Pentagon: Training on 'don't ask, don't tell' starts in Feb. for troops, commanders
Washington Post ^ | 28 January 2011 | Ed O'keefe

Using lectures, videos and PowerPoint slides, the Pentagon plans to start training commanders, chaplains and troops next month on how to adjust to a military that will allow gays and lesbians to serve openly in uniform, a critical step in ending the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, officials said Friday.

The new guidelines come as President Obama and Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates vowed this week to lift the ban this year, a promise in line with the expectations of gay rights groups who are seeking a swift end to the policy.

Each of the military services will be responsible for the specifics of training, which will occur in three phases. Military chaplains, lawyers and civilian personnel will go first, followed by commanding officers and the rank-and-file. The services will focus on training troops before they deploy, but some training may take place on the battlefront, officials said.

Since we are an all volunteer military, if a person signed up and we were under DADT, and now the gov. changes the rules in the middle of your hitch, is the contract you signed still in force?

I guess it’s time for a person to check if he/she is truely a christian. I would leave the service.

ALLOW GAYS TO SERVE OPENLY IN UNIFORM?

What does that mean, they get to kiss, hug and blow each other on the parade ground?

They get to wear pink ribbons on their helmets?

They get to have their own shower facilities and fudge packing lounges?

This is so sad it is laughable.

This is the beginning of the end for Americas all volunteer military...... Simply because young Americans who are Christian or Morman will now refuse to volunteer. Now we go back to the draft. This is what this is all about, the leftists hokey pokey.

I wonder if they are also going to be told that they can leave the service under breach of contract.
Perhaps not since it would greatly, and immediately, reduce the number of military personnel.

I’m sure you’ll keep everyone here apprised of the situation.

Thank God I’m in the Fleet Reserve and in another 1 1/2 years I’ll be at the 30 year mark and beyond recall.

We have Iran building nucs, Eygpt going nuts and China launching missiles off the west coast. And we are wasting money on this crap when we need to train more troops to use weapons. Glad I'm out.

Let the indoctrination begin.

I believe this will further weaken our cohesion in our military and ultimately bring down its effectiveness.

Just what the leftists want.

We Americans are truly self distructive in our stupidity.

I retire in June.....woo hoo! Although I guess I will have to go through the training in February. I just think the military needs to concentrate on working and not this. DADT worked. The only change I would make to DADT is if someone is “caught” because of some silly e-mail name or something. We had a Senior Chief forced retired because his e-mail was lovemen.com. I mean it was a stupid CIVILIAN e-mail name but it caused all kinds of drama in the Navy over it. Had this type of discharge/retirements did not happen, I believe DADT would still be in place.

I only got three shots out of the series when i was in Korea. These bureaucrats are so stupid. They bring out these measures but don't take into account that you typically are not stationed in a “potential war zone” for enough time to get all the shots. So is it worse to have the entire series or get interrupted and only have 1/2. NOBODY knows.

Sheesh.

I remember having to sit through those seemingly endless Race Relations classes as a young NCO. After a while, it seemed they were all on the same subject... why black soldiers were allowed to wear beards. I saw so many slides of disgusting cases of "razor bumps", and yet never saw anyone in person with a case like the ones on the slides. It just seemed that almost every black soldier had a shaving profile back then.

That's what I see coming with the homosexuals. Special Rights. Once again, they will get the military doctors on board, and start passing out special privileges to certain soldiers based on their "sexual orientation".

Then, hundreds of thousands of man-hours of valuable training time will be wasted away explaining to the troops why these people are "special".

No one will be able to question these special rights out of fear of losing their career... just like I was made to live in fear of being branded a "racist" if I dared question a soldier's shaving profile.

The razor bump thingy worked so well before that we'll probably have the puffers trying a variation of it... by being declared "non deployable" due to razor bumps on their "bikini line".

I'm just glad I am retired and won't have to look at THOSE slides.

A very small amount will resign. The Pentagon and government know what they are doing and purposely let this pass during the worse economy in decades. People will not resign in droves although the military is cutting personnel so I am not even sure that the military would care if people leave. That is what they want. The Navy is having a forced separation on 0-5 and 0-6 officers this year. So any that want to leave voluntarily will make their lives easier when they have to chose who to “get rid of”.

When I was a lowly GS-5 with a new wife and job, I had to attend a race relations class. This was at Lackland AFB. It was indoctrination pure and simple, really quite insulting to Whites.

I remember those classes too. You are correct about being insulting to whites and I'll include Hispanics. I and several others snuck out after the second break.

Considering there is not supposed to be any sexual fraternization between troops, why would any solider/sailor/airman/marine ever need to tell anyone about their sexual preference? Do straight troops currently declare that they are openly “straight”? These bum-buddies will be using their perversion to gain leverage for promotion, protection from charges for misconduct, and to settle personal scores by getting their comrades into trouble. The brass will use any example of push-back from straight soldiers as justification for coming down hard and increasing the scope and intensity of indoctrination. Remember Tailhook?
