Spiro Agnew's Father was a Non-Citizen
U.S. Census 1920 ^ | 1920 | U.S. Bureau of the Census

Posted on 04/12/2011 11:27:59 AM PDT by Captain Kirk

See line 72-75 and scroll over to the box that asks about citizenship. Theodore Agnew, Spiro's father, indicates in the box that he is an "al" (for alien). Young Spiro is shown on line 75. We now have two precedents against the birthers. The other is Chester Arthur. Both had non-citizen fathers and NOBODY in either case cared at the time. The controversy over Arthur was solely related to his alleged foreign birth.

Charles Curtis, Vice-President under Hoover, was not born in the United States. He was born in Kansas one year before it became a State.

Does not matter one bit. Being born in US Territory still makes one a US Citizen.

Interesting question, though. Had Nixon died in office, could Agnew have legally ascended to the presidency, given the “natural born citizen” requirement?

but the advocates of the theory that the children of non-citizens are not eligible for the presidency would certainly have to put him in that category.

It's no "theory", 'Captain'. It's US LAW. Read the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952. Obama is NOT a natural-born citizen.

And anyone who defends Obama does not belong on FR.

Not according to many of those who follow the cult of Vattel. They claim that John McCain would be ineligible because he was born in Panama, even though he was born on U.S. Territorial soil.

These cultists of Vattel claim that you must be born of two citizen parents within the nation itself to be a “Natural Born Citizen”.

The fact that the founders, fully aware of Vattel and his translations of Wolfe, rejected that language and went with the English Common Law language does not matter to them.

To them, Arthur, Curtis, and Agnew are examples of the long standing corruption that has caused gas to be $4 a gallon and puppies to not be as cute as they were in the 1950s.

The same qualifications apply to Vice President.

There is erroneous and conflicting information on when Spiro Angew dad was naturalized. It has been posted on FR and around the Internet. I’m going to find it now.

This passes for logic?

It doesn't matter! The requirements for the Vice Presidency are the exact same for the Presidency. If he is qualified for one, he is qualified for both.

Vice President Spiro Agnew was born on November 9, 1918 in Baltimore, MD. Therefore he was a natural born citizen, whether or not his father was.

Agnew's dad's WWI documentation says he was a naturalized citizen.

This has been hashed out before. Post 26

“Spiro’s father, indicates in the box that he is an “al” (for alien).”

No, he doesn’t. The whole page is in the same hand, so obviously Spiro’s dad didn’t write in the little box.

His wife’s name is on the next line, and there’s an Al by hers, too. But you’re not claiming Margaret (Carter) Akers Agnew is an alien, are you? I hope not!

Interesting.

Captain Crap linked to the same "1920 Census" source Don W linked to.

And it looks like Captain Crap's point just got blown to bits!

I really pays to read the whole blog sometimes.

Captain Crap is silenced.

Well done, Don W!

See post 26, and the Census record. According to his WW1 Registration Card, he was already naturalized, as of 1918. In the 1920 Census, young Spiro was only 1 year old, which would be after 1918.

Of course, none of that has any bearing on Obama and his status. Personally, I think the BC is the wrong tree to bark up. His college records or social security number are far more likely to cause him problems.

Okay, please tell me why the census record was wrong in stating Theodore Agnew was a non-citizen. I’ve provided documentary evidence. Where is YOUR evidence?

1910 Census: I haven’t found a Theodore Agnew in 1910, but I did find a “Theodoros Anagnostopoulos” (his original name) in Massachusetts who’s the right age. He’s listed as “Alien.”

You are reporting the wrong census record and the wrong person. He is not the father of Spiro Theodore Agnew.

He is listed under a different name in another state and city. the 1910 U.S. Census reports he is “Na”, a naturalized U.S. citizen.

The 1930 U.S. Census reports he is “Na”, a naturalized U.S. citizen, but someone used a pencil to cross out the “Na” and write “Al”, meaning an Alien, in pencil above the “Na” written in ink. This was also done for some reason to other “Na” entries made by this census taker as well for reasons that are unknown.

The original entry for the 1910 U.S. Census very definitely reports he was a naturalized U.S. citizen eight years before the birth of his son. The draft registration reports he was a naturalized U.S. citizen no less than two months before the birth of his son. The 1920 U.S. Census record reports him as “Al” and Alien, but there are so many gross errors about age, year of immigration, the informant obviously was reporting erroneous information to the census taker. The 1930 U.S. Census reported he was a naturalized U.S. citizen, except the pen and ink entry was altered by pencil to report an Alien instead of naturalized U.S. citizen.

The natural born citizen requirement only matters to people who believe in enforcing the articles of the Constitution without bias and favortism to any party or person. Everyone else is acting in contempt of the Constitution and the principles for which it stands. It remains to be seen who will protect and defend the Constitution and who will effectively destroy the Constitution and the principles of freedom it was created to defend.

Vice President Spiro Agnew was born on November 9, 1918 in Baltimore, MD. Therefore he was a natural born citizen, whether or not his father was.

The argument we hear is that a person born in the U.S., but of a non-citizen parent, is not a natural born citizen.
