DES MOINES, WA -- In November police officers tased, then shot and killed a 120-pound Newfoundland named Rosie.
The shooting sparked both a community vigil for the dog and an independent review of the officers' actions.
Although initiall reports were that the dog was acting aggressively when she escaped from her fenced yard and was spotted roaming neighborhood streets, video taken from the patrol car dash-cams may cast the shooting in a different light.
Warning: Videos contain graphic sounds and language.
The videos, released by Des Moines Police show the dog being tazed by an officer, then running away. In another video you hear an officer fire his gun, presumably hitting the dog, then another officer saying "Nice".

Rosie was black.
Therefore the cops are racist too.

Let's see halfa** pet owner fails to keep large dog on property and its the cops fault, guess if someone had run over it it would have been the drivers fault. Take a little personal responsibility pet owners.

But does a dog simply running loose deserve to be killed?

...reviewing their procedures so an incident like Rosies death does not happen again. That's as much as admitting the shooting was unnecessary.

If it is allowed to do so. Keep your pets on your property. End of problem. And spay and neuter them. Tax payers are tired of cleaning up for pet owners. We are forced to kill hundreds of thousands of animals each year because of pet owners.

BTW. When did they move Des Moines to Washington? Anyone know?

In another video you hear an officer fire his gun, presumably hitting the dog, then another officer saying “Nice”.
Which provides proof (as if any were really needed) that killing dogs has become part of the cop “culture” these days.
It doesn’t matter what line of work you happen to be in - when coworker B sees coworker A perform some job related function and immediately says “nice” - that can only mean that said action was part of the “corporate culture”.
If I helped a customer or straightened out a messed up situation at my job, one of my coworkers might say “nice”.
If I acted way out of line with company policy - not so much.
This is something that anybody who has been in the workforce can relate to, no matter in what job capacity.
Show me where I’m wrong in my reasoning here.

From a related article:Rosie got out of her yard last Sunday and started roaming the streets. Officers chased, tazered and tried to grab Rosie. But couldn't catch her.
Rosie made it to a neighbors yard and hid in the bushes.
When police arrive they say she showed her fangs and growled at them. That's when they shot and killed her.
So the dog somehow got loose...it happens occasionally...the dog runs away from the cops...hides in a neighbors yard, and when cornered by the cops growls and bares fangs (note--did not attack the cops...and we only have their words that the dog displayed aggression)....
Ok...I agree...the cops had to kill the dog to save it.
BTW....where was animal control, and why didn't the cops wait????

I don’t even need to see the video! I have owned Newfies, they are huge and hairy and drool, they are the LEAST aggressive of ALL breeds!

The standard line from the pet owner is it got out, bet on the fact it got out everyday and that is why the cops was called.
To: org.whodat
Noone is “forced” to kill dogs. People make choices. They are not merely the victims of circumstance (despite what liberals would have you believe).
The cops could have waited for animal control to pick up the dog. This dog was running away, trying to avoid these cops. There was no reason to put down the dog.

Anyone, and I do mean anyone, who harms one of my family’s pets is a dead person walking. The only question is when, where, and how.
