Gallup keeps bringing the hits. Today it has a breakdown of early Republican primary polls by the top issues among potential voters. First the qualification: Primary polls this early are poor indicators of results. At this point in 2007, Rudy Giuliani led the GOP field and Hillary Clinton had a virtual lock on the Democratic nomination. But these polls do show us something about how the candidates are viewed, and whom they appeal to.
With that said, there are some notable results here. Mitt Romney still does badly among those who social issues as the biggest issue in 2012, as does Newt Gingrich. Perhaps more surprising, Sarah Palin wins among those voters who see national security and foreign policy as the most important issue.

You are being too optimistic. There are way too many politically ignorant voters in existence and way too many politically stupid voters in existence to be so certain that Obama wouldn’t win a second term. Worldwide, the “dumbing down” of people, thanks to political correctness, the MSM, and political indoctrination from government controlled schools, at every level, continues to help the left win many more political races than it should.
Meaningless. You posted the numbers as if they mean something good. They are what they are. It sounds like you are pleading “guilty, with an explanation”.

One of the things to watch for is how the ‘12 U.S. Senate races play out. If the GOP has enormous political momentum going it’s way, then it should, also, help to boost whoever the final GOP Presidential candidate is. I’m, also, curious as to what the new RNC Chair plans to do differently about the ‘11 elections and ‘12 elections, compared to those before him with past elections. Presently, there are a lot of question marks on the GOP side.
Congress is not known to fight the POTUS esp the year or two following an election that let the POTUS lead. Congress esp in the last 70 years or so have also followed the tone set by the POTUS. the footsoldiers can not hold out against the general when he/she leads...
And, two years later, the Congress passed what was, at the time, the largest tax increase in the history of the country.

OK, now I know you aren't old enough to remember the Eisenhower administration. Eisenhower BEGGED for reductions in the top-marginal rate, and Congress told him to get bent. Up until 1994, the Democrats had a strangle-hold on Congress generally, and the House in particular. They made it miserable for any Republican, and especially on our one conservative Republican president.
Congress matters, and they FREQUENTLY don't "followed the tone set by the POTUS".
I don't know who they actually polled, but I'm pretty darn sure the bulk of registered GOP would not see Huckabee as the preferred choice when it comes to govt spending and power.

I’m with you. Just curious....who the hell is a sensible person supposed to support in the primaries? When Trump starts looking good, you know we’re in trouble.
Given all the unrest in the middle east I am more convinced that Allen West should be our next president. We need a president with a military background as this jihad against the US accelerates.
I agree. She has made good statements-—i.e., much better than Obama. But no real insight or “strategery.”
I’m not sure old models apply. Until Obama, senators had no success seeking the presidency. There just aren’t that many western governors who stand out, while the crises are really in the midwest and east. There, you already (though it’s REALLY early) have Christie, Scott, and Walker, with Kasich’s turn at bat coming. But I don’t think there’s enough lead time for these guys.
