"...Combining scientific, anthropological and historical evidence, the exhibit argues the fundamental concept of race and racial differences has no biological basis but is a man-made distinction with immeasurable social consequences over the centuries.
Developed by the American Anthropological Association and Science Museum of Minnesota, "Race" invites visitors to examine race and racism through exhibits, interactive stations and artifacts..."

"Race" is the same way, but we see it more clearly. It's an indeterminate term, used as a tool to make a political point. This has always been the case. Is "hispanic" a race? Are hispanics "white"? Are all "hispanics" the "same"? All of this is really just game-playing.
Culture, on the other hand, is very real, and very important. And some cultures are better than others.
Well if race doesn’t exist why do they call us racist when we speak out against Obama’s policies?
Is there a biological basis to say that a Golden Retriever is physically different from a Chihuahua? Or are any perceived differences merely man-made constructs?
I agree 100%, but even Obama would agree with that statement. In his eyes, all cultures are equally wonderful, except white western Christian imperialist capitalists, and our culture is the source of all the world's problems.
So genetics (biology) has no bearing on racial distinctions? Perhaps we are purely mathematical abstractions with statistical possibilities of what we become? I still remember the TV programs of the 1950's where they could use the word halfbreed to distinguish a mixed race person. Now race is becoming a derogatory word?
Pretty soon we will be rendered to a single word to explain everything, George Carlin's $h!t.
It has nothing to do with liberals.
Race doesn't exist. At least not in any way that isn't soaked with politics. There is no definition of race which will fit every usage and attempts to define race have changed drastically over time. In fact, it's hard to get people to agree on how many "races" there are.
Attempting to define people by race is dangerous and hurts the individual and society.
Culture, on the other hand, is more readily definable and thus is much more useful.
You wrote: race doesn't exist, according to Liberals). Do you believe that people should be treated differently based on solely perceived racial differences?
I believe that people should be treated based on their individual merits and not on their inclusion in an artificial, ever-changing construct.
Or depending on whatever waterway the EPA wants to shut down that week under the endangered species act.
Hear hear.
Well, if race doesn’t exist, I guess that shoots(can I still say that?) down one of the far lefts single most used mantra, your a racist.
you’re a culturist !!!
youre a culturist !!!
Uggggg. We’re all mutants from the galaxy Acbar! I knew it.
I guess we can quit worrying about sickle-cell anemia now.
The differences in dog breeds are physical. At the same time, they are man-made. Man created the different breeds on purpose, selecting for desirable/undesirable traits.
We watched a program on dogs just this morning, called The Science of Dogs. Dogs are 99.8% alike in every way, and all of the differences in the world of dogs are contained in a tiny .2% of dog genes.

Last week we watched a program called Dogs Decoded, about human-dog interaction and how dogs were likely tamed by humans.
So different breeds are genetically different, but that difference is very small.
All dogs have certain traits. They look to cues from humans for guidance (wolves don't), for example. Beyond that, different dogs have been bred to have different traits. Some are better swimmers, some are better retrievers, some are better at hunting or running.
According to the film, the 19th century saw the creation of about 75% of the breeds we see today. The number of breeds exploded when the new middle class took up dog breeding.
It's a book about political economy disguised as a book about dogs.
Well said.
In my area of the country people mary whom they wish. Folks don’t need idiots deciding which parents and grandparents their children must discard so they can be fitted into some goofy category.
Thank you! I’ll add it to my reading list. Sounds fascinating.
I wonder if the “culturist” card is as reusable as teh race card.
