The biologists can't really agree on a definition of "species". The way "species" is defined is largely a reflection of whichever aspect of Evolution one is trying to justify.

"Race" is the same way, but we see it more clearly. It's an indeterminate term, used as a tool to make a political point. This has always been the case. Is "hispanic" a race? Are hispanics "white"? Are all "hispanics" the "same"? All of this is really just game-playing.

Culture, on the other hand, is very real, and very important. And some cultures are better than others.

Well if race doesn’t exist why do they call us racist when we speak out against Obama’s policies?

Is there a biological basis to say that a Golden Retriever is physically different from a Chihuahua? Or are any perceived differences merely man-made constructs?

Nina Catubig Nolan, chairwoman of the museum's Race education team, said, "The idea of race doesn't have a basis in biology. Humans from around the world share 99.5 percent of their genes. That's more than

So genetics (biology) has no bearing on racial distinctions? Perhaps we are purely mathematical abstractions with statistical possibilities of what we become? I still remember the TV programs of the 1950's where they could use the word halfbreed to distinguish a mixed race person. Now race is becoming a derogatory word?

Pretty soon we will be rendered to a single word to explain everything, George Carlin's $h!t.

It has nothing to do with liberals.

Race doesn't exist. At least not in any way that isn't soaked with politics. There is no definition of race which will fit every usage and attempts to define race have changed drastically over time. In fact, it's hard to get people to agree on how many "races" there are.

Attempting to define people by race is dangerous and hurts the individual and society.

Culture, on the other hand, is more readily definable and thus is much more useful.

You wrote: race doesn't exist, according to Liberals). Do you believe that people should be treated differently based on solely perceived racial differences?

I believe that people should be treated based on their individual merits and not on their inclusion in an artificial, ever-changing construct.

Not this again.

I guess we can quit worrying about sickle-cell anemia now.

I suggest folks here who think race is irrelevant try living somewhere outside whitelandia or an homogeneous environment

and just observe

there are precise physical and cultural grouping and overlaps on the edges

folks who think race is irrelevant are naive

and btw...case you ain't noticed race is very relevant to paternalistic white liberals and socially moderate conservatives who sing kumbaya and think all bad on the black man as well as good flows from the white race

NOW THAT LAST LINE DEFINES RACISM to me..like poor little pet black folks are so dependent on the white folks to be good to them

and those goofballs who spout these platitudes are blissfully unaware of their own bigotry at the same time they decry a realistic and empirical interpretation of race based difference or similarities
