DES MOINES, WA -- In November police officers tased, then shot and killed a 120-pound Newfoundland named Rosie.
The shooting sparked both a community vigil for the dog and an independent review of the officers' actions.
Although initiall reports were that the dog was acting aggressively when she escaped from her fenced yard and was spotted roaming neighborhood streets, video taken from the patrol car dash-cams may cast the shooting in a different light.
Warning: Videos contain graphic sounds and language.
The videos, released by Des Moines Police show the dog being tazed by an officer, then running away. In another video you hear an officer fire his gun, presumably hitting the dog, then another officer saying "Nice".

Yes, as long as our dogs never manage to get out, we won't have to worry about cops gunning them down with M-4s. It's the owner's fault - the retard who used a war weapon to kill a dog hiding in the bushes is blameless.
You ate paint chips for snacks as a child, didn't you.
Lalala, the facts are the facts people with pets refuse to take care of them. And if you can see where I defended the cops post it. I said responsible pet owners would have their pets on their property.
Where I live, the game wardens kill any loose dog they find. On the spot. Then they deliver the dogs body to the owner if the dog has tags, and they also fine the owner. Dogs hary and kill wild life after they get into a group of two or more. I agree with the policy. Round here in Vermont, people control their dogs or they do not have them long.It is a crime for non LEOs to kill a dog also.
FU-Washington cops.
“None of which would have happened if the dog had been in its fenced yard.”
Not True....There was a case recently where a dog owner had an invisible fence and the cops shot it dead. We live in a police state now and it will only get worse.
Every LEO should be required to take training in animal behavior. This shoot-the-dog horseshit needs to stop.
“None of which would have happened if the dog had been in its fenced in yard.”
The most polite thing I can bring myself to say to the likes of you is that you have quite a callous disregard towards life and the feelings of others. The dog was not feral, it was a pet with a family that loved it. So it got out of it’s yard, (even a dumbass knows that accidents happen and shouldn’t warrant a death sentence). The dog was not bothering anyone until officer friendly began to harrass it. If the cops couldn’t handle it themselves they should have called animal control, but then officer trigger happy wouldn’t have a chance to FINALLY kill something. It’s cops with attitudes like yours that turn former police supporters into opponents.
Anyone that intentionally kills my family members, including my dog, will end up like Jimmy Hoffa.
“Lalala, the facts are the facts people with pets refuse to take care of them.”
You seem to have difficulty distinguishing between “fact” and “opinion”.
A fact is independently verifiable and can be backed up with evidence. An opinion is a statement of belief. You have provided the latter.
The pet owners in question were not at home. That is a fact. Refusal to take care of the dog in question is your opinion, and an unsubstantiated one.
What the heck are you talking about?
I visited a home that had a Newfie and the darned thing tried to sit in my lap (really, it thought it was a lap dog). Darned near broke my leg! Now that is dangerous. :-)
You can see this just by watching the early seasons of COPS and watching it now.
Totally different demeanor, aggressiveness when interacting even with bystanders, lack of patience, and quickness to use force in the new generation. It's shocking the change and it's all on tape.
No the facts are they refused to provide an escape proof pen and an adequate fence. Period. They sell both at tractor supply.
It’s good to have confirmed that there were cops in Georgia who lacked the common sense to call animal control back then as well.
Dog running around loose? Animal control problem. Not a police problem.
It appears you are fighting a losing battle, evidently a dogs life has become equal to a human. Most repeated sentence after a dog attack is”I can’t believe it, he has never been aggressive to me”!!!
Another faulty assumption. For me, the question remains, How did the dog get out? Was it let out by a punk kid, a mailman not locking the gate, digging under the fence, etc.? What? How? We simply don't know.
To state it's a "fact" that this owner "refused" to take care of the dog is a faulty assumption. We don't have all the facts regarding how the dog came to be loose in the neighborhood.
But let's take your "argument" a little further.
So, under your definition, if I kept my dog in our yard, behind a fence and someone lets it out and it's ultimately shot by the police because it became agitated after being chased and tased for over an hour, I'm an "irresponsible" pet owner?
Sorry, no sale.
No, he was not! The stupid SOB was using an M-4 and firing into the dog's center of mass. The heart is lower and to the front of the chest.
Even then the most humane thing at that point would be a shot to the brain. The cop was either a total cretin or was deliberately making it suffer. At that close range he should have used his side arm and placed a round in the brain.
Provide proof of the owners “refusal to provide an escape proof pen and an adequate fence” from a resource other than your own imagination.
