From FOX:
DEVELOPING: Loud explosions and gunfire were heard in the Egyptian capital of Cairo Friday, as protesters demanding the removal of President Hosni Mubarak defied a curfew, Al Jazeera reported. Egyptian television reports the ruling party headquarters in Cairo are on fire.
From TWITTER:
WashingtonPost: Clinton: We urge #Egypt authorities to allow peaceful protest, reverse unprecedented steps it has taken to cut off communications less than 20 seconds ago
And a new Pharoah arose in Egypt, one who did not know Joseph...
Look, you’re touching on only some of the bad outcomes. What happens if we have to step in to protect Israel and Russia objects?
We’ve really got some clueless contributors on the forum right now.
No Russia isn’t the threat it used to be, but you add Russia, China, radical Islamic nations to this, we’re talking real problems here.
We have millions of potential suicide bombers inside our own borders too.
This isn’t some Pixar animation folks. It’s real life. Not every real life situation turns out like a fairy tale.
You are correct. This is a classic “Tactical Scissor” move.
That's just hope and testosterone talking.
We need somebody who has already shown that he's ready to step up to the plate on Day 1.
And God help me, I don't know who that person might be.... I just know who it's not, and it's none of the idiots who currently dominate the GOP presidential polls.
Just remember the people who killed Sadat were also gunning for Mubarak, but Mubarak managed to escape assassination.
I’m not only interested, but you and I have a vested interest in that region remaining stable. It is absolutely vital that it does.
BINGO!
Muburak was selfish and ruthless. Egypt’s got poverty pockets that are shameful given American aid and it’s status as a top world tourist attraction.
I don’t like the Saudis, sons of camels the whole bunch of them, but they do keep the populace mostly content, they don’t really mistreat the populace save for the gnatty Religious Police.
Course the House of Saud is a whole bunch of interbred idiots and they have to watch their backs. But you won’t likely see the Saudi citizens out and rioting for the total dissatisfaction of the citizenry.
You get the Shah and Muburak and Saddam....damn, the human beings aren’t going to like this.
Of course nobody wants the extreme MB to take over but come on, if we’ve learned anything isn’t it to STOP coddling these dictators, make them fly right or get them overthrown?
Again, I believe America probably had plenty of chances to make this happen but the leaders in power didn’t want to be bothered. I do know that Dubya tried to get Muburak to toe the line but Muburak flipped him the bird.
Going forward, whatever happens in Egypt, America has GOT to stop taking the easy way, kicking the can down the road.
Coddling “benevolent” (as if there is such a thing) dictators ain’t the answer.
I keep hearing conflicting reports. Fox radio says its pro democracy riots. Others reporting Islamic hardliners. Which is it?
You are the voice of logic in a sea of panic.
The US is not a world despot - we have to play the cards dealt with diplomacy and self-interest. Since the evaporation of the British Empire and the fall of the Berlin Wall - the World has been in a constant state of regional conflict. It used to be a dance of dictators and democracy - now it is Islam vs. the rest of humanity.
Where is the United Nations?
The fact that his family fled three days ago is all anyone needed to know about where this is headed.
Nit picking, I know, Sri Lanka is 70% Buddhist and only less than 10% Muslim. Also Madagascar is misplaced. India is 30% Muslim. Other than that it makes an excellent point.
Khaled Yousef, the Egyptian director says that some Egyptians living in the neighbourhood have come down to protect the Egypt Museum. 9 minutes ago via web
Yep, the family fleeing was like ‘blood in the water’ for the sharks.
I made mention of Iraq's current status a little earlier here.
Didnt I read, somewhere, recently, that Sadr had returned to Iraq??
Yes, I believe the detestable little greaseball is in Najaf these days.
After many months of relative calm, we could pretty much pinpoint Sadr's return by the re-appearance of mortars and rockets coming in on our bases.
I spent some of Christmas evening making jokes in a bunker to calm the uninitiated as the bombs fell nearby. As is the case about 98% of the time, nobody was hurt. We have better stuff than they do.
For now, anyway.
There are some civilizations that can’t handle a democratic form of government. It’s sad, but true. The survival of what we have here in America depends on the worldview, lawfulness, and due diligence of the people who live here. What we have here in America has traditionally been the rule of law through a representative form of government with guarantees on individual liberty through a supreme law, the Constitution.
Muslims will always have sharia as their supreme law. That means no guarantees of liberty and no rule of law.
It scares me to think of Islamic fundamentalists setting the Middle East on fire.
My guess would be shadowy globalists, whose only religious principle is that chaos and anarchy are necessary to prepare the world for their leadership
I completely agree, and unlike a lot of the other seemingly clueless posters on this thread, I am genuinely concerned for the state of the world. Mubarak is a thug, yes, but considering the alternatives, I’d rather have a US ally than a murderous Muslim at the helm of a country like Egypt.
And we know that you are not one of those truly “clueless” posters on this thread, now don’t we? God bless.
They’re exercising their “Democratic” right to install an America-hating government. All that’s missing is Nancy Pelosi arriving up the Nile on a barge being fed grapes by Barney Frank in a belted skirt.
