How Drudge Has Stayed on Top

For most big news Web sites, about 60 percent of the traffic is homegrown, people who come directly to the site by dint of a bookmark or typing in www.latimes.com or www.huffingtonpost.com. The other critical 40 percent comes by referrals, the links that are the source of drive-by traffic, new readers and heat-seekers on a particular story.

One guy with a modem, vs. the President of the US - and the little guy won. Now that’s historic.

We need that guy now more than ever.

“Same here, I found FR from Drudge when the Monica fit hit the shan.”

Same here, as well.

Signed up on FR not too long afterwards (though not using that nic any more).

Drudge Report has been my homepage for years. Drudge and FR are my main sources for news.

Drudgereport then FreeRepublic twice a day.

Luca Asani explained to Vatican Radio on May 10, 2011 why NYT is a "disaster". It's all about the digital media: inter-net.

I do not rely on Google to get to news. And I remember the days when CNN was attacking Matt Drudge for being inaccurate because he was from the internet while CNN is a joke and full of liars. Matt told them that on air...

In the past, Drudge linked to a tooth whitener advertiser who bilked folks out of hundreds of dollars.

The Florida Atty General is actively monitoring the case.

Yep, I too found Free Republic from a direct link in Drudge’s story on the morning the Clinton intern scandal (finally) broke in the state-run news media on ABC.

My son pointed out to me the other day that one of the best features of Drudge’s site is his “flashbacks”.
Drudge loves to expose hypocrisy.

I do not rely on Google to get to news.

Google is not where you go first (before you know what question to ask).

Google is where you go after you know enough to write a focused query. You may need several trips through Google, as you hone your query based on previous results.

And, if you don't like Google's advanced query automation and long for a simpler, sparer interface, there's always Yandex (if you don't mind if Kommittee tags along).

yup2394871293: “The NYT hasn’t figured out yet that someone like Drudge has the ability to call attention to the elephant in the room instead of always trying to divert attention away from it.”

LOL; well stated!!!

Cicero: “I find myself visiting Drudge regularly because it’s one of the best places to find out what’s going on.”

And so does all of Washington and “journalists” across the nation.

Long live Drudge! He has been a smart champion of free speech and a thorn in the side of the fascist propaganda machine.

And...I would be craven if I extolled the virtues of Drudge without paying homage to Jim Robinson, the brilliant architect and selfless patriot of Free Republic -— a website prophetic in its name and a man “called to such as time as this.”

I cannot bear to think of the implications that JR & FR will not be mentioned in history books yet to be written.

JR: I pray you live in good health to see the fruits of your labors. You have tolerated more fools and foolishness than a man ought to bear...and have done so with consummate grace and steadfastness to your principles.

It is rare to find a man who does not have a price by which he can be bought. It may never have crossed your mind, but your inviolable line in the sand ennobles all serious FR contributors. You have been a true leader. We can only repay you with our prayers, our thanks, and our financial contributions.

Drudge may command the attention of Washington and the MSM propaganda stenographers-—whether they admit it or not-—but FR serves an even greater purpose: true free speech-— where collective wisdom can be gathered and discerned; where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts; where iron sharpeneth iron, and where research is selflessly offered up to those communicators who have a different or wider audience in service to the truth and our Constitutional Republic, founded under God.

We are living in the most perilous of times, and you provide a voice for the watchmen on the wall and a voice for the common man who had no idea his common sense was so profound.

A heartfelt THANK-YOU...and now I will end this post to go make a donation.

Thank you very much, dearest thouworm, for your heartfelt and wonderful tribute to our Hero and Leader Jim Robinson!

Jim and Free Republic are everything you've stated and more, but mere words cannot possibly express everything that we know and feel in our hearts and minds, nor can we properly express our gratitude or begin to recount the impact Jim and Free Republic have made the National and Local political landscapes.

To say that "Free Republic's best days are still ahead," is an understatement, but with such loyal and superb Freepers like you, we know for a fact that our best days are here and also in the future farther than our eyes can see!!

May God always bless FReepers and our families and May God always bless Free Republic!

Thank you all for supporting Free Republic!!!

We know this 2nd Quarter FReepathon has taken a little longer than most, but Obama's economy is hitting our member's and then there's always a few members who just don't donate for reasons of their own. It would all be so simple, of everyone jst donated a $10 or $20, or signed-up to donate monthly.

Good night. Hugs and Prayers for all.

FReepathon Day 46 - CLICK!

The only thing I really miss is Matt Drudge on Sunday night....

You and me both! I LOVED listening to Drudge on Sundays. Matt Drudge is, in my book, a true American hero, right up there with the best of them (a list that includes Jim Robinson).

Many websites could learn from Drudge - the main reason I think it has success is simplicity. It lacks the all the distracting graphics and advanced html tricks. A user can quickly scan for important or interesting stories.

AMEN!!!!

I was a lurker and a Drudge user before the Monica story. I probably learned about Drudge from Free Republic. Watched all the media deride Drudge for just being an internet news site. Watched him explode after the Monica story. Still is the first site for news around the world. I get a certain satisfaction seeing those same news outlets wonder why with their left leaning stories and democratic press releases Drudge can be more popular. When all their leftist friends in news rooms across the country agree their web sites are better Drudge still kicks their butts.
I volunteer at a senior citizen center teaching and coaching seniors on computers. When any of them show an interest in news, I do my small part and show them how to favorite Drudge. There are a few libs in the program and I don’t want to shock the seniors with too much truth and show them Free Republic.
