Possible Running Mates for Sarah Palin in 2012 Presidential Election
Yahoo! News Weekend Edition ^ | February 13, 2011 | William Browning

Posted on 02/13/2011 1:38:45 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The race for the 2012 Republican nomination for President is becoming more concrete. GOP candidates made their pitches to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington on Feb. 10-12 and a straw poll of attendees was taken. The Washington Post reports Rep. Ron Paul of Texas won the poll, with about 30 percent of the 3,742 ballots cast.

The poll doesn't say much as not one candidate received more votes than the other. Some of the biggest news from the weekend came from former vice presidential running mate Sarah Palin and she didn't even attend the conference. Palin hired former Bob Dole campaigner Michael Glassner as her chief of staff, signaling a possible run for the White House.

Now the speculation and discourse about Palin's politics will continue and gradually build to a formal announcement running for president (or not). Who would be Palin's ideal running mate should she win the Republican nomination? Here are some suggestions based upon traditional party tickets and even some like-minded individuals who would serve Republicans well in 2012.

Ron Paul would be ideal since he is from a southern state and can get a lot of voters in the huge Lone Star state. He could also galvanize more tea party voters and convince independents who lean to the right that Palin is a good idea. Paul will be 76 when the 2012 presidential election happens and then 80 when a potential first term is over. At least he'll only be vice president, but Paul will serve as a foil to Palin's youthful exuberance.

Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina is an excellent choice for Palin....

I would be willing to bet you anything you want to bet that she won’t/can’t win. She has been poisoned. While neither of us like it, it is the reality we face. All one has to do is take a poll of fellow freepers to see that her support has fallen, even among her most ardent supporters.

What about DeMint? He’s conservative and from the South.

Sounds good here, but he wouldn’t add anything vote-wise. She already has the conservatives and the GOP will win the south regardless. If geography is a consideration, I would be looking at Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, or Iowa, maybe a popular governor or former governor. Remember we picked up the governorships in PA, OH, MI,WI,IA, and NM in 2010. The state legislatures flipped to Republican in OH and PA. The media wants us to forget that. They also want us to forget the effectiveness of Gov. Palin and the TEA party. FL and VA will be in the GOP column in 2012 and if you add OH and PA, Obama is toast. A VP candidate from one of those states (OH or PA) might ice the deal. John Kasich might be in the right place at the right time.

OK. That makes sense. I’ll have to look into Kasich. I’ve never heard of him.

A lot of people seem to feel that a black VP would gain Sarah some black votes.

Respectfully disagree.

Black conservatives do not attract blacks, as far as I can tell.

Indeed. For this democratic operative to suggest Palin needs help in Texas or among Tea-Party Americans, shows that his article is not more than TP for the bathroom.

Rubio would be an interesting choice though.

I don’t agree. The same was said about Reagan. If Sarah runs, voters will come out of the woodwork like never before. The attacks are making her stonger. Her brief history as governor of Alaska displays more good works than the others combined. Hide and watch.

nevermind trying to find a Reaganesque candidate....we need a Nixon...a real hard baller

Reagan led the USSR to implode, lowered taxes and created a time of great prosperity. Nixon made friends with China so that today they make all our stuff. He instituted wage and price controls, a 55mph speed limit, created the EPA, lost the Vietnam war, committed federal crimes, got impeached, and resigned in disgrace. He inspired generations of narcissists to go into news reporting destroying the profession of journalism. Nothing good for America resulted from the hardball RINO Nixon.

It’s not going to be popular around here, but Romney may have to be Bush to Palin’s Reagan.

A campaign volunteer for Obama giving advice to Palin? Do the opposite of what he says and all will be good.

Reagan was a once in a 100-year type leader. To even suggest that Palin is a Reagan is just plain silly. Just go back and listen to some of Reagan’s speeches and it will quickly become obvious that she isn’t even close.
