From all reports, it was the Egyptian police, who remain staunchly loyal to Mubarak. They’d changed into plain clothes are were attacking the anti-Mubarak forces, as well as trying to cause general chaos.

This has been verified by reporters from all over the world, who are on site. Doing a Google search will bring up a lot of news stories about it, if you don’t trust American sources.

They are trying to create support for the idea that Mubarak must remain in power because only he can keep peace in Egypt. (That’s been the rationale for funding him for thirty years, after all.)

Thanks for your opinion.

My experience is from a different perspective and I am rather cynical about what is eventually going to happen to Egypt.

Where the hell do you think the capstones and rest of the pyramids went?

They Muslims disassemble the smooth limestone and granite for use in building Cairo until they were stopped.

Sure you can blame the French for Spinx but the 99.999% of the destruction of antiquities is directly attributable the Egyptians themselves.

Correct. At least some of them would be secure if they were in London, Paris, NY, Moscow...
I’m hoping Hawass is real proud of bringing them all back!

I have a nephew there. It is said that he plans on staying. I heard that and said, tell him to get out of there now.

Heaven only knows what path Egypt is going to traverse over the next six months.

oh dear....your nephew needs to leave. The call for Americans “must leave” ...immediately.... is because they do know what’s coming down. Friday will be too late as there won’t be any American planes to take them out. It’s basically last call.

Good..and do let us know if he’s safe. I’ll pray about this tonight.

One of the positive things about this whole ordeal is the Egyptians are ‘Sunni’ Muslims rather tha ‘Shite’ as in Iran. I am hopeful they will not tolerate an Islamic fill in even for a moment. Elbaradei is Irans point man. The sad thing is the people on the streets have no one to offer when Mabaric steps down outside the Muslim Brotherhood who are really bad dudes. So at some point they have to agree to let Mabaric stay until they have elections.

There are people now on the ground trying to get this message out.

The same media told me that they were eating each other after a New Orleans Hurricane and how dangerous and violent the tea parties are.

Case in point why the artifacts should stay in the British Museum.

For now anyways. Once the Muzzies take over Britain, we'll need to move them to a Christian country

While you all joke there is a bloodbath going on with those who have been there for days fighting for democracy being fire bombed by the government’s interior police.

Are they fighting for a "democracy" or a "theocracy"? Actually neither of those choices are very appealing considering the way these people are likely to vote in the future.

Right now this revolution is entirely rudderless. What they are fighting for is what they are getting... ANARCHY.

The American Revolution was somewhat unique in that it was a revolution with a distinct purpose and named leaders at the helm. Those who signed the Declaration of Independence placed their lives on the line to bring about a "more perfect union". Not a perfect union, but a more perfect union.

If the American revolution had started like this, with anarchy in the streets, we would probably all be living under some kind of totalitarian or authoritarian government and longing for the days when we were British subjects.

The entire “media” didn’t tell you that Tea Partiers were violent - or that they were eating each other after Katrina. (I never heard that one.) You could find different portrayals of those events depending on where you looked.

“The Tea Party is violent,” is a good example of a “factoid”. Mainly, that story when covered on my news lineup they have on my cable box) took the line of “Some say the Tea Party movement is encouraging violence. Let’s examine this,” and then have two talking heads from either side, talking about signs (because they had no actual incidents to cover.)

The “media” isn’t monolithic. If they were, they wouldn’t make any money - which is, ultimately, why most of the big players, especially on cable and broadcast, exist. There will always be alternative “stories” or explanations for an event. That’s the whole point of marketing -offer the consumer something different.

It’s only big things like a hurricane, an earthquake, or a bombing can be covered without opinion, because they obviously occurred. But after that, all the explanations portrayals of the causes and the following events can be different from outlet to outlet.

I prefer to triangulate - to find all the stories I can from the different angles, see what facts about the case at hand that each offer, and figure the truth is somewhere in there.

Ever served om a jury? It’s a lot like that. I won’t take anybody’s story right from the get-go. Every testimony leaves some important part out, or provides info from a different angle.

This is exactly why the west should NEVER give back priceless historical artifacts to these backwards pedophile worshiping countries.

IMHO, The curators of the museum have much to answer for if they did not attempt to protect the art in some way on Day One when the demonstrations started.

Yes I agree - I did say Egyptians which would also include Coptics, Catholics, Anglicans and secular Egyptians even though Muslims do make up the greater part of Egyptians!

Cheers

Just how would they know pro-government as opposed to others pretending to be pro-government? You’ve seen right in this country people try to descredit the Tea Party by planting people in the crowd and you know they do the same thing everywhere. My bet is that the pro-Muslim Brotherhood folks will do what they can to destroy whatever they consider non-Islamic while this situation is in flux and that anything they’re going to be seen doing they’ll disguise themselves as another faction to do it.

Don’t be surprised to see people identified as Copts doing some destruction as a means to get the anti-Christian actions going. This is traditional facist practice, from Germans putting people in Polish uniforms to justify invading Poland right through planting people in Tea Party gatherings. Why should I think Al Jazeera isn’t going to help the Muslim Brotherhood along by identifying groups the way the MB wants them identified? Especially when there’s limited coverage, I don’t trust Al Jazeera to be anything other than an active participant in the destruction of any country not controlled by a Muslim religious crowd.
