Between the “he was a good boy” side and the other side.

That is the first thing I thought. If the community is divided, I hope it is between those who want them executed immediately and those who think they should be executed after a brief trial.

Unfortunately I suspect it is divided between those who support the rapists and those who don’t.

Sadly, I can actually explain how.

Some in the “community” are horrified that this happened to a young girl and are outraged against the thug rapists.

Others in the “community” say their precious boys - even those who are 27 years old - are just “good boys” and this young girl is a loose girl who had it coming.

Sick.

Sharply divided the community!? In what way?

In the same way it is divided over selling of drugs. Drug-pushers have sisters, you know, and those sisters get nice earrings from time to time.

How many siblings, parents and friends do you think 28 perps cumulatively have? Enough to divide the community.

It's about taking sides, not applying principles, isn't it?

Hopefully, it's between those who say the guilty be hanged vs shot vs drawn & quartered.

I read somewhere that the little girl’s family are receiving threatening and harassing phone calls.
Some of the high school students are good athletes and one is the son of an official, school board IIRC.

The whole thing is beyond sickening.

Either the 'community' is divided into people who think it's OK to rape an eleven year old child - and those who think it's wrong OR the child was Asian or White. My guess is 'Asian'...

Child-rapists versus non-rapists.

The former seem to form a sizable contingency.

I'm going to guess that some are outraged, and some are unwilling to condemn the perps. Now what circumstance of the case would cause THAT to happen?

I suspect the raped girl is not of the same race as the people whose mug shots grace post #4.

“Sharply divided” means half the community thinks this was okay I guess.

I bet I know.

You have potentially 28 fat mothers of these rapists screaming from their front porches:

My baby boy didn't do nuthin' to nobody!

I have seen it time, and time, and time again.

Sharply divided the community!? In what way?

The fact of the matter in multicultural Amerika not everyone has the same morals, mores or attitudes. It used to be the vast majority of Americans had what was known as Christian or Western values. No more. Some groups of people just don't think the same as "real Americans" and those values are transmitted to their children. Its also a fact that different groups of people are biologically different and they mature faster than others and that's not even counting the effect of all the chemicals hormones in the food and water supply.

Some of the perp's supporters are claiming that the 11 year old wanted to have sex with older men and was therefore not raped. This could be true and such an act would be accepted within certain communities, despite what the public at large might think about the matter.

If these men were tried by a jury by their actual peers would they be acquitted? What would be the greater threat: the individuals who did the deed or the entire people who support and defend them? At what point does a group of people whose culture and customs become so different from their neighbors that they would be considered foreign or even hostile or dangerous?
