayne.
Yes? she said, answering in the prim manner she described as her white voice. I had called about the four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath? Yes. Liza. Like Minnelli.
Her cell phone has a ringtone for the rapper Little Wayne????
I can see why some might think there goes the neighborhood. Nothing personal against her, but she has some characteristics of people who are “ghetto”.
She has a “white voice”?????
She better watch out. She will lose her street cred if she be acting white.
Nothing to see here, Citizen. Just redistributing the wealth. Now...shut up and get to work so you can pay your taxes.
The parasites have it figured out. The less value you offer, the more goodies the government will give to you.
And how long can that game last?
Spending problem within the U.S. government?
Blasphemy!! /s
What you said. After reading the 2 out of 3 pages of that article that the WaPo allowed me to read, I am too busy having a stroke to make up my own response. Just damn.
Her “vouchre” is $1032 per MONTH!
JUST THE VOUCHER.
Then unemployment, food stamps, welfare for the little no-daddy baby, - then subsidized healthcare, - who knows what else?
OOOPs - almost forgot - at tax time - child credits and kickbacks - another few $thousand that tax PAYERS are limited on.
how did the writer know that someone in the
neighborhood said “there goes the neighborhood?”
is that the type of comment you volunteer
to a washington post reporter?
because they’ll be so sympathetic?
i imagine writer made that up. by the
way, my community consists of expensive
and nice homes surrounded by apartments
that were overbuilt in last three decades. they are
now filled with section 8 inhabitants and illegal immigrants.
the level of crime has gone exploded from almost nothing
to nonstop.
Fannie Mae to Rent out Homes Instead Foreclosing
Thousands of borrowers on the verge of foreclosure will soon have the option of renting their homes from Fannie Mae, under a policy announced Thursday.
The government-controlled company, through its new “Deed for Lease” program, will allow borrowers to transfer ownership to Fannie Mae and sign a one-year lease, with month-to-month extensions after that.

Government controlled rental properties? Isnt that what section 8 housing is already?
The main facet is it allows Fannie and Freddie to maintain the fictitious value of the house, and not write it down, which adds fuel to the economic collapse of housing and lending for housing.
Obamavilles - the new Hoovervilles !
Another “it’s time for pitchforks and torches” moment.
Disgusting.

Cool! I have a “white voice”. Can I get a magic ticket and free cell phone?
In my area their is very little section 8 housing. From the small amount of section 8 housing, you can tell the difference just form driving by. They look run down compared to residences where people pay the rent/mortgage out of their own pockets.
I say go by that house in a few months and compare it to the others.

In the 90s, HUD sued my community to force us to accept “scatter site” housing. Under duress, 23 single family homes were purchased and designated section 8 housing. we were called racists for objecting.
As we predicted, the houses are now abandoned eyesores, having been trashed by the welfare tenants.
Many new apartment projects use HUD financing (which is a slightly lower rate). In return the owners agree to occupy a percentage of the units with section 8 (I think its 5%).
Around 7 years ago, a complex was built near where I work...in order to fill it up, they took on 20% section 8 tenants.
Every day, as I come and go, I either see shirtless fellas hanging out in the stairwells, with ‘combat bottles’ of beer...or a police car parked at the office.
Shockingly, the owners recently went bankrupt, and a bank now owns the mess.
I knew the government would become the largest landlord in the country.
Sadly, many people are starting to say “If you can’t beat them, join them”. But it won’t be long before there’s not enough to go around.
Does this article ever say how she makes a living? Is she going to be a banker in Charlotte? Does she have a job yet?
Baraq’s people.
Living the good life!
