Barry will have to check with his union bosses to see if there is anything he can do about the situation. Otherwise, he doesn’t have the guts to make a move. So, I doubt that many pirates were really injured.

Before I join in the knee-jerking, I want to know if they were killed during a rescue operation. “Negotiations” sounds like there might have been something else going on..

If the Americans were killed during negotiations, then Obama will say our negotiators acted "stupidly".

Has Obama already claimed he "inherited" this pirate problem?

This should have ended long ago - with the bombing of ports these pirate boats and their mother ships sail from. The people in Somalia would quickly learn that with each hi-jacking, comes another flyover of US Navy Jets taking out a marina or two, or maybe a few burnt Somali ship superstructures sticking up out of the water in their harbor as a reminder.

Our Navy’s prime mission is to protect the sea-lanes, allowing safe passage in all open waters. We have failed to do that and the Commander In Chief needs to beld in contempt.

I agree 100% with your post.

It is time to bring back Executive Outcomes! It should never have been stopped.
They worked for the countries that wanted to put down insurgents that terrorized innocent populations. Although Somalia would not invite them in it is still what should be done. The UN and other “weak-knee” nations won’t lift a finger. Russia and India seem to do things right at sea!
Maybe ZERO could have a Beer Summit with the Pirate leaders?

I am sure there are travel warnings but get permission? I don’’t know. It didn’t help much to have the Navy shadowing them did it.

Thanks for the background info. In a perfect world nothing would be "off limits" and no part of the world would be unsafe. But that's not the case so I do question how they ended up there knowing how dangerous it is. Doesn't matter to me that they were good Christians distributing bibles to poor people.

I'll be interested to see what Obama does(n't) here. So far he's been feckless.

Problem is there's no one to declare war on! They've a real catch-22 there in that there's no government so there's not a party on whom to declare the war.

I think we could sink any boat that leaves Somali territorial waters.

The article is somewhat vague - and developing -and may change.

U.S. forces responded to gunfire aboard the yacht Quest at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday, but discovered all four hostages had been shot by their captors. Despite steps to provide life-saving care, all four hostages died of their wounds.

Then this

The yacht Quest was hijacked on Friday off the coast of Oman and U.S. forces had been closely monitoring the vessel.

So what does closely monitoring mean?
US forces didn't approach until they heard gunfire? - that apparently didn't emit from some of their guns?

Exactly. The battle against Muslim pirates setting out from Tripoli was a defining moment in the creation of US naval and military power some 200 years ago.

The US still ended up paying a ransom for some of the US sailors who had been captured (thanks to the timidity of the State Department...some things never change). But the military had knocked the pirates back and while they made some attempts to revive in the early 20th centuries, other things (such as WWI) intervened.

It appears that every hundred years or so, Muslims have to be taught that lesson all over again.

Too bad there is not a millionaire out there that will set up bait boats. Yachts that look like pleasure boats but are actually hunter killers. Loaded to the hilt with firepower that could incinerate any pirate boat.

Love that graphic. May I link to it in a web page - maybe, Facebook?

Of course! Copy it, link to it, what ever. You don't need to credit me either, my pics are for sharing among FRiends. :0)

In a strongly worded letter, Obama will cancel their subscription to Yachting Magazine.

So what does closely monitoring mean?

It probably means Obama imposed so many rules of engagement on the military, all they were left to do was sit and watch.

Nice reply. The ones posting comments that they were stupid for even being in the area, must have flunked geography. You can’t sail on a good portion of eastern Indian Ocean or Gulf of Aden without sailing within range of the mother ships killer boats. A innocent trip from India to Madagascar puts you at risk.

We should ask the AFL-CIO to help the pirates into forming a Union...very soon they will become lazy, inefficient and extinct.

>Pirates kill Americans and he is laser-focused on Wisconsin where his union buddies are throwing tantrums. Great leadership from nobama!<

According to the article:
Pirates currently hold 30 ships and more than 660 hostages, not counting the attack against the Quest.

If the Unions were under attack by Somali Pirates he would send in the SEIU thugs to end it quick. But since they are only regular people, they aren’t worth his time.

Because those people wanted to! Thats good enough for me and should be good enough for everyone. It is akin to the young girl in Florida that was killed while bull riding, it’s what they wanted.
The real problem is there are people in this world who would rather bow down than stand tall! Picture, BEND OVER OBAMA!!!!!
